4 MHSAA PRESIDENT STANLEY LIPFORD A Message from our President Without question Mitchell High School remains an exceptional institution of learning demonstrated by its current leadership and the accomplishments of its students. As graduates we should cherish the experiences during our tenure and actively support the efforts of the current administration. The task of public education in our community is a priority of need that can t be accomplished by government alone. The Mitchell High School Alumni Association was chartered to provide assistance and support for Mitchell High School and the Walker Homes Community. Since our inception we have provided scholarships and met other needs identified by the administration. We will continue to rise to a level of support and assistance that is worthy of the tradition of this icon. I consider it a blessing that the support, guidance, coaching, training and compassion shown to us by the teachers and staff while attending Mitchell, had the kind of impact on all if us that effectively shaped our adult lives. It is imperative that we insure that this legacy continues. To all graduates of Mitchell High School, this is A Call To Action! 13 Biography Of Kelvin M. Meeks Kelvin Meeks is a native Memphian. He attended Mitchell High School before enrolling at Southwest Tennessee Community College with a Major in Accounting and Information Technology. Later, he graduated from William Penn University in 1987 with a Bachelor s degree in Accounting. Kelvin Meeks continued his education by attending Union University and Freed Hardeman University where he graduated with a Master s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a certification in Supervision and Administration. Kelvin Meeks received extensive training in the technical arena as a Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW), CISCO Instructor, Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS), which included Word and Excel. A known advocate for children, Kelvin Meeks has successfully serviced students within the Memphis City School System for more than fifteen years as both, a teacher and principal. He is currently serving as the principal at Mitchell High School, where he is also an alumnus. Given Kelvin Meek s background, training and experience, he has proven to be well suited for this Digital Mecca, (Mitchell High School), which became a digital school in Prior to accepting this great challenge at Mitchell High School, Kelvin Meeks was instrumental in implementing and successfully leading one of Memphis City Schools first Prep Schools. He exhibited remarkable skills in the areas of planning and developing alternative ways to successfully educate students, while meeting their social and behavioral needs. For the past twenty six years, Kelvin Meeks has played an intricate role in protecting his country. He is a retired Staff Sergeant with the United States Army Reserves. He was responsible for creating and implementing an Army Educational Training Program, securing valuable equipment, and providing leadership training for other military personnel.

14 Dear Fellow Alumni: We need your support in building a stronger alumni base for Mitchell High School. We are asking you to join the Mitchell High School Alumni Association to give financial support, but mostly to have a voice in the continuous support of it s enrichment to the school. We must stand up to the challenge. We can do more together than we can alone. Please join us in this membership effort. The Mitchell High School Alumni Association, Inc. (MHSAA) is chartered by the State of Tennessee and welcomes all classes. Membership is available to graduates, former students, family members, faculty and staff of Mitchell High School. The two categories of membership are: Lifetime $300 (to be paid within one year) Contributing $50 (paid annually) PURPOSE: The purpose of MHSAA is to support Mitchell High School programs and activities, the Alumni Association and the school community.
