2 Year DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS BRIEF & MARKING SCHEDULES This guide is provided to inform both parents and students alike on the nature and expectations of the course. This book will offer guidance, information, direction, and accurate record keeping and should be with your work at all times as a reference. PATRICKS COLLEGE INFLUENTIAL DESIGNER MARK SCHEDULE Title Use the work of an influential designer to inform own design ideas Design and visual com For your first project you will complete some research into designers and look at their works. This will contribute to your overall project and influence the design of your special/product. The elements of their work is what you are looking out for so to incorporate. Define these key words: Aesthetics Function Form From the list below: 1. Select 3 designers from the list below. Find a photo of the designer and minimum of two different images of a significant work of each one. 2. A basic description identifying elements (key features) of their work. 3. Use aesthetics, function and Materials terms to describe the work of each image. Aim for a paragraph with full sentences. Add these to your list! Revision: By now you have done a visual image searching of the designers based on images, you also have created a Title Page in Word, Photoshop or even Power point. You have chosen THREE or maybe even FOUR Designers that you like the look of. For each of them you have a separate page, and on each is a portrait, their full name, three images and a few reasons why you like their various works. Next Steps: Now lets find out about their life in the form of a bibliography. Where were they born, Married, studied important advances in their lives etc. this work is done in two or three columns and is in 9 point. Why, because when printed it is going to be in A3. Next TWO sheet have two different images on each, with a lot of white space to draw upon. Here you draw the elements that you are going to use in your designs.
4 Leave these sheets for now, check sheets are all correct, well presented and of a good standard. Check with the teacher, when okay you can print in Landscape in A4 Design any public shelter and using the elements of the designer of your choice intergrate them with your ideas to create unique design. Draw your final design in freehand and instrumental using rendering with colour tones. Annotate your final designs showing aesthetics, function and form

6 PROJECT ONE: PUBLIC SHELTER - Design Brief - YEAR 10 OPTION 2017 Situation / āhuatanga: Many students use busses as the means of transport to travel to and from school. Busses leave in the afternoon at staggered times due to sport and cultural commitments. This can mean waiting in all types of weather. The school has decided to build a public shelter that is practical, not a rectangular box and designed for all weather. Design Specifications / Hoa whakatakoranga: Your final design must incorporate your name and logo bottom right corner of each page be of a modern design and also complement its surroundings. be made from durable and hard wearing materials. meet the needs of the pupils who will have to make use of this new facility show a series of 2D & 3D drawings showing this bus shelter. 1. Investigation / tirohanga Find examples of contemporary and modern low cost and functional spacial shelters, look at what they offer and consider the floor plans Write a list of at least three features you want to include in your design. Draw some pictures of these designs and how they relate to your bus shelter. 2. Concepts / ariā. At least five ideas and concepts for your spacial shelter showing various floor plans, isometric and oblique drawings. Each sketch is to be supported with written notes describing how the idea meets the specifications written above. 3. Development / tupunga. Choose your two favourite ideas or concepts (stating your reasons) and develop further. [Remember: development is the process of improving, modifying, refining, considering colour and size, of your chosen idea.] Do several different development drawings for both concepts. 4. Presentation - Final One A3 sheets in Landscape present your final designs Drawings in planometric, isometric oblique and two point perspectives. They must be the same size and drawn accurately to scale. A3 sheet of presentation drawings of your final design. A model done to scale is to be constructed, can be in SketchUp. 5. Evaluation Answer the questions on the evaluation sheet to describe and explain your design. This relates your design to the situation and specifications shown above. Work to be handed in In your visual Diary: Small photocopies of ideas glued in with sketches. Sketches and notes on initial ideas and development of your best ideas. Other hobbies and other activities are thus not well done due to where students have to work. We are going to do something positive about it. Design our own work station table! You have been tasked with designing in a small Retirement Cottage to rest on a plot of land. The eventual shape of the house, the lanscaping as well as indoor outdoor flow is a consideration as well as thinking about the environment.
