1 NORTHEAST AREA EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS The Northeast Area Extension Homemakers is a very close knit group of ladies even though the area stretches over 120 miles. One of our major projects was our officer and leadership development training. Energy Bus theme based on the book by Jon Gordon. We used the Another major program that we conducted was Homemaker Enrichment Camp. The theme for camp was Friendships In Bloom. 21 craft classes were offered during this 3 day camp. Several counties have organized special interest clubs. Some of these clubs are in the high schools and in senior citizens communities. Also a special interest club for moms and their infants has proven to be very successful. We are continuing to work together to make the best better as we grow in knowledge and friendship. BOYD COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS This has been a very busy year for the Boyd County Homemakers. The theme for our annual county meeting was a Blast from the Past, and we were transported back to the 1950 s. It was a great success with 77 members in attendance. We were asked to decorate the Highland s Museum for the Christmas season. The majority of the decorations were hand crafted by our members. Many workshops were held at both the Extension Office and at the Frank s Building. Each Club decorated a themed tree as well as helping with the overall decorating. A total of twenty (20) trees adorned the museum s three floors, along with ten (10) wreaths, garlands and window displays. One of our decorated windows won the Best Dressed Window in the City of Ashland. We provided cookies along with a booklet full of our favorite recipes and some of our family traditions for the museum patrons during the holiday open house. The Homemakers helped with Ashland s annual Tour of Homes, during the holidays. We participated in a coat drive in October and November as well as, a blanket drive. We held a Peanut Butter Drive for the Ministries Without Wheels, in the month of November. We have had fund raisers which enabled us to send 3 4 H students to Camp. Our Homemakers, as individuals, help with various 4 H projects such as demonstrations/speeches, the Reality Store project, and this year s fund raising project Valentine s Day Cookie Sale. We are continuing our weekly sleeping mats workshops. The sleeping bags are made from plastic shopping bags. The bags are used to assist the community s homeless and also to be made available to the Red Cross in times of emergencies. An added benefit is to keep the
2 bags out of our landfills. This project is tentatively going to be showcased at the 2014 KEHA meeting in Bowling Green, which will further help the homeless in other areas of our state. Currently, we are working with Safe Harbor, which is a safe haven for battered women and their children. The building is being remodeled and each club, along with various churches, will furnish each room with bedding, towels, wall decorations, and etc. Other projects/workshops already scheduled or in the works are: making potato bracelets, bread making, and making hats and blankets for preemie babies in our tri state area. We are ready to make the upcoming year our best yet! CARTER COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS Homemakers in Carter County have been very active this year and we are very excited to announce that we have added 2 new clubs. We now have 15 clubs and 232 members. One of our major activities this year was a Holiday Extravaganza. During the event holiday decorations, crafts, and recipes were shared with those attending. A booklet with recipes, instructions, and patterns was distributed. Our Homemaker organization was invited to decorate the lodge at Carter Caves State Park during the Christmas season. Also, we assisted with the Hometown Holiday celebration in Grayson. We are having a great time on the 2 nd and 4 th Friday of each month when we gather at the extension office educational building to work on crafts. It is a day when each person can work on the craft of their choice. Knowledge and craft ideas are shared. A new project that we have started is making quilts for two Hospice centers. Several members meet to work on quilts on a weekly basic. In addition, there are other members who cannot come together with the group; therefore, they are making quilts at home to donate to the project. Several Homemaker members volunteer to work with various 4 H events, including, speech/demonstration; officers competitions; project judging; and Reality Store. An annual Holiday Craft Fair was held during the month of November. 63 exhibitors made over $12,000 during the fair. 600 plus people attended the fair. A fashion show was presented by Wilma s Dress Shop during the fair. Other activities that homemaker clubs are involved in include: Meals on Wheel, volunteering at a local community center; working with food pantries to provide food for the homeless and those impoverished, Adopt A Highway, visiting the nursing homes, and collecting items for our soldiers. We continue to be 100% in contributions to the Ovarian Cancer Research Program.

4 JOHNSON COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMKAERS The Johnson County Homemakers have had a lot of things going on. During the past several months the weather has proven to be a challenge, but we have continued to work together. The Flat Gap ladies have made over 100 lap quilts for the nursing home, the VA hospital, and other places. Clubs have participated in a lesson on painted quilt blocks and construction. We celebrated international month with a program about Greece which was taught by a homemaker member who had lived in Greece for 20 years. We are happy to welcome a new staff assistant who has been very helpful. Classes are being planned on tin punch, pin cushions, painting, and pottery. taking some tours during the spring and summer. We will also be MAGOFFIN COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS Magoffin County has four homemaker clubs. In addition to the clubs we have a group of members at large who enjoy going to the local nursing home each week to play Bingo with the residents..a new special interest club was started. It is a group that has joined together to help promote local crafters, artists and small vendors in our area. One interesting projects that the clubs participate in is decorating the window in the county extension office on a quarterly basis. A soup bean dinner was held as a fundraiser with the proceeds going to sponsor a homemaker scholarship fund. Our annual meeting was held and our theme was Yes, WE Can Do It, We are Extension Homemakers. Everyone is, again, looking forward to a great year and the many activities that will be scheduled for the coming year. PIKE COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS Pike County Extension Homemakers are continuing programs and implementing new ideas that serve our wide and various communities. These include programs at nursing homes, libraries, fire departments, community centers, and historic buildings. We hold workshops throughout the year to make turbans and hats for cancer patients. We make extra small blankets and hats for premature babies born at the Pikeville Medical Center. The blankets are also used as grief blankets for families of stillborn babies. One club makes adult bibs for Hospice.
5 Pike County Homemakers take pride in our annual Homemaker in the Mountains at the Breaks Interstate Park each October. Many heritage skills are demonstrated, such as: using a loom, quilting, crocheting, basket making, carving apple head dolls, and others. Each club does hands on activities teaching mini crafts. Hand crafted items are always on display for all to see. Refreshments are made and served by our homemakers.
