1 Vintage Birthday Ensemble Designed By: Carrie Rhoades May 2012 Vintage and paper crafting are a hot combination right now, so why not incorporate that in to a birthday celebration? This ensemble is a great start for a special girl s birthday. The birthday crown would make any little girl feel special on her big day. There is also a memories book; the pages fold out, so each party guest can write a special note to the birthday girl. Save a spot in the book to insert a few party pictures as well. And, no birthday party is complete with out party favors. A pinwheel sets this party favor bag apart and would entice anyone to take a peek at the goodies inside. These handmade vintage birthday pieces will give any birthday party that extra special feel that all birthday girls deserve. Birthday Crown Instructions Step 1 Cut two 2-1/2 x 11 pieces of Very Vanilla card stock. Rub all the edges with the solid stamp that has been inked with the Tea Stain stamp pad from the Distressing Essentials Kit. Repeat with the second strip of Very Vanilla card stock. This technique will be used on every piece on these three projects, as this really gives paper a vintage look.

2 Step 1 Step 2 Using two 1 x 11 strips of Very Vanilla card stock, die cut two rick-rack strips with the Tasteful Trim die. Use the negative pieces for the crown. Distress these as in Step 1 with Tea Stain ink. Adhere these to the crown pieces lining them up about 1/8 from the top and bottom of the crown, so that the zigzag edge is facing the edge of the crown. Step 2 Step 3 Cut two 2 x 11 strips of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and rub the edges with the Tea Stain ink using the solid stamp to apply. Adhere these to the crown, centering it so that the zigzag edge shows. Adhere the two strips together using Sticky Strip.

3 Step 3 Step 4 Die cut six of the smallest labels from the Labels Collection Framelits set in Very Vanilla card stock that is 3 x 2. Cut each of the labels in half horizontally. Rub each piece with the Tea Stain ink, using the solid stamp to apply. Adhere these to the back of the crown, with about 1/16 in between. This will leave a little bit of space at the end. Step 4 Step 5 Apply a large half pearl from the Basic Pearl Jewels to each label. Run a long line of SNAIL adhesive down the center of the entire length of the crown, adhere a piece of Pool Party ½ seam binding ribbon that is approximately 22 long to the adhesive. Trim ends of ribbon as necessary.

4 Step 5 Step 6 Apply a piece of Sticky Strip to the back of one end of the crown and the front side of the other end of the crown. Before adhering the crown into a circle you will want to measure the head of the person who will wear the crown and size it accordingly. Step 6 Step 7 To make the rosettes for the crown you will need six 1 x 11 strips of paper, for this crown cut two of each of the following colors of card stock, Pool Party, Pink Pirouette, and River Rock. Score each strip every ¼ of an inch. Accordion fold the strip, cutting off the very last segment.

5 Step 7 Step 8 Apply some Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the last segment of the strip and adhere so that a peak fits down into a valley. Step 8 Step 9 Punch a matching circle of card stock using a 1 Circle punch. Put a pea size dollop of hot glue in the center of the circle. Press the accordion circle flat into the hot glue, holding in while the hot glue dries, about thirty seconds. Repeat this with all six strips of card stock, so that you have six rosettes. Rub each rosette with Tea Stain in and the solid rubber stamp.

6 Step 9 Step 10 To make the flower that covers up the center of the rosette, punch the Boho Blossoms punch in First Edition Specialty DSP. Scrunch up each flower and stack them from largest to smallest. Pierce a hole through the center of the flowers and insert a large Clear Rhinestone brad. Rub Tea Stain ink on the flowers petals with the solid rubber stamp. Hot glue the flower to the center of the rosette. Repeat this so that each rosette has a flower in the center. Step 10 Step 11 Hot glue the finished rosettes to the crown about 1-1/2 apart, alternating colors.

7 Step 11 Step 12 To make the paper roses, punch out a circle from Rose Red card stock using the 2-1/2 Circle punch. Scrunch up the circle and press it flat again, using your Bone Folder to make it smooth. Cut around the edge of the circle so that it is a little bumpy instead of a perfect circle. Cut the circle into a spiral. Step 12 Step 13 Starting from the outside begin rolling up the rose, rolling it tightly. Once it is all rolled up, let it go so that the rose can loosen up. Turn the rose over and add a dot of hot glue, press the paper down and hold until hot glue cools. Repeat this step making a total of six roses. Hot glue the complete roses in between the rosettes. When the hot glue is cooled, spritz the entire crown with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz and Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. Allow the crown to dry before touching.

9 Memory Book Instructions Step 1 Cut a 4 x 6 piece of the thin white chipboard that comes in every pack of DSP and score at 3. Step 1 Step 2 Cut a 4 x 6 piece of First Edition Specialty DSP and score at 3. Adhere DSP to chipboard using an Anywhere Glue Stick. Rub the edges of the book cover with Tea Stain ink using the solid stamp. Step 2 Step 3 Die cut a Paper Doily using the Paper Doily Large Sizzlits die from a 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 piece of Pool Party card stock. Cut off the outer ring, creating a smaller doily. Rub this with the Tea Stain ink and solid stamp as well. Set aside.

10 Step 3 Step 4 Punch out four scallop circles in First Edition Specialty DSP using the 1-3/4 Scallop Circle punch. Scrunch each circle and fold them into fourths. Punch out a 1 circle and add a pea size puddle of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the center. Adhere one triangle to the circle so that the point of the triangle is in the center of the circle. Glue on the next triangle so that the fold is next to the fold of the first triangle. When gluing on the third triangle, glue it so that the open edge of the triangle is next to the open end of the last triangle. When all triangles are in place, rub edges with Tea Stain ink. Scrunch up the edges of the flower. Step 4 Step 5 Make a Pink Pirouette rose as in Steps 12 and 13 in the instructions for making the crown. Rub Tea Stain ink on the edges of the rose with the solid stamp. Adhere the First Edition flower from Step 4 to the center of doily with Multipurpose Liquid Glue and then the rose to the center of the flower. Adhere the completed doily to the center of the book cover, also using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Trim off any of the doily that hangs off the edge of the book.

11 Step 5 Step 6 Stamp the no.147 image from the Nature Walk stamp set on the bottom right corner of the book cover in River Rock ink. Cut a 1/2 x 3 strip of River Rock card stock and stamp memories from the Loving Thoughts stamp set in Rose Red ink. Snip ends of the card stock into a pennant. Rub edges with Tea Stain ink. Curl the ends of the pennant with a Bone Folder and mount to the cover using Stampin Dimensionals. Step 6 Step 7 Cut a 3-3/4 x 11 piece of Very Vanilla card stock and score at 2-3/4, 5-1/2, and 8-1/4. Rub all edges and folds, front and back with Tea Stain ink. Run a very small line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue down the inside score line of the book cover, lay the card stock in the book and press gently to adhere. Use a ruler to mark the center of the pages that are inside the book at ½ and 3-1/4. Tie book and pages together with 10 of Pool Party Baker s Twine. Rub twine with Tea Stain ink. Fold the book pages so that the last two pages fold into the book.

12 Step 7 Step 7 Party Favor Bag Instructions Step 1 Die cut the bag using the Fancy Favor Bigz XL die and Pool Party card stock that measures 6 x 12. Rub the edges with the Tea Stain ink applying it with the solid stamp. Adhere box using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Rub a strip of First Edition Specialty DSP that measures 2-3/4 x 12 with the solid stamp inked with Tea Stain ink. Adhere the strip of DSP to the bag using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Fold in the bag on the score lines and add more Tea Stain ink to the edges of the bag.

13 Step 1 Step 2 For the pinwheel, cut a 2 x 2 piece of Pink Pirouette card stock. Punch out a 3/4 circle and glue it to the middle of the square with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Rub Tea Stain ink around the edge of the pinwheel, front and back. Cut each corner to the circle. Fold the corners in toward the center, attach a Mini Glue Dot to the end of each point and stick it down in the center of the circle. Step 2 Step 2

14 Step 3 Make a scrunched flower from the Boho Blossom punch in Rose Red card stock as you did in Step 10 when making the crown. Hot glue this to the center of the pinwheel. Step 3 Step 4 Cut a lollipop stick to 1-3/4 and rub it with Tea Stain ink. Stamp thanks so much from the Tiny Tags stamp set in Rose Red ink on River Rock card stock. Punch this out using the Jewelry Tag punch and rub the edges with Tea Stain ink. Pierce a hole in the end of the tag using the Paper-Piercing Tool and tie to the lollipop stick with Pool Party Baker s Twine. Glue the stick to the bag using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Stamp the bee from the Nature walk stamp set in the lower right hand corner of the bag using River Rock ink. Step 4 Step 5 Stack Stampin Dimensionals two high on the back of the pinwheel and then adhere the pinwheel to the bag. Having two Stampin Dimensionals will help the pinwheel stick out higher than the lollipop stick. Stamp the butterfly from the Nature Walk stamp set on the corner of a 6 x 6 piece of white tissue paper and insert it into your party favor bag.
