1 SaKMSE*e KARAS LAKE 010 HUDSON BAY EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY OF GROUP "D" KARAS LAKE AREA - RED LAKE MINING DIVISION ONTARIO INTRODUCTION A ground eectromagnetc survey was performed on fve cams wthn Group "D" durng the perod October 2 to October 10, The property conssts of fve cams wth a tota area of approxmatey 200 acres and s des crbed as foows: The property s drft covered but nearby out crops consst of fesc tuffs and fragmentas of Archean age. The purpose of the survey was to detect bedrock zones of eectrca conductvty whch mght be deposts of base meta suphdes. ACCESSIBILITY The property es 16 mes north of Ear Fas, Ontaro and s accessbe from there by the South Bay Mnes road. PREVIOUS WORK To the best of the wrter's knowedge, no prevous ground surveys or damond drng have been performed on ths ground. An arborne EM survey by tys company n 1972 prompted the present work.

2 - 2 - SURVEY METHODS Basenes were cut parae to the strke of the formatons. At 300-foot ntervas, pcket nes were cut at rght anges to these basenes. The GEONICS EM-17 nstrument was used n the horzonta oop mode wth a 300-foot co separaton between the transmttng and recevng cos. Readngs were taken at 100-foot ntervas aong the nes except that n ano maous areas the readngs were taken every 50 feet. The nstrument operates on a transmttng frequency of 1600 Hz at a power output of 2.5 watts. In ths type of survey, both the n-phase and out-of-phase components of the se condary fed are measured and are recorded as percentages of the prmary fed. The readngs for both components are potted aong the survey nes shown on the accompanyng map, and profes are drawn. A conductor w produce a curve n both pro fes whch goes from postve through zero to negatve and back to postve agan. The rato between the amp tudes of the negatve parts of the curves for the two components s a measure of the conductvty. A good con ductor, such as a pyrtc suphde body, w cause a greater amptude n the n-phase profe than n the outof-phase profe. The opposte s true for a poor conductor. RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 6.8 mes of EM-17 survey were competed on the fve cams. No defnte conductors were ocated. Because of thck overburden n the vcnty, a deeper penetratng method such as Turam shoud be attempted.
