2 Tie Pocket Pouch epattern - eij881 Page 1 Quilted, hip length wrap jacket has complimentary reversible lining, shawl collar and set in sleeves with roll up cuffs. The edges of the jacket, including the ends of the sleeves, are encased with contrasting bias binding which also serves as the side tie closure. 3 Tie Pocket Pouch epattern - eij881 Page 2 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEN S TIE VERSION Note: Tie labels, generally tacked on the back side of men s ties, will not be shown in the construction illustrations. If possible, leave the label intact or remove and then replace at the end of the project. 1. Cut off small end of tie so that it measures 21 1/2" long from point to cut end as shown. Remove stitching on the back of the wide end of tie from point downwards for 9. See illustration. You need to be able to open out the folded tie sides in order to insert the Stitch N Shape interfacing later. It may be necessary to remove the tie label but if desired, you may tack it back on when project is complete. 2. Press under the short end of tie 1/2" and pin. Stitch across tie a scant 1/4" beneath pressed fold. The tie will be folded like an accordion. Place tie before you with lining side up and point on top. Proceed as follows. 4. Measure 3 3/4" up from Fold A and mark. Press tie down at this mark as shown, creating Fold B. Stitch FOLD B together 1/8 from folded edge. 5. Bring small end up (that was stitched under in step 2) so that stitched end is approximately 3/8 beneath Fold B. Press, creating FOLD C. Pin. With the wide pointed end of tie out of the way, stitch close to sides to form small pocket as shown. It is important to be sure to NOT stitch the pocket through the bottom layer of tie (pointed end) so the interfacing can be inserted in the next step. 6. Cut a section of Stitch'N'Shape that is 4 1/2" X 3. (If tie is slightly narrower or wider, adjust size of Stitch'N'Shape.) Open tie back and insert interfacing in the tie opening so that one 3 side butts against Fold A. 3. Measure down 10 from point and mark. Fold tie up at this point and press a crease. This is FOLD A. 7. Fold sides of tie back over the Stitch'N'Shape so that they meet in the center and hand tack them together. If using a snap closure, just above interfacing, about 5 down from point, make a 1 line of stitching centered across tie.

4 Tie Pocket Pouch epattern - eij881 Page 3 8. Stitch close to sides through all thicknesses, forming a second pocket and securing to wide end of tie. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR FABRIC VERSION 1. Cut out tie shaped pattern from outer fabric and lining fabric. With RST, pin tie to lining. Stitch in 1/2" seam, pivoting at points and leaving narrow end of tie open. Trim seam allowance and clip corners. Turn RSO. Press. Topstitch wide end of tie 1/4 from edge, pivoting at point. (Topstitiching will not be shown in illustrations. ) 9. Measure down about 4 7/8 from point of tie and mark. Press tie down at this point forming Fold D. This will create the flap covering the pockets of the Tie Pocket Pouch. 2. With lining side up, press sides of tie inward to meet in the center and press tie flat. Press under the short end of tie 1/2 and stitch across tie 1/4" from fold. 10. Closure 1: Sew half of a snap on the front of the small pocket, centered about 1 above lower edge. Sew remaining half of snap on underside of flap centered about 1 from point. Make sure the snap halves line up. 3. The tie will be folded like an accordion. Place tie before you with lining side up and point on the top. Mark placement of folds using your pattern piece as a guide. You will make four folds. The first, FOLD A, is up. The second, FOLD B, is down. The third, FOLD C. is up. The last, FOLD D, is down to form the flap. 11. Closure 2: Grommet and elastic: Insert a Dritz grommet according to manufacturer s directions into the tie flap so that the center of grommet is approximately 1 7/8 from point of tie. Cut a piece of 1 wide elastic that is 12 long. Insert one end of elastic into the tie opening, centered over Fold D, with end extending 1/4" beyond fold. Pin and stitch across fold for 1, backstitching to secure, catching in elastic beneath. Pull elastic back up and through grommet, being careful not to twist. Turn pouch over so that outer pouch is facing you. Place remaining end of elastic centered over FOLD D with 1/4" extending beyond it. Stitch across elastic along FOLD D (1/4 from end of elastic), backstitching to secure. 4. Following illustrations, fold tie up along FOLD A and press a crease. Fold tie down along FOLD B and press a crease. Stitch FOLD B together 1/4" from edge. Fold tie up along FOLD C. With wide end of tie out of the way, pin along sides and stitch close to sides to form small pocket as shown. It is important to be sure to NOT stitch the pocket through the bottom layer of tie (pointed end) so the interfacing can be inserted in the next step. Bring wide end of tie back up.

5 Tie Pocket Pouch epattern - eij881 Page 4 5. Cut from Stitch N Shape interfacing a section that is 3 1/2" X 5 for smaller pouch or 4 X 5 1/2" for larger pouch. Insert interfacing into tie opening (narrower side down) until it butts against FOLD A. Fold the sides of the tie back over the interfacing to meet in the center. Tack in place along center of tie. 6. Form large pocket by pinning down sides of large pocket and stitching close to side edges, securing it to back of tie. 7. If using a snap closure, stitch across tie just above the interfacing. This stitching should be centered on tie and about 1 in length. Sew half a snap on the front of the small pocket, centered about 1 above lower edge. Sew remaining half of snap on underside of flap centered about 1 from point. Make sure the snap halves line up. Adjust position of snap as desired. 8. If using a grommet / elastic closure proceed as follows: Insert a Dritz grommet according to manufacturer s directions into the tie flap so that the center of grommet is 2 1/4" from point of tie for large pouch or 2 from point of tie for small pouch. Cut a piece of 1 elastic that is 12 " long for large pouch or 11 long for small pouch. Insert one end of elastic into the tie opening so that it is centered and end extends 1/4" beyond FOLD D. Pin and stitch across FOLD D for 1, backstitching to secure, catching in elastic beneath. Pull elastic back up and through grommet, being careful not to twist. Turn pouch over so that outer pouch is facing you. Place remaining end of elastic, centered over FOLD D with 1/4" extending beyond it.
