1 Harvest 2017 Year 3 and 4 Script Welcome to our Year 3 and 4 Harvest Production I can t believe that it has come around again so quickly! Maybe we should start as we mean to go on and sing a song. What do you think? I think that s a good idea! During the Summer Holiday I learned how to samba. [Show a little dance] I think this will be a good one to get us started! SONG Harvest Samba Matthew Milo Let us take you to a day at Hoylandswaine Primary School where the children are on their way to school. I wonder what we re doing in school today. Well if you remember, Mr Bond mentioned that we d be talking about food and linking it to our Science work. Ah yes, I remember. [Conker hits Lucy on the head] Lucy Aimee Lucy Matthew Milo Lucy Ow! [Start to rub head after conker been thrown] What s wrong? Somethings just hit me on the head! Ah, maybe it s this! [Pick up the conker] Well you know what season it is Autumn! That s right, the season when the conkers start to fall from the trees and the crops have been harvested! Well it looks like that conker did more good than bad!

2 All I m glad that no conkers have hit me on the head! Maybe it would have done you some good as well! Cheeky! That reminds me of another song! Oh no, not another! Don t worry you ll like this one. It s called CONKERS! SONG Conkers [Stay standing at the end] All Amelie Harry P I told you you d like that one! We ll see as I am sure you ll have more up your sleeve. Well I might have, but anyway, back to Hoylandswaine. The children are now in assembly where we join Mr Bond. Good morning everybody. Good morning everyone! Please sit down Today s assembly is all about Harvest. Why does harvest happen in the autumn? [Children put hands up] Amelie. It s the time of year when the farmers have harvested all the crops. Well done Amelie. So, today is our Harvest Performance last week we went to a Harvest Festival at the Church. What is a Harvest Festival? Harry. It s a celebration of the food grown on the land. Well done Harry.

3 Unfortunately there are some countries where they don t have a good harvest and have a lack of food. Let s listen to how this affects them and how we might be able to help them. SONG The Harvest of Love [Sung by Olivia, Holly and All] Ava S Reese Vinnie Reese Jack George P Vinnie Roxy It s a shame that not all children get the same luxuries that we do. I know, but bringing food to the Harvest Festival has raised money for some of the people who struggle to get food, which is great! As long as we all play our part and help, which we do, it will hopefully make our world a better place. Indeed it will. Anyway, back to the performance, the children have approached one of their favourite times of the day It s playtime! All this talk of Harvest has made me think what the crops need to grow. Well thinking back to our Science lessons, they need light, water and nutrients from the soil. And seed to grow the crop! Of course how could I forget! We need to be thankful for the food we have and also to all the people that make it possible, such as the farmers who grow and harvest the crop. All this talk of food is making me hungry. Is it lunchtime yet? No, but one hour to go and we can eat and talk more about food then! George, where is your coat? Remember I told you to wear a coat being Scottish I am used to having the 4 seasons in one day just like to microclimate in Hoylandswaine! OK Mrs Gallagher, I ll go and fetch it. Jack [Look up to the sky] It s nice to see that the sun is shining, even if for 10 minutes.

4 Hey guess what? Do I need to guess? I have another song! Let me guess about the sun? Yes! So get your jazz hands ready and here it is SONG Super Sun Charlotte S Olivia Sienna Olivia Sienna Thank you for that one. Don t worry I have 4 more left up my sleeve! I can t wait! Back to it. Its lunchtime and the children look like they ve worked hard and are ready for some good wholesome food. [Ring Bell] Class 3 and 4 dinners please! I can t wait. I love the healthy food that Mrs Thornton makes us. Did I tell you about going to the Supermarket last week? No, but I am sure you re going to enlighten me Indeed I am! SONG Food Colours [Sung by Olivia, Sienna and All] When I go to Tesco s (there are other reputable supermarket chains out there) I am going to see if I can find any black or blue vegetables and fruit. Trust you! I can think of some already but I ll let you see what you can find! Moving on, it s now afternoon play I heard Olivia and Sienna talking about the Supermarket at lunchtime. I find it to be quite boring, my Mum drags me around, when I could be at home doing my homework. Doing your homework?

5 Just kidding! Even though Mr Bond, Miss Birkinshaw and Mrs Gallagher set us some smashing homework, I d rather be at home watching TV or chilling in my room. Going to the Supermarket can be quite good fun you know! Really? Yes, I like to see the different foods that we put in our trolley and to think what we might have for meals throughout the week. Maybe I should take more notice the next time I go. Maybe you should My parents also like to make sure we buy organic and Fair Trade food. Am I right in thinking that organic means it s all naturally produced and Fair Trade ensures that farmers get a better deal? That s right. Now let me think [scratches head] what did we have in our trolley last week SONG In My Trolley Isabel Bobby A song that you didn t introduce! I know. Never mind I ll let them off this once. Well it s getting towards the end of the school day. I know and I have 2 songs left. I wonder how Mr Bond will write these in this script with only home time left to go? I m sure he will! [Look at watch] he s managed to make it less than 40 minutes so far! OK, let s beat the clock. It s the end of the day. Well it s been a good day today. All this talk about food has made me really think. Not just about the food that we eat, but where it comes from and who s involved in getting it to us. I know and if it wasn t for all the people around the world working together, we may not even be able to eat some of the food we do now or even know what it looks like.
