1 Laser Technology, Research and Development Contact person for the media Steffen Böhme Tapering of different optical components with CO 2-laser Laser based tapering overcomes typical limitations of conventional taper equipment. It is contamination free, without limits of power, and does not need consumables. The symmetry of the laser radiation permits a processing of larger glass geometries and provides customization. The linear down taper, waist and linear up taper length can be defined over a wide range. The technology was used to draw capillaries to a wall thickness of about 10 µm and is also suitable for Biconic Tapers, Fused Fiber Bundles, Fiber Couplers and Combiners.
2 Laser Technology, Research and development Contact person for the media Dr. Gerhard Kalkowski Direct bonding for a high power Faraday isolator Components of a Faraday isolator for a cw fiber laser system (1 kw, 1080 nm, 30 db) were fabricated using the technology of plasma-activated direct bonding. Anti-reflective coated Terbium gallium garnet (TGG) and sapphire disks were joined to improve cooling of the isolating material TGG. Direct bonding forms stiff durable connections between the materials which are essential for heat transport and avoids parasitic absorption. The peak-to-valley wavefront distortion was reduced to one twentieth compared to the unbounded TGG at a power of 260 W.
3 Optical Instruments, Optical Measuring Instruments, Research and Development Contact person for the media Marcel Sieler LED illuminated microoptical projectors The innovative array-projection technology uses high precision microlens arrays for parallelized image creation, thus enabling for new ultra-slim projector designs along with a high luminous output. We present a super-compact multiaperture projector with collimated LED-illumination for static light patterns. The optics prototype has a thickness of 3 mm while transmitting a flux of 40 lumens.
4 Research and development Contact person for the media Dr. Ulrike Schulz Nanostructures to provide a broadband antireflective function for a wide light incidence range are achieved by combination of plasma-etching and coating procedures. We present injection molded plastic lenses, web-materials and glass lenses to demonstrate the effect.

This year, the new Table-Top 3D Scatterometer TTS is presented that enables highly sensitive measurements of angle resolved light scattering, reflectance, and transmittance within the entire 3D-sphere. Optical and non-optical surfaces, materials, coatings, and components can be characterized with respect to optical performance, appearance, roughness and other functional properties using a compact and easy-to-use tool.
