1 YEAR 9 Art Term 1 Name:... Teacher:... Homework Booklet Over the next term you will complete a range of tasks at home Details of each task can be found in this booklet, clearly labelled weeks 1-12, plus tasks to complete over the Christmas break. Work must be handed in on time each week and presented neatly. It is your responsibility to keep this booklet safe. If you lose it you must pay to print another, photocopy someone else s or write up the tasks by looking at a friend s. It will not be accepted as an excuse for not handing in your work. 1
2 Term 1 First Half Term Week 1 = All of the work that you complete in art will link to and artist, art movement or culture. This links to assessment objective number 1 (A01). Your task is to research the artist DAVID LOZEAU. Find out the answers to the questions: 1. When was he born? 2. Where is he from? 3. What education/jobs did he have? 4. What kind of artwork did he create? 5. What was the subject of his artwork? 6. What is your opinion of his work? (see page 7 & 8 for some help on this). You can handwrite or type up the answers. The information you gather will be presented creatively at a later date. Week 2 = Collect and print examples of LOZEAU S work. Select AT LEAST 8 images. The images should be printed 4 to an A4 page. Week 3&4 = Select a piece of LOZEAU S work. You are going to analyse his artwork. Write/type your analysis on a separate piece of paper (see page 7 & 8 for some help on this). Week 5 & 6 = You will have been given a sketch book, this is your Sketching Diary. Your task for the next 2 weeks is to select a natural object and spend at least 1 hour drawing it. You should aim to create an accurate copy using tone. Things that you could draw: Flower, leaf, petal, tree, stone, acorn, shell, apple, orange, pear, pineapple, pepper, chilli, mushroom... Fill the page and TAKE YOUR TIME! I expect good quality work. If it is clear that you have not spent at least 1 hour on the drawing you will be expected to complete the task again. You can had write or type up the answers. The information you gather will be presented creatively at a later date. Week 8 = Collect and print examples of POSADA S work. Select AT LEAST 8 images. The images should be printed 4 to an A4 page. Week 9 = Select a piece of POSADA S work. You are going to analyse his artwork. Write/ type your analysis on a separate piece of paper (see page 7 & 8 for some help on this). Week = Sketching Diary - Your task for the next 2 weeks is to select a COLOURFUL natural object and spend at least 1 hour drawing it. You should aim to create an accurate copy. Fill the page and TAKE YOUR TIME! Apply colour using colouring pencils. I expect good quality work. If it is clear that you have not spent at least 1 hour on the drawing you will be expected to complete the task again. See example on the next page... 4

The images should be printed 4 to an A4 page. Task 3 = Select one of O Keeffe s SKULL paintings. Reproduce this on A5 paper (paper is available from me) using a normal pencil. Take your time...you should aim to create an accurate copy using tone. If it is clear that you have not spent at least 1 hour on the drawing you will be expected to complete the task again. 6
7 Writing About Art In GCSE art you are expected to discuss the work of a range of artists and give your opinion on their work. The following guide sheet will help you do this. Try to answer as many questions as possible and write in full sentences. Use the writing frame and hints and tips boxes below to make sure your writing about art work is well informed, insightful and intelligent!!! Writing Frame Content The work is called.. and is by the artist. It was created in (date).. Things to think about What do you think the picture is about? Do any of the objects or things included in the picture have any special meaning or symbolism? The picture shows Do you think the artist trying to make you think about something? I can see Form The main feature of the picture is.. and this is placed in the frame. The main colours are.. What is the main feature of the picture? How has the different parts of the picture been arranged? There is lots/little.. detail Are your eyes drawn to anything or things in particular? Process I think the ideas for this piece came from. What did the artist do to make this picture? The materials that the artist used were Where do you think they got their ideas from? Your response When I look at this work I feel The thing I think is interesting about the work is. I like the way the artist has used. It reminds me of Describe how the picture affects you when you look at it? What do you think it is about the picture that makes you feel this? Is it the colour, the view, the subject? The arrangement? Does it remind you of anything? Turn over for hints and tips... 7
8 Hints and Tips You could use the following three steps to help you write a flowing paragraph about the artwork you are looking at: -describe use lots of interesting words to say what it looks like how it s arranged. -explain what you think the picture is all about what effects are created and how. What do you think of it and why. -compare to your own work, to other artists you ve looked at this is the bit where you can really show you can think about artwork. Remember to always say why you think something. BEWARE!!!!... Avoid the use of this, or similar, phrases I like this artwork because it is very effective. This does not mean anything!!!! Be specific e.g. I feel this painting has a positive mood to it because of the bright colours and bold shapes that the artist has used. There are many things happening within the image which I believe helps to create a lively and exciting atmosphere. Vocabulary to use: Line, Tone, Colour, Texture, Pattern, Form, Space, Shape, Subject, Theme, Content, Composition, Layout, Focal Point, Foreground, Background, Scale, Perspective, Light, Shade, Style, Technique, Abstract, Realistic, Mood, Atmosphere, Contrast, Complementary, Harmonious, Dull, Vibrant, Lively, Detail, Depth, Balance, Structure, Purpose, Materials, Media, Peaceful, Relaxed, Convey, Subtle, Subdued, Exciting, Influenced, Inspired. 8
