2 Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make a lovely filigree effect icicle card. A new style card and made using A4 card so it makes it easier to make in different colourways. For this you`ll need the Sue Wilson Caribbean Island collection ~ St Barts die, the Sue Wilson Gemini Delphinus die & the Creative Expressions stamps to die for... Floral filigree stamp along with some foundations A4 coconut card, vellum & acetate. Step 2. Take 2 pieces of the Foundations coconut A4 card and have it in a landscape position. Place the Sue Wilson Gemini Delphinus die with the cut side of the die facing down into the bottom left hand corner & along the bottom edge of the card. Make a pencil mark where the end of the die falls on the right hand side on the card. Step 3. Lift the die up. Cut the 2 pieces of card at the measurement that was just marked out. Secure the cut edge die from the Sue Wilson Gemini Delphinus die set using some low tack tape along the bottom edge of the card.

3 Step 4. Now take the co-ordinating cut edge border die & place it next to the die before securing in place with some low tack tape. IT`S IMPORTANT to make sure the die isn`t touching each other as they will cut into each other if overlapping when passed through your die cutting machine. Once you have the dies in place run the piece through the Grand Calibur. Step 5. After it`s been cut then emboss the piece. Repeat this process with the 2 nd piece of matching card you cut earlier. Make sure you cut the card in the same way so the 2 pieces can work together later on. Step 6. Place the 2 pieces of card together before taking a small pair of scissors and snipping the small amount of card to the edge so it releases the waste edge of card.

4 Step 7. Cut 2 more pieces of coconut card measuring the exact same width as the just cut panels but this time they only need be 5 inches high. Step 8. For this top section of the card the other edge option has been used by having the other cut edge and border side to this die set. Secure the 2 dies as you did in the previous step with spacing and low tack tape to secure it all in place. Now cut & emboss the piece through the Grand Calibur. Step 9. Remove the die from the just embossed piece of card and try & keep the low tack tape in place as it will allow you to have an exact cut on the 2 nd panel. So place the die back down on the 2 nd piece of card & cut only this piece.

5 Step 10. Now you have 2 larger cut panels and 2 upper section panels with both sets matching the ones below. Step 11. Trim away the excess card so you are left with 1.5cms space from the lower leaf die cut area. Make sure the cut line is straight as the lower design is different heights. Step 12. Take the large panel & score a 1.5cms line down the right hand side of the card. Repeat this on the 2 nd panel of card.

6 Step 13. Just for detail I have added a score line around the reverse edge of the front panel and followed that with an inner line of scoring as this just gives the effect of more layers to the finished card without using any additional card. Step 14. Add the upper cut border die that matches the top die shape of the border onto the bottom edge of a piece of the Foundations vellum. Cut this through the Grand Calibur machine. Step 15. MAKE SURE THE DIE HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE VELLUM ~ Place the vellum into the Sue Wilson large climbing vines embossing folder and emboss through the Grand Calibur machine using the raspberry plate and the base plate.

7 Step 16. Once cut the edge will sit nicely into the shape of the intricate border giving you a nice soft edge to work with as well as making it a feature of the design. With the vellum in place over the front panel snip where the design falls just on the inside of the scored side embossed lines. Do this on both edges. Step 17. Trim up and remove the excess vellum before repeating the process along the top of the card making sure you keep inside the scored lines. Step 18. Crease both of the 1.5cms scored tops of the panels. Have the front panel folded towards yourself and the back facing backwards.

8 Step 19. Either use some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear PVA glue or use some double side tape to secure the 2 ~ 1.5cms top tabs together. Step 20. Add small dots of the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear PVA glue on the reverse side of the climbing vines embossing panel in the corners and middle of the piece. Step 21. Dab your finger over the glue to flatten it and to make it less visible behind the vellum when added to the card. Once all glue dots are flattened then add the vellum to the worked card front.

9 Step 22. Add 3 lines of embossing on the reverse of the 1.5cm gap in the top panels that was created. Step 23. Add some of the Comic Shimmer dries clear glue to the reverse side of scored panel. Step 24. Attach the panel to the 1.5m tab on the larger card front.

10 Step 25. Take the other top panel and add some more of the glue before attaching to the tab on the back of the card. Please note that the reverse border won`t have any embossing on the back as this die doesn`t have a mirror image. Step 26. Here is the prepared finished basic shape of the card which can be used as is or It can also have the addition of the acetate and Cosmic Shimmer iced snow glitter jewels added for a wonderful effect when the light catches the card. Step 27. Take a piece of the Foundations vellum & swipe it with an anti static bag. Ink up the Creative Expressions stamps to die for... floral filigree stamp using the ink & resist ink pad. Stamp the image onto the vellum & then add the true white Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder over the ink.

11 Step 28. Tip away the excess embossing powder back onto a scrap of paper and then back into the embossing powder pot. Heat set the piece using a heat tool. Make sure you keep the heat tool moving as you are heating over a delicate vellum but the embossing powder will quickly turn so no problems at all for great results. Step 29. Place the outer solid frame from the Sue Wilson Caribbean Island collection ~ St Barts die over the embossed edge of the just stamped image & secure in place with some low tack tape. Cut the stamped shape out by placing it through the Grand Calibur machine. Step 30. To enhance the vellum and give it a solid base then take a piece of card just a bit bigger than the solid Sue Wilson Caribbean Island collection ~ St Barts die. Cut a piece of the self adhesive paper & remove the backing off one side of the adhesive paper & place it down on the back of the white card. Cut the solid die shape with the cut side into the white card & the adhesive sheet behind the white card ~ pass it through the Grand Calibur to cut the solid shape out.

12 Step 31. Remove the backing from the adhesive and add the vellum stamped panel onto the sticky area leaving a very small edge all around the edge. Add some of the distress dry glitter rock candy glitter over the sticky edge as this will just add some detail to the excess card that would normally be exposed. Step 32.. Cut 2 of the Sue Wilson Caribbean Island collection ~ St Barts die outer side edge die and the next size in die to make a fancy cut intricate shape in the foundations coconut card. Step 33. Add one of the die shapes behind the vellum panel using foam tape and in a portrait position.

13 Step 34. Take the 2 nd die shape & cut 2 of the same ends that are showing behind the vellum shape above rather than the longer side shape ~ these will measure 1.5inches in from each end of the die shape. Step 35. Use some more of the foam tape to attach the 2 sides of die shapes to the reverse of the vellum panel. This just makes a lovely frame that now fits the different shape of the stamped image. Step 36. The card can be used with just the card edging and it could have another border cut and stuck behind if you want to strengthen the bottom of the card.

14 Step 37. Alternatively cut 2 pieces of acetate so it fits on the inside of the card and so it finishes just on the edge of the border bottom. Stick a strip of self adhesive sheet to the bottom front of the depth of the border size ( this is important as the glitter jewels will stick onto to this side), in this case the adhesive is 2 inches. Use some red line tape along the top edge of the acetate & attach it to the inside of the front & back panels of the card. Step 38. Remove the backing from the front of the backing sheet. Step 39. and press the intricate detail of the border bottom of the card down onto the sticky sheet. This will make sure none of the glitter jewels will stick under the border.

15 Step 40. Add the Cosmic Shimmer glitter jewels ~ iced snow over the border base & press onto the sticky acetate. Step 41.. Also add a sticky strip on some acetate behind the top border and add the glitter jewels over the sticky areas. Step 42. If like me the sticky sheet was added after the 2 borders were stuck together then add a thin strip of card over the area where the line of tape has been placed as this will cover that area.

16 Step 43. Ink up the flowers on the Floral filigree stamp & press some vellum over the image. Step 44. Repeat this so you get 10 flowers on a small piece of vellum. Add some of the Cosmic Shimmer true white embossing powder and heat set the powder. Step 45. Cut 5 of the flowers out as a full flower and 5 of the smaller inner flowers. Use a small pair of scissors and curve the flower petals over the closed blades. This will give shape to the flower but it will help to keep the whole embossed line on the flower and it will also keep the vellum with a lovely smooth finish. If you used the embossing tool to achieve the dimension you with make the vellum have a white appearance.

17 Step 46. Place the curved flower onto the reverse of a cut`n`dry foam & use an embossing tool in a circular motion in the centre of the flower to bring the petals upwards. Also push the centre of the smaller flower downwards before adding to the larger flower with some 3d gel glue or Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue. Step 47. Add a double bow using the Cosmic Shimmer 2 tone ribbon to the corner of the vellum panel and add one of the flowers to cover the knot of the bow. Step 48. Stamp the `Love You` stamp from a JustRite stamp plate or use another sentiment before cutting the piece out using the inner die from the St Barts die set. Leave the die in place & add some Tim Holtz dusty concord distress ink on a piece of cut`n`dry foam and distress the sentiment as this will leave a white edge to the piece. Add 3 descending faux pearls either side of the sentiment using the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue.

18 Step 49. Add the prepared flowers over the flowers on the vellum panel. Step 50. Add a small amount of the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue to the centres of the vellum flowers. Step 51. Also repeat the process of the PVA pearls by adding them onto the centre of the border panel flowers to finish the design off nicely.

Here is the completed project Something a bit different with the Sue Wilson border dies. This makes a new card design and makes for a useful card shape as it showcases the vellum stamped image.
