Amy was a secretary and George was the office boy. Then the war started and George went into the army. Amy didn t see him again for the next fifteen years. 2 Before the war finished, Amy s parents went to live in another part of the country and Amy went with them. She wrote letters to George but she didn t get any letters from him. She was very sad and she thought he didn t love her any more. But Amy was wrong. When the war ended, George looked for Amy at his old office but she wasn t there. 2

One day a nurse telephoned from the hospital. Hello, she said. Can I speak to the doctor? George was very excited because he knew the voice. It was Amy. 3
