3 Required Hanging Method Instructions Please be advised that any Art or Photography entry that requires hanging must be prepared for hanging prior to entry. Any item not properly prepared for hanging WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Chair persons are NOT responsible for prepping the entries for hanging. Photography is to be 8X 10 in size and adhered to a piece of foam board measuring 8 X 10. This will give the product the weight it will need to properly hang and not be damaged while on view. Once you have adhered the art or photo to the foam board simply slip it into a three ring sheet protector. This sheet protector will give us the capabilities of hanging your entry with out damaging it. Again we are not responsible for any prep work and we will not have the resources for you to prepare on site. Any office supply store or major chain store containing office and school supplies would have foam board, sheet protectors and adhesives that are safe to use on your entries. General Rules 1. The Home and Garden Show is open to all residents of Freestone County. All exhibits must be the work of the contestant and may not have been entered in a previous Freestone County Fair. All entries regardless of age of participant must be 80% completed by that participant. All project entries must have been completed between June of 2017 and June of Professionals may enter the fair for display only. They will not be judged or receive awards. A single business card may be displayed on the exhibit. 2. All Agriculture Mechanics contestants should refer to section 9 for specific details. 3. A fee of $3 for the first entry, and $1 for each entry after per person is due at check in. Ex: 2 items would be $4. Senior Citizens, 65 and older are free. Check in for all entries is on Monday June 11, 2018 between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Civic Center, this includes all Quilts and baked goods. Judging will be completed that day. A silent auction will take place in the evening for the baked goods in the youth age groups. 4. All exhibits must be clearly labeled with contestant name, division, class and age category. Labels should be clearly written and attached on front of item. 5. The Freestone County Home & Garden Show as well as the Freestone County Fair Association cannot be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property. Please be advised monitoring of the building will be limited. 6. The Civic Center will be open on Monday evening after judging is complete. (Approximately 6:00 8:00 p.m.),tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. All entries must remain on display until Friday there will be NO EARLY RELEASES!!! 7. We will release all entries Saturday, between 8:00 am and 1:00 p.m. If you will not be there give someone else your form and have it picked up. All articles left will be disposed of promptly. We will be unable to hold any items for future pick ups.
4 8.All articles that are soiled or unfit for exhibition will NOT BE ACCEPTED for display. 9.Awards shall be left to the discretion of the judges with the decision based on the worthiness of the entry. Best of Division will be awarded to the BEST entry in EACH division. 10.Participants may NOT enter MORE THAN ONE article in each class. DIVISION 8 HORTICULTURE CONTINUED 7. No painting is permitted on fresh materials. Minimal painting on dried material is permitted. No artificial leaf polishes may be used. 9. Judging criteria: design, artistic concept, expression, distinction, cultural perfection, condition and grooming. 11.The Home and Garden Show is coordinated and conducted by volunteers who spend their own time and resources for this community event. They are not compensated for their services and perform their duties to the best of their ability. Please thank them when you see them as they have worked extremely hard to provide a quality competitive show. 12. Professionals may exhibit their items with an entry fee of $3 per item and place a business card on the front of the exhibit but items will not be judged. Age Categories for Judging KIDDIE CORNER - 4 years of age through 7 years JUNIOR YOUTH - 8 years of age through 12 years SENIOR YOUTH - 13 years of age through 18 years ADULTS 19 years of age through 64 years SENIOR CITIZENS - 65 years of age and older

Exhibitors may provide their own care during hours when the building is open The Show is not responsible for lost, damaged or dead items. Small items, accessories, etc. should be securely fastened to their container. Items of great sentimental value should not be used. 1. Entries should feature 3 or more varieties of fresh planted materials except in C and Entries should be designed to be viewed form all sides. 3. Plants should be clean and attractively potted in a container that is suitable for tabletop display. All plants and materials should be free from blemishes, insects and disease. 4. Accessories are permitted; however emphasis should be on the creative use of natural, fresh planted materials. 5. Plants should show evidence of being grown in the container, such as being securely rooted in the soil. DIVISION GUIDELINES AND RULES DIVISION 1 SEWING Casual Dressy Costumes Creative Clothing Handbags/ 1. A label should be securely attached to the garment. 2. All entries should be well pressed, clean and odorless. DIVISION 2 QUILTS Class 7 Appliqué Pieced Wall Hangings 45 X45 or smaller Mixed Techniques Quilted Items such as totes, runners, etc. Hand Quilted Quilts Machine Quilted Quilt 1. Quilts of any size will be judged. Go Texas quilts will be judged by more specific guidelines. Go Texas Quilts must have measurements included.

Articles may be exhibited only by the maker or producer. DIVISION 7 ART A B A B Two Dimensional, Dry media, B &W, Chalk, Crayon, Charcoal, Pen & Ink, Pencil Two Dimensional, Dry Media Color, Pastels, Chalk, Colored Pencils Wet Media, Paintings. Oils or Acrylics Painting. Water Color Sculpture and 3-D Design Digital Design and Computer-Generated Books and Scrapbooks Note: All art classes will be judged in the same age groups as all other divisions. 1. Creativity and originality will be stressed in judging. 2. All art other than the 3-D, sculpture and books MUST BE prepared for hanging as instructed in the instructions found in the back of booklet. Limit ONLY ONE photo per class. Professionals may enter but for display only. 2. Entries may be color or black and white. Entries must be submitted in 8 X 10 ONLY and must be prepped for hanging as specified in the instructions in the back of this booklet. (See section on adhering to foam board and a sheet protector.) 3. All entries must be labeled as stated in general rules. 4. No frames or glass allowed. Class 8 Class Other Pickles (peach, beet, pepper, etc.) Sauces & Relish (corn, pepper, etc.) Dairy Products 1. All containers should be STANDARD canning jars only. Rings and rims must be left on jars. Jars with rusted rings will not be accepted. Pectin may be used in jellies, jams and preserves. 2. Entrants may have only ONE entry per class. 3. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor and must have been processed in the last year (since June of 2014). 4. All entries must be heat processed following current canning guidelines in Ball Blue Book or USDA guidelines. These guidelines are important for the safety of those eating the canned goods. 5. All entries must be labeled as stated in general rules.
8 DIVISION 4 FOOD PRESERVATION CONTINUED 6. All jars will be opened by the judges and will be tasted. Products will be left out during the week for community viewing therefore products may not be safe to consume after pick up on Saturday. 7. Damaged or improperly sealed jars will be disqualified. DIVISION 5 BAKED GOODS Yeast Breads 1 loaf Quick Breads 1 loaf Cookies 12 Brownies & Bar Cookies 12 Cakes, Iced 1 DIVISION 5 BAKED GOODS CONTINUED 1. All entries must be in/on a non returnable or disposable dish or thin board and wrapped securely with clear wrap for display. No aluminum foil or tented plastic covers please. Non disposable dishes will be accepted but fair is not responsible for their return or damages. 2. All entries must be labeled as stated in general rules. 3. A copy of the recipe MUST accompany the entry. Entries will not be accepted without a recipe. 4. All baked goods in the youth division will be silent auctioned on Monday evening from approximately 6-8 p.m. after judging is complete. All proceeds for the auction will be given to the youth exhibitor.
