1 Morning Glow A &ill thranden Step 1: SKYANDWATER TOOLS: Blending Brush, Magic White Medium COLORS: Sky Mixture -IndianYellow, Deep Yellow, Permanent Red (marbled mixture) Clouds Mixture -Ahzarin Crimson, with a touch of Phthalo Blue Apply Magic White to your cenvas as described on page 9. Load a clean, dry Blending Brush with the Sky Mixture. Using heavy pressure, apply the color with short, crisscross strokes in the center, upper portion of the canvas and to the center 1/3 of the lower portion of the canvas. This will create both the sky and water afeas. Load a clean, dry Blending Brush with the Clouds Mixture. Holding the brush straight into the canvas and using heavy pressure, dance and twist the brush across the top 3 inches of your canvas. Please refer to the Overall Pictures at the beginning of this project for placement. Step 2: SUNLIGHT AND REFLECTIONS TOOLS: Fan Brush, Blending Brush COLORS: Sunlight Mixture -Titanium White, Permanent Red and a touch of Deep Orange Sunlight Shadow -Alizarin Crimson and Phthalo Blue Load your clean, dry Fan Brush with the Sunlight Mixture. Holding the brush straight into the canvas and using a medium pressure, dance and twist the brush just below the center of the dark clouds. Clean your brush and reload with the Sunlight Mixture. Create the reflection of the sunlight in the water. Add a little of the Cloud Mixture to your uncleaned Fan Brush and pull a flat cloud beneath the sunlight, using a long horizontal stroke. Use your clean, dry Blending Brush to pull the reflection of the sunlight downward in the water. Load a clean, dry Fan Brush with the Sunlight Shadow Mixture and create a shadow around the top of the sunlight. Use a clean, dry Fan Brush to pull out sun streaks from the sunlight area. Please refer to Overall Picture D for placement. Load your clean, dry Fan Brush with the Sunlight Mixture and add highlights along the top of the flat cloud below the sunlight. Pull down more sun streaks below the flat cloud. Use a clean, dry Blending Brush to lightly blend the clouds around the sunlight. t-t

2 Step 3: DISTANT TREE LINE TOOLS: Fan Brush, Palette Knife, Blending Brush COLORS: Distant Tree Line -Add more Phthalo Blue and Ahzarin Crimson to the Sunlight Shadow Highlight Water Lines Mixture in Step 2 -Permanent Red -Titanium White and Indian Yellow Load your clean, dry Fan Brush with the Distant Tree Line Mixture. Tap in a row of trees across the center of the canvas. Look at Overall Picture C for placement. Use your uncleaned Fan Brush to add a touch of Permanent Red highlight along the top of the trees. Pull reflections down into the water beneath the tree line. Load a clean Palette Knife with a thin ribbon of the Water Lines Mixture. Holding the knife almost flat against the canvas, touch the blade to the base of the tree line and pull along the shoreline. Reload your knife with the Water Lines Mixture. Holding the knife flat against the canvas, cut a series of water lines randomly throughout the water. Use a clean, dry Blending Brush to softly hypnotize, or blend the water area. Step 4: ISLAND OF TREES AND BUSHES TOOLS: Foliage Brush, Blending Brush, Fan Brush, Palette Knife COLORS: Tree Base -Sap Green and Ahzarin Crimson Bushes Mixture -IndianYellow, Titanium White, Deep Orange, Permanent Red Shudow Lines -Permanent Red and Phthalo Blue Load a clean, dry Foliage Brush to a rounded edge with the Tree Base Mixture. Holding the brush vertically, tap it into the canvas where you want the top of the trees to appear. Work down the height of the tree toward the water, turning the brush from center to left to right. Without reloading your brush, create the tree reflections in the water. Use a clean, dry Blending Brush to pull the tree reflections downward in the water. Load a clean, dry Fan Brush with the Bushes Mixture. Tap the brush along the base of the trees to create the bushes. Load a clean, dry Foliage Brush with the Bushes Mixture and touch in highlights on the right sides of the trees. Use the corner of your clean Palette Knife to scratch tree trunks into the trees and into the tree reflections in the water. You are removing paint with this stroke, so clean your knife blade often. Load a clean Palette Knife with a ribbon of the Sunlight Mixture from Step 2. Holding the knife almost flat against the canvas, touch the blade to the base of the bushes and push along the shoreline. Load your uncleaned Palette Knife with a ribbon of the Shadow Lines Mixture and pull along the shoreline on the very left side of the shoreline, to create shadowed water lines beneath the trees. 74

5 Step 5: FOREGROUND TREES, BUSHES AND FENCE TOOLS: Blending Brush, Foliage Brush, Fan Brush, Palette Knife COLORS: Tree Base -Tree Base Mixture from Step 4 Sun Streak -Magic White Medium and IndianYellow Tree Shudows -Phthalo Blue and Ahzarin Crimson Sun Glow -Permanent Red IndianYellow and Titanium White Load a clean, dry Blending Brush with the Tree Base Mixture and create the large foreground trees and bushes. Holding the brush vertically, touch it to the canvas where you want the top of the tree to begin. Tap the brush into the canvas, bending the bristles slightly, lifting the brush of the canvas after each stroke. Continue working down the tree, turning the brush from center to left to right. Load aclean, dry Blending Brush with the Sun Steak Mixture. Use horizontal brush strokes to pull streaks of reflected sunlight across the water to the left of the large foreground trees. Load a clean, dry Blending Brush with the Tree Shadows Mixture and tap in the shadows randomly throughout the trees and bushes, adding more shadows near the base of the trees. Load a clean, dry Foliage Brush with the Sun Glow Mixture and tap highlights on the tops of the bushes just below the sunlight reflections. Reload your uncleaned Foliage Brush with the sun Glow Mixture and tap highlights on the left side of the large tree in the left foreground. Load a clean Palette Knife with a ribbon of the Sun Streak Mixture. Create the illusion of tree trunks by allowing the paint to pull from the knife with each stroke as you lift off the canvas. Load a clean Palette Knife with a ribbon of the Tree Shadows Mixture. Create the fence posts by touching the blade of the knife to the canvas and allowing the paint to pull from the knife with each stroke as you lift off the canvas. Load a clean Palette Knife with the Sun Streak Mixture and add highlights on the fence. Step 6: SIGNATURE TOOLS: Script Liner Brush, Odorless Paint Thinner COLOR: Your Choice Thin the color of your choice with Odorless Paint Thinner.
