Sue Wilson Filigree Poinsettia Card Shopping List:- Sue Wilson Festive Collection Filigree Poinsettia Die & Classic Poinsettia Creative Expressions Merry Christmas Singles Stamp & Wreath Stamp Set Silver Shadow Double Sided Card & Coconut Card Tim Holtz Distress Markers : Forest Moss, Peeled Paint, Fired Brick & Aged Mahogany Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads : Shabby Shutters, Fired Brick, Festive Berries & Worn Lipstick. 2 Step 1. Select the Creative Expressions Sue Wilson Festive Collection Classic Poinsettia die & the Filigree Poinsettia die along with the Creative Expressions Merry Christmas Singles stamp set & some olive green wrinkled edged or crushed ribbon. Step 2. Take a piece of the silver shadow double sided card & swipe it with an anti static bag. Ink up the Merry Christmas stamp using the clear & resist ink pad ( or use Perfect Medium ) and stamp & then add the Cosmic Shimmer silver shine embossing powder over the ink. Heat set the embossing powder to reveal this wonderful detailed Christmas panel. Step 3. Stamp other image using the same embossing powder so that the image can be decoupaged. This will also add some dimension to the piece.

3 Step 4. Cut the stamped image out leaving a small border around the edge of the design. Here the piece has been cut to 4½ x 3¾. Also cut the other image out in sections around the edge of each piece, this being the `Merry`, the small poinsettia image and if you want cut another poinsettia out and cut it out using the inner embossed line as a guide. Step 5. As the poinsettia area is going to be covered over then use the bottom space to decide which colouring medium you want to use. Here the Cosmic Shimmer lava red watercolour has been used along with the holly green watercolour. Step 6 If not why not use the Tim Holtz distress ink markers to colour in directly onto the card itself. As you are using a shimmer card the ink will lay nicely on the surface.

4 Step 7. Depending on the colours you have in the distress markers stash you may not have a couple of colours so you can mix and match the inks by making up your own ink station. Using different tones of red ink will help shade the poinsettia, so here festive berries, fired brick & worn lipstick have been added to a cello pack with a piece of white card inserted inside. Write the initials next to the ink so that you won`t get them mixed up when using the inks. Colour the poinsettia images in using the distress inks. Step 8. To bring some of the Christmas tones into the project as well as some texture I have taken a piece of white card slightly larger than the Merry Christmas topper & swiped the Tim Holtz Shabby Shutters or Peeled Paint distress ink pad directly over the edges only on the card. Also make an even larger piece of white card to mat underneath the green but this time use the festive berries ink pad to colour the edges. Step 9. Also make a slightly larger mat using the same green ink to go under the `Merry` section on the topper piece. Use some foam pads to add the pieces onto the topper piece & again when adding the green mat underneath.

5 Step 10. Now add the red prepared panel using foam pads to complete the topper layering. Step 11. Pick out the leaves & berries on the topper & colour in using the distress inks. Cut the poinsettia flower out of the off cut that was embossed when making the decoupaged piece. Colour the flower in & use some 3D glue to raise the flower up and give it some dimension. Step 12. Cut & emboss using the classic poinsettia & the filigree poinsettia dies. Here the 240gsm foundations coconut card has been used. Place the filigree dies close the edges on the Grand Calibur base platform when cutting them out as that is where the added pressure is, sometimes you may need to cut the dies out using an extra pass through die cutting machine as the filigree design is intricate but as you can see this card cut perfectly & this was achieved using just 2 passes as I always wind the boards through the machine & back so I get the

6 Step 13. Carefully take the filigree poinsettia flowers out of the die & use the Spellbinders all in one tool to remove the excess pieces easily from the dies. For this project you will need 2 larger filigree flowers, 3 medium filigree & 3 small filigree. Also needed is 2 classic poinsettia shapes & 1 medium classic shape. This will make the 3 flowers needed for this project. Add some of the fired brick distress ink onto the filigree flowers leaving some of the white showing on the card. Step 14. Here are the coloured poinsettia flowers & now use the shabby shutters ink to distress the white areas of the flower. This will give a life like effect to the flowers Step 15. Distress the solid classic shapes using the Shabby Shutters distress ink & then go in and curve some of the leaves using the closed blades of a pair of scissors.

7 Step 16. Place the green poinsettia leaf onto the reverse side of a piece of foam pad & gently move a ball tool in a circular motion around the centre of the leaf. This will bring up the leaves & give a lovely lift to the base leaves. Repeat on the other 2 green solid leaves. Step 17. Add some 3D glue into the centre of the green solid leaf shape & add the largest filigree flower over the glue. Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue could also be used if you wanted less lift on the centres of the flower, this means you would just have to lift & curve the petals up further to achieve the dimension. Step 18. Repeat the process and make the 2 nd flower up. For the smaller flower bend the petals in half so that 2 of the petals remain on the surface & then glue the other petals onto the green base leaves. This will allow the smaller flower to be tucked into the larger flowers when it is assembled on the card.

8 Step 19. To make the silver base card then just score a piece of the silver shadow card stock at 3 in from the left hand side. Attach another piece of the card under the flap & cut the excess off to make an 8 x 8 card. Step 20. Take another piece of the silver shadow card & cut it to 7 x 7. Use the poinsettia stamp from the Creative Expressions wreath stamp set & stamp at random over the edges & around the inner circle of the card using the clear & resist ink pad. Use the Cosmic Shimmer silver shine embossing powder to cover the clear ink & then heat set the piece. Cut a piece of silver mirri card slightly larger than this piece to mat it on. Step 21. Add some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue over the poinsettia panel & add the silver mirri or alternatively add some double sided tape to the edges of the panel & turn back 2cms of the tape to form a tab effect.

9 Step 22. Place the panel onto the silver mirri making sure the piece has a border which is the same width all around the edge. If it isn`t then just lift the panel and adjust before pulling the tabs off the tape & securing the piece in place. Step 23. Add some of the olive ribbon over the left hand side of the card and along the top side of the panel. Secure the ribbon on the reverse of the card leaving a little slack in the ribbon. Place a thread or in this case an off cut wire from a flower embellishment ( always save them as they are so useful for this technique) and pass it under the cross over piece of the ribbon. Step 24. Now pull the wire up gathering the ribbon as you go & twist the wire to secure the ribbon in place.

10 Step 25. Add some foam tape around the edges of the reverse of the card. Being a fine ribbon then there will be no bulky areas & the foam will sit nicely over it. Step 26. Add the piece to the prepared base card before adding the 3 poinsettia flowers to the corner of the card. Make a bow using the same ribbon & then add a smaller bow to cover the knot of the ribbon. Step 27. Here you can see the dimension & tones on the filigree flowers.

11 Step 29. Once the glue has dried it will give a lovely finish to the poinsettia as well as drawing the green tones throughout the project. Step 30. Here the bow has a small ribbon added to the knot of the bow or you can use one of the many Creative Expressions embellishments to cover the knot. Step 31. So there are lots of silver tones running throughout the project, this has allowed the lovely red & green shades to shine through. For a richer feel why not use the antique vintage gold card along with some bright gold embossing powder.

It also takes a lot of the worry when making an 8 x 8 card as it`s a great size stamp & there is so much detail in the stamp design.
