Barn Quilt Trail What is a barn quilt trail? Quilt squares which are carefully painted on 8 x8 or 4 x 4 MDO signboard and mounted on historic barns and properties.

Our Barn Quilt Trail is a paved loop of road (with two spurs) traversing Doe Lake, Barkway, Merkley, Housey s Rapids and Coopers Falls Roads.

A current total of 24 quilts will be on display, ranging in size from 3 x 3, to 8 x 8 feet square.

A dedicated group of volunteers has been working 100 s of hours on this project.

Generous donations from Chamberlain Timber Mart, Dulux paint and many others got us started.

The sponsors will be recognized in our pamphlets and on our new website which is under construction by Sofa Communications.

The barn quilts will be tourist attractions with a projected minimum lifespan of 5 years.

Sponsors will be sought for each barn quilt square. The sponsors will be recognized in our pamphlets and on our website. The barn quilts will be tourist attractions with a projected lifespan of 5 years. We hope to complete the first stage of the trail soon and see it grow over the next two years perhaps going viral as they have in much of North America

Airing of the Quilts - Spring 2014 In Spring, the pioneers would bring out their quilts to air them after the long winter.

We plan to recreate this Airing of the Quilts in the Spring of 2014 to promote both our Barn Quilt Trail and advertise the August 16th event.

Events Being Held On August 16, :00 2:00 pm Doors Open: Passports to be stamped at various locations ~ barns, homes, churches, cemeteries etc. Art Exhibition and Museum Display 2:00 4:00 pm Boat Tours at Bass Lake Beach: Housey s Rapids 4:00 5:00 pm Parade 5:00 7:00 pm Speeches/Dancing/BBQ Piping in by Fred Schultz O Canada-led by Carolyn Cooper Peters Speeches (Mayor, Councilor, MMP, MP) Dancing Eating! 7:00 pm onward Local musicians performing

Parade Tractors Fire truck Shriners Horse-drawn wagon(s) Segwun Float Floats Kids on decorated bikes Hammond vintage bus courtesy of Greg Hammond Thunder Motorcycle Club (TBC)

The Ryde Co-op will be the centre of all our activities!

We need funds to finance: Signs (we have offer of sign on Highway 11) Display cases for artifacts Brochures CD s which will be offered for sale Pamphlets and posters to promote our celebration

Our barn quilt trail is an excellent cultural tourism product, similar to the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery, which recently was featured in a day long bus excursion.

In Southern Ontario there is a barn quilt trail with over 250 quilts, spanning 5 counties. They started with one small trail. Tuesday and Thursday of this week they hosted a conference in London Getting on the Barn Quilt Trail. This is wave that Muskoka needs to get on.

The celebrations for Ryde s 135th Anniversary will attract people, encourage artistic endeavors, link the community, celebrate pioneer history and leave a lasting legacy for the region. The District of Muskoka will receive excellent value for their investment in our project. Our volunteers are putting in hours of time to make this event happen. Please support us!

We will be climbing to new heights in the future!!
