Welcome to Conner High School AP 2D Studio Art! AP 2D Studio is broken into 2 portfolios; Breadth and Concentration. Each portfolio will have 12 quality and professional artworks totaling 24 by the end of the year. 1 st semester we will focus on the Breadth portfolio. The Breadth portfolio is where students experiment with processes and materials. Many of the artworks will be made from in class assignments. We will focus on your strengths and weaknesses. 2 nd semester we will focus on the Concentration portfolio. The Concentration portfolio is where you will center your skills around one topic or theme to create a cohesive portfolio of 12 more artworks.
WORK ETHIC WORK ETHIC WORK ETHIC I cannot stress enough the amount of effort you will have to have to produce 24 quality and professional artworks. It takes TIME and ENERGY and CONSTANT analysis of your creative process. SUMMER SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS In your sketchbook, start to brainstorm a list of possible concentration ideas. The list should have ideas. From the list, narrow it to your top 5 ideas. For each idea, create a brainstorming page in your sketchbook. Draw, collage, and take notes of the idea on that page. Sketchbook Page 1: List of 15 possible concentration ideas Page 2: Idea #1 Example: Idea #1 Equine Studies Page 3: Idea #2 Idea #2 Astrological Studies Page 4: Idea #3 Idea #3 Medical illustrations (x-rays) Page 5: Idea #4 Idea #4 Evolution of Sunflowers Page 6: Idea #5 Idea #5 Narrative of Track Season
AP ASSIGNMENTS Bring ALL assignments the first day of school, August 16, 2015 (Wednesday). Assignment #1= Self-Portraits within Self-Portraits Objective: Create a composition that has at least two self-portraits interacting in some fashion. It should appear surreal and dream-like while expressing an emotion. Media: Graphite Pencil or Colored Pencils Assignment #2= Favorite Junk Food Still Life Objective: Successfully create a centered composition where the focus is on your favorite junk food. You can set it up just like the above left example with the table line and shadow or set it up a different way. Media: Colored Pencils or Acrylic Paint
Assignment #3= One Category 4 Types Objective: Choose one category (object) and paint 4 types of the object. Choose an analogous color scheme to depict the subjects. For example: above the one category is seashell and there are 4 paintings each illustrating a different kind of seashell. Media: Acrylic Paint or Water Color Assignment #4= Geometric Shape Collage Objective: Using geometric shapes (circles, squares, rectangels, triangles) cut out magazines, fill the entire composition. There should be 50 + shapes throughout the composition overloading the viewer with imagery. Media: Magazine clippings and glue stick
Assignment #5= Unlocking your future Objective: Use the composition style above to illustrate your future. Use the key hole as a sneak peek into what lies ahead for you. It can be realistic or fantasy. The inside should contrast with the exterior of the keyhole. (For example the outside is dull symbolizing my boring adolescence and the inside is bright symbolizing the hopes for my future.) Media: Your Choice Assignment #6= Standing Out Objective: Set up 5 different compositions that communicate individuality. How can someone or something stand apart from the rest? The subject matter is up to you, but the message needs to be direct and obvious. Take 10 photos per composition totaling 50 photos. Media: Digital Photography
