1 AP ART SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS 2018: Digital Photography (2D Design) The summer homework is due at the end of the first week of fall semester! During the summer you may Mrs. Nelson with questions about the projects or photos of your projects in progress to get help in completing the assignments at Google Classroom Code: ekevs3 GO TO COLLEGE BOARD: Before you begin any of these assignments, please visit college board website and learn more about the AP Studio Art requirements. - Read the course description and familiarize yourself with the course requirements. - Under your specific 2D art portfolio there are many samples works, sample concentration themes and breadth works. - Take the time to look at the images and read student commentary and score rationale. - Please look at the level of craftsmanship and the development of a theme or concentration in each. Course Info : Sample Portfolios: (see bottom of page for sample portfolios) -studio-art-2-d-design COURSE OVERVIEW: You will all be required to complete portfolios within 3 sections. 1. Quality are the 5 pieces that 2D will actually print, mat and then submit to APCentral. 2. Concentration are the 12 photographs that show your growth/development on a specific theme or idea, and 3. Breadth are the 12 photographs that show your skills as an artist using various materials, techniques and processes. Take some time this summer to think about and focus on a concentration that will be unique and interesting (to you) to develop over the upcoming school year. SUMMER PROJECTS - Due 1st day back to school! Please finish the five projects below: Take 5 photos or more for each Project. 25 photos total (5 for each project) Can be black and white or color Can be edited or non-edited (photoshop, lightroom, any editing application) Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD
2 1. Repetition of objects, shapes, lines, pattern: Find or create a scene of something that illustrates repetition and pattern. Remember to choose an interesting vantage point - worm s eye, bird s eye, or extreme angle. Can be large or shallow depth of field. *Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD
3 2. Extreme close-up of food, almost to the point of abstraction. Very detailed. You can cut up fruits and veggies and look closely at the insides for interesting abstract qualities. *Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD
4 3. Worm s eye or bird s eye view of a still life object(s) with texture. Objects can be arranged by you or found inside or outside. Create a composition based on an arrangement of objects. Remember use worm s eye view (from the ground looking up) or bird s eye (looking above). *Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD

Show reflections in a metallic object or other reflective surface: Zero in on a section of metallic objects, such as a close-up of part of a bike or motorcycle, car bumper, spoons, an eggbeater or other objects or surfaces that reflect their surroundings. *Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD
6 5. Buildings in an URBAN/City landscape: Take an interesting angle and composition that is framed to capture buildings in a row or parts of the buildings showing. Don t forget about your vantage point. *Think ANGLES, LIGHTING, DRAMA, VANTAGE POINT, DEPTH OF FIELD
7 Project Grading Rubric I. Design= 3 pts a. Balance created by using the rule of thirds for asymmetrical design according to the rule of thirds, the center of interest is placed at any point off center but not at the edge of the picture, with other supporting images or shapes. b. Shows a center of interest or focal point that has the most visual interest and contrast c. Over all design has range of values from dark to light. II. Craftsmanship = 4 pts a. Style or technique in which the piece is executed is consistent through out and brought to completion b. Detail must be most apparent at the center of interest c. Intentional and deliberate use of depth of field d. lighting provides contrast, isn t distractive, and enhances photo. III. Creativity = 3 pts a. Solution to the design problem is unique. The overall design and images sustain interest. b. Composition is interesting and compelling due to appealing subject matter. c. The composition uses lines, perspective, and/or framing to create interest Total points possible = 10
