2 This will be the last newsle er for How quickly this year seems to have past us by. A school is a very busy place and fi ng in all that is required by DET is an ongoing challenge. We are very conscious of the needs of all students in our school and thank the parents who have worked closely with us to support their children and the school. I would like to thank my amazing staff who are so suppor ve of the students, their families, each other and myself. For our families that have only been involved at Yea PS this does not always occur and we are extremely fortunate that our staff is so cohesive. At transi on on Tuesday, we welcomed Grace Muir to our team who will be teaching Prep/One with Sal Phillips. As a staff, we are looking forward to new grades for many teachers and four dis nct teams P/1, 2, 3/4 and 5/6. Grade 5/6 Personal Development It is important that our students have an understanding of the changes that occur as they grow so they are prepared and well informed. Natasha Ward spent me last week with all Grade 5/6 students and discussed many aspects about growing up. It is not an easy discussion to have and we are so fortunate to have Natasha who can speak from a medical and parental perspec ve. Transi on Day We have 23 kinder students beginning their school life in 2018 and other students in various grade levels who have recently moved to Yea. We warmly welcomed them all on Tuesday and were very proud of how well they fi ed into the rou nes of our school. The Grade 6 students enjoyed another day at Yea High and St Marys in Seymour. Gradua on Dinner All Grade six students and their families have been invited to a end the Gradua on Dinner on Wednesday at Beaufort Manor in Yea. Even though on sick leave Mrs U has been preparing a running sheet for the night that will be a wonderful celebra on of the students seven years at school. School Council The last mee ng for 2017 will be held at school on Monday 18 th December at 6pm. This mee ng will be followed by a meal. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all School Councillors and Amanda Jolly our President for their support throughout the year. There will be vacancies on the 2018 School Council and I urge parents to consider joining this commi ee. Volunteers Morning Tea All parents and grandparents who have supported the school in any way are invited to a end morning tea on Tuesday 19 th December in the staff room at 11am. Thank you to all that have supported the school this year. You are valued and very much appreciated. Yea, It s the Circus On Wednesday evening 20 th December, we will all enjoy the produc on at the hall. As always Sal and her band of helpers have put a huge amount of effort into ge ng the show organised. The students have been learning their lines, Lauren, and Shay have painted a beau ful circus backdrop this week. It will be a wonderful night. The last day of Term is Friday 22 nd December and students will be dismissed at 1.30pm before lunch. Students are expected at school for Term on Tuesday the 30 th January. I wish all our families a happy and res ul break and look forward to working with you all in Thanks, Deb Issue No 37 Page 2 13th December 2017

5 Market Fresh Last Thursday students in grades 2-6 enjoyed a presentation from Market Fresh Schools Program. The program covers the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day as part of a healthy balanced diet and how fresh fruits and vegetables are grown, harvested and an overview of the supply chain in the Australian fresh produce industry. Students got to taste test an assortment of fruit and vegetables sourced from the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit, Vegetable & Flower Market. Some student tasted things that they had never tried and they were quite surprised that they enjoyed things like raw asparagus in fresh avocado dip. Thank you to parents Bek, Kerry and Cindy who helped cut up and serve all of the fruit and veggies for the program. The funding to host this program came from the Murrindindi Shire and their Walk to School program designed to encourage healthy lifestyles in our shire. Big thanks to Kay Granter for the stupendous gingerbread house!! Issue No 37 Page 6 Making yummy Rice Paper Rolls for Lunch Club 13th December 2017
6 Mural making with Yea Primary with Aviva Reed Yea Wetlands as a mural was created by Yea Primary in Term 4, In collabora*on with visual ecologist, Aviva Reed, the students at Yea Primary learnt about the way energy moves around the wetlands. We explored food webs and focused on the microbes living in the wetlands that are a major source of food for many animals in the wetland. We also explored the role of the wetland in the larger landscape, as a sink of nutrients and a refuge in summer. All students all added to the mural, through adding microbes to show the abundance and diversity of invisible but important life living in the wetlands. A small team of enthusiasts then co- created the composi*on and added macro life to the wetland scene. The process was an art / science adventure into the ecology of Yea Wetlands.
