This year's tour is expanding from a one day tour to 2 days, adding in on Sunday afternoon, a walking tour which will include no stairs. On our traditional Saturday night tour we will be adding new buildings, including the Nola Leach 3rd floor and the old Kelly Hotel. There will be lots of history and some mystery included as well. If you are interested in getting involved as a storyteller, a tour guide, or a costumed street walker, please contact me at coachlightgifts@gmail.com. Liz Sosniecki Moberly Historical Tours Chair December Living Windows Taste of Missouri Wine Stroll Downtown Moberly will soon be buzzing with people and vendors as we welcome them to the annual Missouri Wine Stroll. Sponsored by Moberly s Safe Passage, the stroll starts at Moberly Municipal Auditorium on Saturday, August 20th and runs from 3-10pm. The gala includes wineries, craft brewers, distilleries, restaurants, musicians of several genres and features a silent auction. Vendors will be available from 3-8 and the meal by Chef Jeff will be served from 5-7:30. Silent Auction will finish in three stages at 7:30/8:00/8:30. Dance available for all ticketholders at 8:30-10:00. Main Street seeks to provide unified leadership to energize the business and residential life in the downtown area. The organization focuses on attracting new business and creating more jobs, which in turn has a positive effect on the growth and economic value of the entire Moberly area. Main Street Moberly was founded in 1989 and it s membership continues to be comprised of property owners, businesses, non-profit organizations, and citizens. Design - implementation of public improvements, public spaces, façade improvement, signs, parking and streetscapes. Promotion - special events, retail promotions, brochures, image development. Organization public relations, fundraising, structure and overall work planning. Economic Vitality - developing a competitive direction for the downtown area, market surveys, business recruitment and business retention activities. 4 What is Pokemon Go? The most recent addition to the Pokemon brand, Pokemon Go is a free app that uses real time maps (via Google Maps) to create a world for players to explore and catch Pokemon in. The game was released in the United States on Wednesday, July 6th, While the app is open, it tracks the location of the player, and shows them nearby Pokemon to catch. Pokemon can appear anywhere from right next to the player, to several blocks away. This requires players to actually move to new physical locations to participate in the game. You literally walk along a map of your neighborhood to catch virtual Pokemon. The Moberly Public Library and the downtown Clock tower near the railroad museum are both Pokemon Gyms. Pokemon stops can be found at the Moberly Police Department, Post Office, Railroad Museum and caboose, and several area churches...meaning there will be increased downtown traffic. Thousands of libraries across the country have been made virtual Gyms, and this has already caused an increase of foot traffic for our buildings, attracting teens and young adults who may not typically be library patrons. Pokemon s can be found anywhere, with hundreds already having been captured in downtown Moberly. Pokemon Go appeals to a huge spread of demographics. Teens and young adults are playing it, young families and couples, middle aged and older. Pokemon Go is hugely nostalgic and sentimental for a lot of the older players. Even if you aren t interested in playing, it is important to appreciate this free game that gets people out in their communities, exploring, and finding new ways to appreciate their downtown! Meet a Main Street Member: Rachael Grime Hello! My name is Rachael Grime and I am thrilled to be a member of the Main Street Moberly Organization. I have worked for Little Dixie Regional Libraries since 2003 and am currently the Young Adult & Adult Services Librarian. I adore reading and everything bookish. I live in Cairo, am an only child, and have a ten year old dachshund named Daisy Jane who can do no wrong. I love to travel and am proud to say I have successfully travelled through the subway systems in Chicago! Stop by to see me at the library the next time you are downtown!

5 Were your lights out?! Thursday, July 7th a severe storm blew through Randolph County with winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The storm caused widespread havoc as our neighbors picked up limbs and branches, repaired roofs, and dealt with power loss for almost the entire day. The entire area of downtown Moberly was without power beginning around 7am and some areas didn t get power back until early evening. Many businesses closed their doors, the library closed early, and even the radio station was relying on generators. A tornado was reported in Boone county.
