13 Lola M. Parker, Founder LOYALTY PLEDGE I will be loyal to the ideals of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and I will preserve the golden links of Friendship and Love which bind us all together. OUR CREED I believe in Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and in its ability to get results. I believe in working, not shirking; in boosting, not knocking; and the pleasurable contact with each other. I believe that one gets what he goes after, that one deed done today is worth two deeds done tomorrow; that no one is a failure until he has lost faith in himself. I do believe in today and the work that Iota Phi Lambda Sorority is doing; in tomorrow and the work that Iota Phi Lambda Sorority hopes to do; and in the sure reward that the future holds: I believe in LOYALTY, COURTESY, HONESTY, KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, GOOD CHEER, and FRIENDSHIP. PLEDGE OF SISTERHOOD I pledge myself to my Sorority, Iota Phi Lambda, to be true to its code, obey its rulings and keep faith with my sisters. I will keep silent as to the work and business of my Sorority; I will aid my sisters and their friends. I shall so live that my life will reflect credit upon my Sorority; to it, I will give my best; for it I will always live my best. I will live in unity and sisterly love with my fellowman, keeping the peace and goodwill of this chapter, and its Sister Chapters. Courage, Honesty, Work, Truth and Loyalty to these do I pledge myself. 24
14 FOUNDER S DAY SONG (tune: America the Beautiful) By Soror Marguerite E. Harvey Gamma Chapter 1971 How wonderful how beautiful Our Founders wise and true Who deemed the good of sisterhood Among us me and you. IOTA dear IOTA God keeps us strong and free Bless us we pray from day to day With Love and Charity How beautiful our fellowship Has grown so rich and rare Great Hopes and Dreams to realize With Love and Peace to share IOTA Dear IOTA Together we march on To brace the storm and face the sun Undaunted and untorn 25
15 SORORITY SONG Iota Phi Lambda We pledge that we shall be; Steadfast and True, in all we do To help humanity, Iota Phi Lambda Our Hopes and Aims are one; Friendship and Truth and Honesty, Will last till day is done. Iota Phi Lambda We proudly proclaim your name; Voices we raise, to sing your praise Long may your virtues reign; Iota Phi Lambda Your name shines near and far: We are inspired to reach the heights, Where souls immortal are. IOTA FAREWELL SONG (Tune Aloha) J. M. Gates Tis so sweet to greet our Sorors dear, That come from far and near. But then comes the time when we must part And say farewell to all those we love Farewell to thee, farewell to thee. Farewell dear sorors till another year Farewell to thee, farewell to thee Farewell till we meet again. 26
16 I AM IOTAN by Billie Glover I am an Iotan. I love my Sorority and its membership. I respect my officers and always keep in mind they are working for me. I don t downgrade them or harbor resentments. I constantly remind myself they have their problems too. I always try to give them love and understanding. I remember their deadline dates and honor their requests. I give them my loyalty at all times. I am an Iotan. I take pride in the work of my Sorority. I support its aims and applaud its purpose. I am an Iotan. I am a member of a truly professional organization. I am proud of my status in being a member I participate in all its programs and activities. I am special, for I belong to an outstanding Sorority. I ll make all the other members proud to have me. Printed in the 1975 issue of the Iota Journal 27
