Did we have a good time in Sumter or what? Thanks to District 5 for hosting such a fantastic Spring Meeting. Spring seems to have sprung straight into summer this year. It is only the first week of May but we are already picking squash and zucchini from our garden and have tomatoes set on the vine. The pool is ready for swimming and floating around and the AC has been running. I am anxiously awaiting our next event the Spring into Summer Retreat at White Oak the first week of June. I can hardly wait to sew with my friends, walk the grounds, sit in a rocker, and enjoy the firepit and some Sm ores in the evening. Pg. 5 More District News Pg. 6 Even More District News Pg. 7 Another Page of District News I want to thank everyone who contributed the 87 quilts for Covering SC Kids that were turned in at Spring Meeting. They were then hung in the USCB gallery for a few weeks. Pat Wys presented a trunk show/lecture and then a workshop demonstrating how shades of neutrals can be used to make a vibrant quilt; something we don t usually consider. Fiber Artist, Barbara James lecture at our March meeting prepared our minds for our all day fabric dyeing class on Saturday. With our teacher, Jeanne Flanagan of Boston, we dyed primary, secondary and tertiary colors, learning how to use the same three basic dyes to create a large and varied set of colors that all blend well together. We re starting to put blocks together for our mystery quilt which we decided to make instead of blocks of the month. We are still working with a group of seniors through Beaufort County PALS and have secured sewing machines for them, showed them how to create a quilt, and in some cases even taught them how to use a sewing machine.
