Downtown: Where Tradition Meets Today Main Street Moberly s first fundraiser of 2014 is just around the corner. It is our annual Valentine s Day Cookie Fest set for Friday, February 14, This is your opportunity to show off your baking expertise and support Main Street Moberly s projects this year. We are seeking donations of all kinds of cookies and candy! This event will be a success when each business donates 3 dozen cookies or more. So, call or me to let me know you are participating!! What a fun and easy way to show your support of Main Street Moberly!! You can drop off your cookies at the Main Street Moberly Office between 8:30 12:30 or at Nola Leach beginning Wednesday, February 12th. Main Street Moberly, Inc. is a not for profit organization dedicated to an economically strong, safe, attractive and exciting downtown. Main Street seeks to provide unified leadership to energize the business and residential life in the downtown area. Attracting new business and creating more jobs, which in turn have a positive effect on the growth and economic value of the entire Moberly area. Main Street Moberly was founded in 1989 and it s membership continues to be comprised of property owners, businesses, non-profit organizations, and citizens. For more information on how to become a member, please contact Main Street Moberly s office at What does each Committee do at Main Street Moberly? Design - implementation of public improvements, public spaces, façade improvement, signs, parking and streetscapes. Promotion - special events, retail promotions, brochures, image development. Organization public relations, fundraising, structure and overall work planning. Economic Restructuring - developing a competitive direction for the downtown area, market surveys, business recruitment and business retention activities. Committee Updates Promotion & Organization Committees Please see Page 1 for a schedule of events. These two committee will meet and work together in 2014 in planning events and fundraisers for our Main Street Moberly organization. The meetings will be held at the Main Street Moberly Office, 112 N. 4th Street, at 8:00 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each. Liz Sosniecki will be the chairperson. Economic Restructuring Committee The Economic Restructuring Committee will be chaired by Alan Vanella and will meet at 8:00 a.m. on the.. Of the at the Main Street Moberly Office. Design Committee The Design Committee has some exciting plans for 2014! We hope to have something in place of the banners which have become weathered. The Design Committee meets on the first Thursday of each at 8:00 a.m. in the conference room at City Hall. Susan Hall will be the chairperson.

3 Name: Atina Roberts Business Affiliation: Moberly Monitor-Index Age: 32 Job Description: Reporter and jack-of-all trades for the Index. Years lived in Moberly: Roughly 32 years now, born and raised Moberly-ite. Original Hometown: Moberly! Education: Associate of Arts from MACC Community Involvement: I m working on having a more active role in the community. It has been a slow start. Atina Roberts Moberly Monitor Index Professional Background: I ve worked for several local businesses in customer service, and trained horses. Nothing terribly exciting thus far. A local businessperson I admire and why: There are several folks I admire for their determination and their attention to downtown. Susan and Kevin Hall are really high on that list. Susan and Kevin deserve the accolades for their hard work to promote the downtown area and their commitment to the history of the town. Why I m passionate about my job: I m writing history; not everyone gets that chance in life To actually be able to dictate to future generations what was happening. If I weren t doing this for a living, I would: Probably riding horses, not that ever paid well. Biggest career obstacle I ve overcome and how. I started my career at MMI as front office help, and moved to Circulation Manager after that. I realized pretty quickly that numbers weren t exactly my thing. I wanted to stay with the Index, and felt my skill set would be much more useful elsewhere. The move to the newsroom included a series of hurdles and interesting dance steps to prove that I would be a benefit to the newsroom and city. A favorite recent project: I really like what I have created with the Monday Mutterings and Time Travel Tuesday. Writing columns pushes my skills to another level and is a consent challenge to create something new and interesting each week. I recently started book reviews as well, which is a whole different ballgame though it has been a game I ve enjoyed. What people should know about this profession: There is a lot more that happens behind the scenes than you would imagine. What I do for fun: Horseback riding, motorcycle trips, reading, spending time with the family, and road trips. Family: Husband: Shawn Daughters: Catelyn, 9, and Martina, 4. Favorite place in Randolph County: I love the back roads and the old mines. Horseback riding in this area is always great. The county has a lot of offer everyone. Accomplishment I m most proud of: Professionally: making into the newsroom. I think the changes that have transpired this last year have been great. It has been neat being part of the change. Most people don t know that I: I think I rattle enough that most everyone knows a good chunk about me. I m pretty open, and like to entertain folks. Some requirements we know from previous employment. Some we pick up from trade magazines or other affiliations. And some things we learn the hard way: when we get caught doing it wrong. The new year is a good time to make certain you have all the necessary posters on display in your business. Certain posters are required for both employees and customers to view. Most can be found free at Take time to check your businesses to be certain you have the mandatory posters on display and in the proper location and that you have the most recently updated version.
