1 Homework Project (expected time taken per week is two hours - 4 hours effort total) Subject: Expressive Arts - Art Year group: 8 Student: Teacher: Start date: week beginning 3 rd Deadline: Friday 14 th October 2016 October 2016 Lemon Lilac Green Hand in procedure: Give your booklet and artwork to your Expressive Arts teacher Help sessions available: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes in XL4, XL5 & XL6 Topic: Title: Portraits in cartoon style. Analysing and responding to the style of Artist s work. Learning objectives: Skills included: 7C To research and analyse the work of known artists. To explore creating work in a cartoon style. To evaluate your work and that of others. Research, analysis, creative thinking and the ability to evaluate. Higher order thinking. Independent learning. Drawing, painting, mixed media. Creativity Communication Commitment Tasks: (tick once completed) Task 1- Front cover Task 2- Collage of researched images Task 3- Artist research and biography Task 4- Collect artist images and analyse them. Task 5- Plan and create your own artwork inspired by the artist s paintings. Task 6- Evaluation Extension tasks: 1. All artists sketch and plan before they begin a big piece of work, you should use your sketchbook to draw, paint or write down any initial ideas, plans or thoughts on artwork before creating your final piece to be handed in with your project. 2. Produce artist research pages or fact files in your sketchbook to visually show their work. These pages should include pictures, annotations of their work and plenty of your own opinions and thoughts about their work and style.

2 Challenge: Bright spark tasks include- A timeline activity, a complete the picture drawing task, making your final piece have a narrative or storyline, extended writing evaluation. Resources: School website resources included:- Art club info:- Booklet Art club ICT equipment (can be booked through your expressive arts teacher and used during art clubs) You will need: Pencils, rubbers, paints, papers, internet access. You can attend Art Club in XL4, XL5 or XL6 at lunchtimes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can use the art equipment in school to produce your work, particularly your final piece. These are valuable learning opportunities where Art teachers can help you and offer advice. 4 Task 1- Produce a front cover for your project. Draw a cartoon version of yourself with a speech bubble introducing your project. Include the following: Your name and form Your Expressive Arts group Your Art teachers name Task 2- Collect comic book style images from magazines, newspapers and the internet, comics and comic strips. Your examples should include both images and text. Create an A4 collage of the pictures you have collected on a separate piece of paper. Top tip: Select good quality images and cut them out neatly. -Create a timeline of comic book strips. I.e. the history of the style. Task 3- Research the artist Roy Lichtenstein, and then answer the following questions. a) What country was he from? b) When was he born? c) What did he make his artwork about? Task 4- Now research and print out at least 2 good quality images of Roy Lichtenstein s artwork. Glue them onto the next page. Answer the following questions about your chosen images. Use extra paper if you need to. d) What materials and techniques did he use to create his artwork? e) What can you see in his pictures? f) What I like about Roy Lichtenstein s pictures is What I don t like about Roy Lichtenstein s pictures is.

5 Glue your Roy Lichtenstein pictures here (task 4) Find the full version of this picture; then draw the picture to show all the details and colours.

6 Task 5. Main task- The Final Piece a) Find a picture of someone you like. It could be a picture of a famous person, footballer, musician, actor/actress or member of your family. b) Draw a picture of the person you have chosen in the style of Roy Lichtenstein. This is the final piece of your project and should take you the most amount of time and effort. You may want to add a speech or thought bubble like the example below! c) Use this mind map to help you to plan out your artwork. Make a series of artworks that link together to create a narrative or storyline. The main colours I am going to use Person/people I am going to draw. Art materials I am going to use. What other details can I include? What types of lines, pattern and shapes will I use? Top tip: Look carefully at the shapes, patterns and colours Lichtenstein uses and try to recreate them in your artwork.
