1 33 Day 4 Hello Cards by Jennifer McGuire Card sizes: 4¼" x 5½" and 4¼" x 4¼" Hello Card (Clear): 1. Die cut a berry sprig from White cardstock using the Berry Sprig die. Color the sprig die cut using Copic markers. 2. Die cut flowers from White cardstock using the Floral Delights die. Color the flower die cuts using Copic markers. 3. Place the flower die cuts onto a foam mat or mouse pad. Press a roller-ball stylus into the center of the first flower, and roll the stylus around. The flower petals will pop up. Repeat for each flower. 4. Trace a 4¼" x 5½" piece of scrap cardstock onto a thick transparency or acetate sheet using a permanent marker, such as a Sharpie. 5. Cut a 2" x 5½" White cardstock strip, and place in the center of the acetate sheet as a guide as you position the dies to create your stencil. Position the Winterberry Sprig die in the upper corner of the acetate sheet, and secure using washi or painter s tape. Die cut the Winterberry Sprig from the acetate sheet. Repeat for each Winterberry Sprig you want on the acetate sheet to create your stencil. 6. Position the finished stencil on a transparent notecard, and secure using washi or painter s tape. 7. Dab Cotton White StazOn ink over the stencil using a sponge dauber. Remove the stencil, and allow the ink to dry complete.

2 34 8. Position the stencil inside the card, and repeat Step 7 to add designs inside the card for a dimensional effect. Allow the ink to dry completely. 9. Clean the stencil using an alcohol wipe. 10. Adhere the White cardstock strip to the card. 11. Die cut Hello from glitter paper, and adhere to the card using Glossy Accents. 12. Adhere the sprig die cut to the card using Glossy Accents, tucking the bottom of the sprig through the o in Hello. 13. Adhere the flower die cuts to the card using Glossy Accents. 14. Adhere a second strip of White cardstock behind the first strip, on the back of the card front to hide the adhesive on the card front. 15. Adhere two additional cardstock strips inside the card and on the back of the card, lined up directly behind the first piece. This will give you a place to write your message on the transparent card, and hide the adhesive on the back of that piece. Hello Card (White): 1. Create a Winterberry Sprig stencil following Steps 4 and 5 in the above instructions, or reuse your previously created stencil for this card. 2. Secure a Solar White card to a craft sheet using washi or painter s tape. Position the stencil over the card, and secure using washi or painter s tape. 3. Dab Green Hills Shadow ink, Green Leaf ink, and Soft Leaf Shadow ink over the stencil using a sponge dauber. 4. Create a flower stencil by die cutting an acetate sheet using the Floral Delights die. 5. Create a Hello stencil by die cutting an acetate sheet using the Hello die. Note: Be sure to save the center of the e.

Position the Hello stencil on the card, and secure the e center in place using repositionable adhesive. Dab Soft Pool Shadow and Tide Pool Shadow ink over the stencil using a sponge dauber. Remove the stencil and the center of the e. 7. Position the flower stencil on the card, and dab Soft Pool ink over the larger flowers on the stencil. Reposition the stencil to add flowers as desired. 8. Reposition the stencil to place a small flower over the first large flower. Dab Tide Pool Shadow ink over the stencil to add dimension to the larger flower. Repeat for each flower you stenciled on the card. 9. Punch a hole in the flower stencil using a Crop-a-Dile. Dab Soft Vanilla Shadow ink over the hole to stencil a dot on the card. Repeat to add multiple dots to the card. 10. Position a circle die over the greeting on the card, and run through your die-cutting machine with an embossing pad to emboss a circle into the card. Tips & Tricks For quick blending on small die cuts, apply your darker Copic color to the center of the die cut, and then press the lighter color around the darker shade. Keep the shape of your tiny flowers by pressing the center of each flower into a good amount of Glossy Accents. The liquid adhesive will conform to the shape of the flower, keeping those petals pointing up. This works great with dimensional butterflies too! When using a transparency, if you get some StazOn ink somewhere you don t want it, you can clean it up using an alcohol swab or wipe. Smooth out the edges of a DIY stencil where the die-cut designs overlap the edges of your acetate. Just fold a piece of washi tape over the die-cut edge to create a straight line.

4 36 Thinking of You by Julie Ebersole Card size: 4" x 5½" Instructions: Note: Every die-cutting machine is different. While these instructions have been written for the Sizzix Big Shot, with a little experimentation, this technique would work well with any standard diecutting machine. 1. Open the cutting platform to Tab 1, and position a cutting plate on the platform. Place your stencil on the cutting plate, and then add a White Linen cardstock panel. Next, add the silicone embossing mat and an additional thin rubber mat for added height. Top the stack with the second cutting plate. 2. Run the stack through your die-cutting machine to dry emboss the cardstock with the stencil design. 3. Lay the embossed panel on a non-stick craft mat. Fit the stencil into the negative impressions on the embossed panel to protect the areas around the design. Apply Worn Lipstick, Spiced Marmalade, and Crushed Olive Distress ink to the design using an Ink Blending Tool. Remove the stencil, and set the panel aside. 4. Create a 4" x 5½" top-folding card from White Linen cardstock. Apply a strip of washi tape along the left edge of the card. 5. Trim the embossed panel to about 3¼" x 5½". Adhere to the card, flush with the right edge, using dimensional adhesive. 6. Stamp a bird in Onyx Black ink on a White cardstock rectangle. Distress the edges of the bird piece using the edge of your scissors. 7. Stamp greeting in Unicorn White ink on Black cardstock, and dry the ink completely using a heat tool. Trim to create a greeting strip, and snip a triangle in one end to create a banner.

Attach the greeting banner to the bird piece using a Tiny Attacher. Adhere the bird piece and banner to a small glassine envelope. Adhere to the card. 9. Embellish the card with Satin Gold sequins, securing the sequins using Glossy Accents. Tips & Tricks The stencil makes a perfect mask to protect the white space in your dry embossed designs. You ll love how quickly and accurately you ll be able to add color to your pressure-embossed pieces! Head s up Sizzix Big Shot users! Don t move up to Tab 2 on your die-cutting platform for this technique. Adding a thin rubber mat to Tab 1 will give you the additional pressure you need to create a beautiful dry embossed design using your stencils.

6 38 Cherish by Shari Carroll Card size: 4¼" x 5½" Technique: 1. Apply three drops of similar shade acrylic paint to a gelli plate. Blend using a brayer. 2. Lay the Rays stencil on the plate, and cover with a White cardstock panel. Lay a piece of scratch paper over the cardstock and plate, and press down, smoothing your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint through the stencil to the cardstock panel. Remove the cardstock and stencil. 3. Lay a second White cardstock panel on the gelli plate, and cover with piece of scratch paper. Smooth your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint directly from the gelli plate to the cardstock panel. 4. Apply three drops of similar shade acrylic paint to a gelli plate. Blend using a brayer. 5. Lay the Clockwork stencil on the plate, and cover with a White cardstock panel. Lay a piece of scratch paper over the cardstock and plate, and press down, smoothing your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint through the stencil to the cardstock panel. Remove the cardstock and stencil. A light printing of the Rays will be transferred to the new cardstock panel along with the Clockwork design. 6. Lay a second White cardstock panel on the gelli plate, and cover with piece of scratch paper. Smooth your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint directly from the gelli plate to the cardstock panel. A light printing of both the Clockwork and Rays designs will be transferred to the cardstock. 7. Apply a large drop of White acrylic paint to the gelli plate and smooth out using a brayer.

7 39 8. Lay the Diamond Print stencil on the plate, and cover with the cardstock panel from Step 6. Lay a piece of scratch paper over the cardstock and plate, and press down, smoothing your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint through the stencil to the cardstock panel. Remove the cardstock and stencil. A light printing of both the Clockwork and Rays designs will be transferred to the already printed cardstock along with the Diamond Print design. 9. Apply a large drop of White acrylic paint and a drop of Green paint to the gelli plate and blend using a brayer. Add an additional drop of Green paint and smooth out using a brayer. 10. Lay the Stripes stencil on plate, and cover with the cardstock panel from Step 5. Lay a piece of scratch paper over the cardstock and plate, and press down, smoothing your hand over the scratch paper to transfer the paint through the stencil to the cardstock panel. Remove the cardstock and stencil. A light printing of the Diamond Print design will be transferred to the already printed cardstock along with the Stripes design. 11. Keep all printed panels for use on projects. Card: 1. Create a top-folding card from White cardstock. Adhere the greeting banner behind the heart window. Tie Blue twine around the entire heart-in-a-box piece. 8. Adhere the completed heart piece to the card using dimensional adhesive. 9. Embellish card with sequins and rhinestones. Tips & Tricks Keep a greeting from slipping when you re stamping on a transparency by placing an uninked stamp at each end of your acrylic block to help stabilize the inked stamp. 2. Trim the printed panel from Step 10 of the technique instructions to about 3" x 4". 3. Die cut a heart-in-a-box from White cardstock. 4. Stamp a border in Sea Glass ink vertically on the card, lining up the end of the border stamp with the fold of the card. 5. Adhere the printed panel to the card, overlapping the stamped border. 6. Stamp a greeting in Cotton White StazOn on transparency strip. Snip a triangle in the right end of the strip to create a banner.

8 40 Thankful For All You Do by Jennifer McGuire Card size: 5½" x 4¼" Instructions: 1. Create a stencil by die cutting three feathers from Craft-a-Board or chipboard using the Fancy Feathers dies. Note: Die cut the center feather first to help with spacing. 2. Lay the stencil over a 5½" x 4" panel of heavy White cardstock. 3. Spread white embossing paste over the stencil using a palette knife, working side to side in the direction of the feather details. Smooth out the paste and remove any excess. Remove the stencil. 4. Sprinkle blue and green embossing powder over the wet embossing paste feathers, using the darkest shade in the center of the feather and working out from the center in gradient colors. 5. Allow the embossing paste to dry completely, to prevent bubbling during heat embossing. Once the paste is set, heat emboss the feathers. 6. Stamp greeting in VersaMark ink on the panel below the embossed feathers. Heat emboss the greeting using Platinum Silver powder. 7. Adhere the completed panel to a Blue notecard.

This is a simple way to ensure you don t lose any details. To reuse your stencil after spreading embossing paste over it, wipe off the stencil right away with a paper towel. To add details to embossing paste using embossing powder, try this quick trick. Snip a straw at a diagonal to create a small scoop, scoop up the powder, and tap your finger against the straw to transfer it to the embossing paste. This easy idea will give you great control over the powder!
