But we flew 35 kids before we had to end it and only seven kids didn't get to fly. There were 22 ground volunteers and five pilots. Welcome to new ground volunteers Colin Gibb, Liam Gibb, David Lin, Dave Wilkins, and Greg Jacobs. Thanks for helping us! We hope you all come back again! Thanks to Kevin Stahl for arranging to have Blue Stack Smokehouse provide our lunch. If you go to Blue Stack Smokehouse let them know that you appreciate their donation. Our next rally is June 9. Congratulations to Kevin Stahl In recognition of his volunteerism, Chapter member Kevin Stahl applied for and received a grant (through his employer) from the Lenovo Next Generation Hope Fund of Triangle Community Foundation in the amount of five thousand dollars ($ ). These funds are earmarked for use in purchasing, equipping and maintaining an enclosed equipment trailer which will be used for storing and transporting materials to Young Eagles events. Also, as plans progress for the Hangar 2 museum project, the Chapter may be displaced from our current rented storage space and find the trailer to be very valuable in filling that need. Thanks to Kevin for his continued commitment to Chapter 2, for recognizing this opportunity, and for putting in the extra effort to secure it. Smooth Air! Many of our members have already upgraded and are very happy they have. Most like the data link weather and are amazed at the aircraft traffic reported that they didn t know was there. Many innovative minds have produced new products that offer / OUT capability. IPAD capability is common and interfaces with many of the popular NAV packages. Appareo produces the popular Stratus series of portable ADS-B receivers. This can be paired with their replacement transponder for full / OUT capability. Sporty s carries the full line of their products. My Zenith Zodiac is using the Levil 3AW with certified GPS for, position and as a WIFI hub for IPAD glass cockpit screens. Before 2020, I will add a Mode S transponder to use the certified GPS for OUT capability. Levil also has two very easy to mount and versatile products for full / OUT. The Beacon and the BOM that is strut mounted and wind powered. ( ) Silicon Valley aviation electronics startup microavionix ( ) has a new / OUT beacon that replaces a wingtip nav light or tail light, using WIFI to talk to your tablet. Owners of certified aircraft should avoid waiting too long for equipment selection and scheduling installation. Many in the avionics community are predicting a long backlog close to the January 2020 deadline maybe 6 months or more! Experimental aircraft owners have more options, but beware of needing avionics shop time to make it all talk to each other and work.
