3 CALIFORNIA spirit Debora Wright 2017 Event Chair CEO of Inner Images My name is Debora Wright and I am honored to be the Event Chair for California Spirit 32. I am incredibly passionate about the work of the American Cancer Society. I became involved because women were not getting mammograms as recommended by American Cancer Society. As a mammographer, I embrace everything that ACS stands for from prevention, early detection, advocacy, education and research, as well as the Cancer Action Network. The commitment to saving women's lives extends to passing laws that have made mammography a mandatory benefit paid by insurance companies. Breast cancer is becoming a chronic disease as we have almost 3 million women surviving their diagnosis. I ve been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society for the past 30 years and I am so impressed with the advancements that have been made, the lives that been touched and the ongoing commitment and support of survivors and patients in our community. Your commitment to California Spirit last year helped us raise over $100,000 dollars to benefit programs such as the 80 by 18 Colorectal Cancer Campaign, Look Good Feel Better, Road to Recovery, research and prevention which directly affect patients and survivors in Los Angles. This growth has now spawned a thriving committee and the continued and valued support of Sony Studios and our dedicated honorary chairs, Sherry Lansing, Phil Rosenthal, and Bill Chait. We enjoyed your participation last year and welcome you to become a part of finishing the fight against cancer. We are close and hope you will help us connect the dots to end this disease. California Spirit is turning 32 this year and we are planning a very fabulous party featuring the best restaurants, wineries, breweries and spirits in Los Angeles. Our auction is going to be incredibly diverse and unique. We are very excited to share all of the surprises we have in-store and can t wait for you to see what we ve been planning for the past year. 4 CALIFORNIA spirit SHERRY LANSING Honorary Chair During almost 30 years in the motion picture business, Sherry Lansing was involved in the production, marketing, and distribution of more than 200 films, including Academy Award winners Forrest Gump (1994), Braveheart (1995), and Titanic (1997). Throughout her film career, Lansing earned a reputation as a trailblazer, a visionary leader, and a creative filmmaker. In 1980, she became the first woman to head a major film studio when she was appointed President of 20th Century Fox. Later, as an independent producer, Lansing was responsible for such successful films as Fatal Attraction, The Accused, School Ties, Indecent Proposal, and Black Rain. Returning to the executive ranks in 1992, she was named Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures and began an unprecedented tenure that lasted more than 12 years ( ), during which the studio enjoyed enormous creative and financial success. The Sherry Lansing Foundation (SLF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to cancer research, health, public education, and encore career opportunities, was formed in Among the SLF s initiatives is the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, founded by Lansing to transition corporate professionals and military veterans into top quality California public school math and science teachers. Lansing is also a co-founder of the Stand Up To Cancer initiative, which funds collaborative, multi-institutional cancer research Dream Teams. In addition to serving on the University of California Board of Regents, Lansing is a trustee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, where she co-founded the Scholarship Fund for deserving Littles Sisters and Brothers. In December 2004, Lansing was appointed to the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine; she serves as the Cancer Patient Advocate, as well as Chair of the Governance Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the Scientific and Medical Accountability Standards Working Group. Lansing additionally serves on the boards of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems, the Carter Center, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the W.M. Keck Foundation, the Lasker Foundation, and the Pacific Council on International Policy. She is also Honorary Chair of STOP CAN- CER, a nonprofit philanthropic organization, which she founded in partnership with the late Dr. Armand Hammer. Lansing graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northwestern University in 1966.

5 CALIFORNIA spirit PHIL ROSENTHAL Honorary Chair Phil Rosenthal was born in Queens, raised in Rockland, N.Y., and attended Hofstra University on Long Island. Starting out as an actor in New York, Rosenthal also wrote and directed theater before relocating to Los Angeles. Rosenthal s early writing credits include the series Down the Shore and Coach. He was the creator/executive producer of the hit CBS comedy, Everybody Loves Raymond, staying with the show for its entire nine season run, beginning in l996. Everybody Loves Raymond was nominated for over 70 Emmy awards, and won 15 times, including for Best Comedy Series in 2003 and Rosenthal has the distinction of having directed President Bill Clinton in the White House Correspondents Dinner video, which was shown to wide acclaim at the April, 2000 event. He co-wrote America: A Tribute to Heroes, the 9/11 telethon which aired on all four networks, won a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing. Rosenthal won the 2002 Writers Guild Award for Excellence in Television Writing for his Everybody Loves Raymond script, Italy. He returned to his roots as an actor in the James Brooks feature film Spanglish, in which he played Adam Sandler s sous chef. He also appeared in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jake Kasdan s feature The TV Set, The Simpsons Movie, and starred in Funny or Die s Jewish James Bond as James Bond. Rosenthal is the author of You re Lucky You re Funny: How Life Becomes a Sitcom. His first feature for Sony Pictures: Exporting Raymond, which he wrote and directed the true story about the attempt to turn Everybody Loves Raymond into a Russian sitcom, was released in April of In 2014 Rosenthal participated in the Emmy nominated CNN documentary series, The Sixties and is the host of a new food and travel series for PBS: I ll Have What Phil s Having. Rosenthal lives in Los Angeles, with his wife, actress Monica Horan (who played Amy on Everybody Loves Raymond ), and their two children.

6 CALIFORNIA spirit BILL CHAIT Honorary Chair A native Angeleno, Bill Chait has been involved in the restaurant industry for more than 25 years during which time he has developed and operated several successful restaurant concepts. Bill is the founder of a multi-unit restaurant operation, Louise s Trattoria, with locations in Southern California, Wisconsin, Washington DC and Maryland. Chait s other restaurant concepts have included Angel City Grill, The Beverly Restaurant and Market and Louise s Italian Kitchen. In 2010, he created the nationally acclaimed LA pop-up restaurant Test Kitchen, which pioneered an exciting new concept in dining featuring world renowned guest chefs and budding culinary talent. The Test Kitchen Townhouse on Pico is now home to Picca and Sotto restaurants and a culinary outpost on the west side. Chait is the former Managing Partner of Sprout LA, a restaurant collaboration with leading chefs whose projects include restaurants such as Bestia with chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis, Petty Cash and Republique with Walter and Margarita Manzke, Otium with Chef Timothy Hollingsworth, Redbird with chef Neal Fraser and managing partner Amy Knoll, and The Rose with chef Jason Neroni. Chait and his restaurants have been featured in countless publications including, most recently, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Bon Appetit, Nation s Restaurant News, Sunset Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine and Bloomberg Financial.
