1 ALM NEWSLETTER ISSUE 205 JULY 2018 MEETINGS: 1ST Thursday of the month 9.30am-3.00pm at the Cooranbong Community Services Centre, 614 Freemans Drive Cooranbong. COST FOR MEMBERS: $5 or $10 (Includes afternoon workshop) COST FOR VISITORS: $10 or $15 (Includes afternoon workshop) MORNING TEA IS SUPPLIED WEBSITE: Facebook GWENDOLIN LEWIS PASTEL ARTIST FROM THE EDITORS DESK Hasn t it been cold these last few weeks? I hope you have all been keeping warm and cosy, painting up a storm for the Lake Macquarie Library Exhibiton and planning your entries for our Art Show in October. As usual, we need VOLUNTEERS to assist with the show. Everyone will be expected to do their roster duty, but more people to hand out flyers, put up signs and help with advertising and setting up is needed. More details on page 4 in the committee meeting summary. As it such a big space, we are thinking of running some small informal workshops just an hour, with the theme Kid s art for Adults. The idea being that many parents would like some basics in helping their children to do art. Teaching parents will make life a lot easier than trying to show children. Just simple watercolour paintings, some different techniques everything will be organised and set up for the mini workshops so please let us know if you would be able to host one, so we can share the load. Letting you know ahead of time, I will be away on holidays for the whole of August. This means that your SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER WILL NOT BE SENT. Information for the September demonstration will be included in the AUGUST newsletter. Any articles you want included for those two months, please send ASAP. If you require your newsletter to be posted to you, please supply 11x self addressed, stamped envelopes otherwise you will not receive the newsletter. 2 A little about me... Living near Newcastle harbour has inspired me to paint the coal ships and the ever changing scenes around Newcastle s working harbor and windswept beaches. I have lived near the sea for the past 40 years of my life and the first 20 years were in an isolated country landscape. Both of these environments have had a strong influence on my painting. This demonstration will be on Seascapes with Crashing Waves. WHAT TO BRING Your own pastel set (plus min. needed 2 greens eg. pthalo green and dark olive, yellow green & 2 blues eg. pthalo blue and ultramarine dark, 1 white, 1 sand colour and 1 turquoise blue). pastel paper Mi Tientes TEX, and extra cash if you wish to purchase additional paper ($2.50 per sheet). Watercolours in Blue,Yellow and Rose, (student quality is fine here ). Your lovely creative self! A backing board A2 size and clips or masking tape. Also an old piece of towel. Prefer no Chux cloth please. Some photos will be available, but if students want to bring their own that would be lovely. Art Lovers Movement Newsletter July 2018 page 2 of 5
3 JUNE DEMONSTRATION PETER FENNELL So many handy hints and techniques in this wonderful demonstration. Thank you so much Peter Some of the tips and techniques: Have a blank canvas handy and scrub paint from brushes onto it as you work Clean brush s in turps and then dip in olive oil to keep supple for ages. Wash again before use. Peter uses Art Spectrum Glazing liquid gel extensively as it gives a nice shine and helps paint dry quickly Favoured colours Rembrandt Asphalt, Australian Red God, Australian Leaf Green. Vanishing Points are at eye level. In a painting of a building, I t is more interesting to have a corner to add depth. The photos from our members tell the rest of the story Mucky, random Backgrounds come to life Annie Palmer Ailsa Williams Carolyn Gawn Erica Cooper Art Lovers Movement Newsletter July 2018
