2 welcome Welcome to the Art School During the summer we offer five and six week courses which are ideal for beginners to try out a class and explore their creativity. Our classes attract people with various levels of artistic experience, from absolute beginners to people who took art classes in college and now have time to rekindle their passion, as well as a few experienced artists who want to share in the camaraderie of being among others interested in art. Whether you are taking a class for the first time or you have been taking classes for years, you will find a creative, friendly, and supportive community at the Art School. We invite you to leave the stress of daily life at the door and enter a world of discovery and creativity. Our excellent instructors are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and expertise in order to help each individual pursue their artistic goals. In the process of teaching, they may guide, mentor, and challenge you. Each day in the studio can be an exciting new adventure. 4 about the museum About the Boca Raton Museum of Art Started by a small group of artists in 1950, the Boca Raton Museum Art School is the cornerstone of a modern campus that is comprised of the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Artists Guild Gallery, and the Art School. The Art School is a dynamic active art center with dozens of classes held in each of the seven creative studio areas. Faculty and students of all ages and levels find a place where they can share their enthusiasm for the visual arts and process of making art, learning new skills, experimenting, and growing in their creativity and talents. In 2001, the Boca Raton Museum of Art opened in Mizner Park and the Art School took over the entire building on Palmetto Park Road. For more information and to join: visit bocamuseum.org/join call , ext. 206 Alfred DiMaio On View at the Museum this Summer Nomadic Murals: Contemporary Tapestries and Carpets April 24 October 21, 2018 Nomadic Murals is an exhibition of tapestries by contemporary artists such as Aziz & Cucher, Alex Katz, Kiki Smith, Nancy Spero, William Kentridge, Fred Tomaselli, Kara Walker, and Kehinde Wiley, among others. The works in the show are conceived and executed as tapestries and not copies of works that already exist in painting or other media. Lisette Model: Photographs from the Canadian Photography Institute of the National Gallery of Canada April 24 October 21, 2018 Lisette Model ( ) is one of the most influential street photographers, best known for her direct portrayal of the peculiarities of average people captured candidly in everyday situations. 9 ADULT CLASSES JEWELRY Jewelry in Bronze or Silver Open new doors to your imagination creating stunning metal jewelry using a fascinating new material easily worked with your hands and clay carving tools. Often called a magical substance, Art Metal Clay is made from precious metals combined with a special clay that, when heated, burns off to leave the precious metal. The soft clay is pliable, providing great ease in carving, molding, stamping, and designing. Start with bronze metal clay. White copper or silver can also be used. MASTERS' STUDIO Masters Studio This flagship program presents an opportunity for advanced painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, and mixed media artists to work in a concentrated program suited to those who are pursuing proficiency consistent with graduate level study, winning public and private commissions, major competitions, and professional representation. An important component of the Masters Studio rests in each artist s determination to strive for his/her own personal excellence. All workshops meet Tuesdays through Fridays. Portfolio Development This workshop is for students interested in applying for AP college credit in studio art, National Scholastic Art Awards, or applying to college art programs. The class consists of reviewing, selecting, and preparing artwork for student s portfolio. Fashion Design and Sewing For fashionistas who want to learn to design and sew their own clothing. Design your own clothing from start to finish. Choose the fabric, cut the pattern, and learn how to use a sewing machine to complete your garment.
