Judges must not award prizes to unworthy exhibits. 7. All needlework will be judged with regard to beauty, degree of perfection, amount of work and suitability for the purpose for which it is intended. 8. Excellence in sewing is determined in part by width and evenness in size of seams, hems, tucks, bands and gathers. Stitches should be fastened, bastings removed, and everything neatly finished. In appearance, the work should be neat, pressed, and the material suitable for the garment in which it is used. 9. If item is made with needle, enter in needlecraft. Must not be duplicated in another department. Score Card Workmanship 40% Suitability of article to purpose 20% Beauty and originality of design 20% Harmony of color and material 20% Total 100% From an educational standpoint the exact percentage allotted each item on the above on the scorecard is not vital, but does call attention to the relative importance of the different points that should be considered in selecting or making a garment or piece of art needlework. It will be noted that while workmanship is considered important, there is no doubt that too much emphasis has been given to it in the past at the expense of other equally valuable considerations. 1
