1 Winter Lantern Designed By: Amanda Corbet January 2012 Do you know someone who loves snowflakes? Or just needs a little something to light up their day? This pretty winter lantern will add some sparkle to any winter décor. The embossed snowflakes on the lantern panes give a beautiful silhouette when a battery powered candle is lit inside. The sparkling silvery snowflakes decorate the lantern to truly give it a wintry feel. Instructions Step 1 Cut three 5-1/4 x 6 pieces of Brushed Silver card stock. Run each piece through the Big Shot on the Petal Cone die with the Premium Crease pad.

Step 2 Cut a 1-3/4 x 3-5/8 piece of thin card board.

2 Step 2 Cut a 1-3/4 x 3-5/8 piece of thin card board. Using a ruler and a pencil (I used a marker here just so you can see the marks in the photos) mark the center of the 1-3/4 side at 7/8 (Step 2a). Line the mark in the center up with the point on the corner of the card board in the cutting groove of the paper cutter (Step 2b). Repeat cut on the other side to create a triangle. This will be your template. Step 2a Step 2b Step 3 Place triangle template onto the backside of a panel on your first petal cone. Trace around the template with a pencil (Step 3a). Repeat on all of the panels of the three petal cones. Use a ruler and a craft knife to cut along the pencil lines (Step 3b). Repeat on all of the panels of the three petal cones to create your windows. Step 3a Step 3b

Cut the tab of the first petal cone with your ruler and craft knife. This will prevent the tab from showing on the backside of your window once you have adhered all the petal cones together.

3 Step 4 Place one petal cone shape on top of the tab of another petal cone shape as though you were adhering the two together. See the card stock that extends inside your window of the petal cone on the right? Use your pencil to trace along the side of the window (Step 4). Cut the tab of the first petal cone with your ruler and craft knife. This will prevent the tab from showing on the backside of your window once you have adhered all the petal cones together. Step 4 Step 5 Stamp the snowflakes from Serene Snowflakes all over one full 8-1/2 x 11 piece of Vellum card stock in VersaMark ink. Pour Pewter embossing powder over the stamped images and tap off the excess powder. Heat your images with the Heat Tool until the snowflakes are shiny (Step 5). Repeat this on a second sheet of Vellum card stock. Step 5

4 Step 6 Using only one sheet of the snowflake embossed Vellum cut six 2-5/8 x 4-1/2 pieces. With the 8-1/2 side of your Vellum against the top ruler of your Paper Cutter, cut at 4-1/2 first. Then cut four pieces 2-5/8 wide from the larger piece. Then cut the remaining two pieces from the long scrap left over from the first cut. Step 7 Using a ruler and a pencil mark the 2-5/8 end of the Vellum at 1-5/16 (Step 7a). Repeat this on the remaining five pieces of Vellum. Line up the right mark on the end with the right corner in the cutting groove of your Paper Cutter (Step 7b). Repeat this cut on the other side to get a triangle (Step 7c). Repeat this on the remaining five pieces of Vellum. Step 7a Step 7b Step 7c Step 8 Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue apply glue around your window onto the backside of your first petal cone piece (Step 8a). Adhere a Vellum triangle over each window with the embossing side down (Step 8b). Step 8a Step 8b

Step 9 Cut six 1-3/4 x 3-1/4 pieces of Silver Glimmer paper. Run each piece through the Big Shot on the Petal Cone die to cut out the scalloped half circle.

Remove the liner from the Sticky Strip and apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue in the middle section (Step 9c).

You will have to press down on each piece for about thirty seconds to get the glue to adhere to the Glimmer paper and the card stock.

5 Step 9 Cut six 1-3/4 x 3-1/4 pieces of Silver Glimmer paper. Run each piece through the Big Shot on the Petal Cone die to cut out the scalloped half circle. Cut off the first scallop near the straight edge on both sides using Paper Snips (Step 9a). Place a piece of Sticky Strip near the straight edge (Step 9b). Remove the liner from the Sticky Strip and apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue in the middle section (Step 9c). Adhere to the backside of the petal on your first petal cone piece. Repeat with the remaining five scalloped half circles. You will have to press down on each piece for about thirty seconds to get the glue to adhere to the Glimmer paper and the card stock. Step 9a Step 9b Step 9c Step 10 After the Glimmer paper has been adhered to all three of your petal cone pieces, stack the three up one on top of the other and place something heavy on top to press the card stock down onto the Glimmer paper. Leave the heavy object on the card stock for about five minutes so the glue has a chance to dry completely. Step 11 Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the tab of the first petal cone shape (Step 11). Adhere one petal cone onto a second petal cone. Repeat with the final petal cone. Now you have all three of your petal cones joined together. Step 11

Step 13 Step 14 Cut an 18 long piece of Whisper White 5/8 organza ribbon. Cut both ends into a sharp point using Paper Snips. Thread the ribbon ends through the hole at the top of your cone.

6 Step 12 Use the Circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack to punch a half circle out of the points of the petal cones (Step 12). Step 12 Step 13 Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the final tab of the petal cone and adhere the tab to the backside of the first petal cone. This will create a cone shape (Step 13). Step 13 Step 14 Cut an 18 long piece of Whisper White 5/8 organza ribbon. Cut both ends into a sharp point using Paper Snips. Thread the ribbon ends through the hole at the top of your cone. Tie a tight knot in the ribbon ends. Pull the ribbon up from the outside of your cone so the knot of the ribbon is against the inside top of the cone (Step 14). This creates a loop that you can hang your lantern with. Set aside your lantern top.

Step 15 Step 16 With the 1/4 score at the top, line up your ruler with the bottom score line. With your pencil mark the card stock at 3/8 from both sides (Step 16a).

7 Step 14 Step 15 Cut six 2-3/4 x 7-1/4 pieces of Brushed Silver card stock. With the 7-1/4 side against the top of your Simply Scored scoring tool, score at 1/4 and 5-3/4 (Step 15). Step 15 Step 16 With the 1/4 score at the top, line up your ruler with the bottom score line. With your pencil mark the card stock at 3/8 from both sides (Step 16a). Line up the pencil mark on the right side with the right side corner of the card stock in the groove of your paper cutter and cut (Step 16b). Then take your card stock to your Simply Scored. Line up the pencil mark on the left side with the left side corner of the card stock in a groove on your Simply Scored and score (Step 16c).

Line up the right side mark with the right side corner in the groove of your Paper Cutter and cut (Step 17b). Repeat with other side to create your template. Step 17a Step 17b

Repeat with the remaining five pieces of Vellum. Step 20a Step 20b Step 20c Step 21 Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the window in the Brushed Silver card stock pieces (Step 21a). Adhere the tapered Vellum rectangle on top of the card stock with the embossed side down (Step 21b). Repeat with the remaining five side pieces and Vellum. Step 21a Step 21b

Adhere a second side piece onto the first by overlapping the tab with the adhesive (Step 22b).

11 Step 22 After the glue has dried flip over your side piece and apply Sticky Strip to the top tab (Step 22a). Repeat on the remaining five side pieces. Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the tab of the side piece (Step 22a). Adhere a second side piece onto the first by overlapping the tab with the adhesive (Step 22b). Repeat with the remaining five side pieces until you have all six glued together (Step 22c). Step 22a Step 22b Step 22c Step 23 Flip over the joined side pieces and apply Sticky Strip onto the bottom flaps as shown in (Step 23).

Step 23 Step 24 Remove the liner from the top flap of just one of the side sections. Line it up with the fold of the petal on the lantern top and adhere the tab onto the inside of the top.

Using Paper Snips cut off the top flap and the side tab of the last panel (Step 24b). This will be the door to the lantern.

Adhere one Brushed Silver circle onto the thin card board circle using an Anywhere Glue Stick.

12 Step 23 Step 24 Remove the liner from the top flap of just one of the side sections. Line it up with the fold of the petal on the lantern top and adhere the tab onto the inside of the top. Continue adhering the top flap of the side one section at a time around the top of the lantern until you get to the last side section (Step 24a). Using Paper Snips cut off the top flap and the side tab of the last panel (Step 24b). This will be the door to the lantern. Step 24a Step 24b Step 25 Use the 2-1/2 Circle punch and punch one circle from thin card board and two circles from Brushed Silver card stock. Adhere one Brushed Silver circle onto the thin card board circle using an Anywhere Glue Stick. This will be placed on the inside of the lantern to give a solid base for your battery powered candle to sit on. Step 26 Fold all of the bottom flaps in except for one. Remove the liner from the last flap. Place the circle card board side up and centered on the bottom of the box and adhere down the last flap (Step 26a). Now open up the end of the box and start adhering down the flaps one at a time trying to keep the bottom of the lantern as symmetrical as possible (Step 26b and Step 26c).

Now you have one bottom flap that is loose on the end. Hold it up and add some Multipurpose Liquid Glue underneath the flap (Step 27). Then press the flap down in place. Step 27 Step 28 Apply several pieces of Sticky Strip onto one side of the remaining 2-1/2 Brushed Silver circle (Step 28a). Remove the liner from the Sticky Strip and adhere the circle onto the bottom of the lantern (Step 28b). Step 28a Step 28b

Step 29 Cut a 1/2 x 5-3/8 piece of Brushed Silver card stock. Place the 1/2 side at the top of your Simply Scored scoring tool and score at 1/4. Fold on the score line.

Step 29 Step 30 Using the Northern Frost strip die and Silver Glimmer paper cut out four of the smallest snowflakes, six medium size snowflakes, and one large snowflake.

14 Step 29 Cut a 1/2 x 5-3/8 piece of Brushed Silver card stock. Place the 1/2 side at the top of your Simply Scored scoring tool and score at 1/4. Fold on the score line. Apply Sticky Strip onto the card stock and adhere it inside the lantern on the hinge side of the door (Step 29). This will just give the hinge of the door some added strength. Step 29 Step 30 Using the Northern Frost strip die and Silver Glimmer paper cut out four of the smallest snowflakes, six medium size snowflakes, and one large snowflake. Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack to pierce a hole in the center of three of the smallest snowflakes. Use a pencil to mark on the window frame of the side next to the door in three places. Use the 1/16 Handheld Circle punch to punch out all three holes. Insert a Silver brad into the center of one of the snowflakes, then insert the brad through one of the holes in the side of the window, and spread the prongs. Repeat with the remaining two small snowflakes. Step 30

Step 31 Using a pencil mark the window side of the door next to the snowflakes. You will want to make three marks in line with the brads on the snowflakes.

Place the 5/8 end at the top of your Simply Scored scoring tool and score at 1/4. Apply Sticky Strip onto the wider side of the card stock strip.

15 Step 31 Using a pencil mark the window side of the door next to the snowflakes. You will want to make three marks in line with the brads on the snowflakes. Punch a hole at each of the marks with the 1/16 Handheld Circle punch. Step 32 Cut a 5/8 x 5-3/8 piece of Brushed Silver card stock. Place the 5/8 end at the top of your Simply Scored scoring tool and score at 1/4. Apply Sticky Strip onto the wider side of the card stock strip. Remove the Sticky Strip liner and adhere this behind the open edge of the door making sure to line up the edge of the door with the fold on the card stock (Step 32a). Use a Paper-Piercing Tool to carefully pierce the hole through the back layer of card stock where the three punched holes are located. Insert a Silver brad into each of the holes and spread the prongs on the backside of the door. (Step 32b). This little flap will be slid behind the snowflakes to keep the door closed. Step 32a Step 32b Step 33 Use the Circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack on a scrap of Brushed Silver card stock. Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack to pierce a hole through the center of the circle. Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the backside of the largest snowflake around the center hole. Adhere the circle over the center hole of the snowflake and allow the glue to dry (Step 33a and Step 33b). Insert a Silver Glimmer brad through the center hole in the front of the snowflake and adhere the large snowflake onto the top of the lantern with two Mini Glue Dots.
