Workshops [CM Workshop] NCDOT Corridor Modeler (CM) Delta Training (3 Day) [SS2] Oak Thammavong, NCDOT Creating & Customizing templates presented by NCDOT, Oak Thammavong. The Advanced OpenRoads Technology Delta Training Series was created to prepare NCDOT as technology and design software packages will continue to evolve. The workshop is designed for the intermediate to advanced Roadway Corridor Modeler user. Firms who have NCDOT Corridor Modeling projects and Engineers who are up to date with NCDOT Roadway Design standards and business practices should benefit from this type of exclusive training. This workshop will take all 3 days of training. [Workshop 11] Quick Start Geometry [SS3] Ray Filipiak, Bentley This hands-on training teaches how to create roadway geometry and work with the heads-up display and element manipulators that are part of the OpenRoads Technology. Centerline geometry is created using both PI and element methods. Edge of pavement geometry is created as offset geometry from the centerline. Design Standards are used to validate compliance of the geometry. [Workshop 12] Using & Modifying Templates [SS3] Bob Rolle, Bentley This hands-on training teaches how to efficiently modify and use existing templates, such as those delivered in the Bentley Civil Workspace, for your project situations. You will learn how to manage template libraries and edit templates to satisfy project specifications including editing pavement widths, pavement slopes, and end condition (cut/fill) treatments. You will also learn how to replace entire sections of templates with alternate components such as adding curb & gutter to a template.
Workshops [Workshop 21] Geo-coordination in a Civil Project [SS3] Kevin Jackson, Bentley Integrating geospatial data from multiple sources is labor-intensive and error-prone which can result in misalignment and out-of-context information. Reduce the risk of errors on site arising from poorly Geo- Coordination data that enables civil designers to work naturally, and improve information coordination. Civil engineers typically view the world in terms of state plane or local plane coordinate systems. Georeferencing in a civil design project allows geometry to be located within a common reference such as a State Plane Coordinate System (SPCS). This provides a definition of an exact physical location of an object on the surface of the earth. Use of georeferencing further extends the ability to incorporate additional information such as geographic data within the project. Master the ability to apply MicroStation's intrinsic Geo-Coordination features to spatially reference your design geometry within a geodetic referencing system. [Workshop 22] Hydraulics Products for Beginners [SS3] Angela Suarez, Bentley This hands-on workshop is designed for engineers who have not yet used Bentley's hydraulic and hydrology modeling products. Learn basic navigation of the software interface and key tools to efficiently set up and analyze a model. [Workshop 31] Create 2D Plans Preparation from 3D Geometry [SS3] Ray Filipiak, Bentley Save time while learning to master 3D modeling and get results sooner. Do you have a need to show the same geometry and details in several views and currently draw them independent of one another? Discover many of the workflows used to produce basic 3D models comprised of Solids, Surfaces and Meshes. Discover basic 3D navigation and see how to easily create 2D plans from those models. Creating 3D models, generating 2D drawings and details, ensure that that you see enough detail to determine if it can be built. Design time is decreased saving you time, money and costly mistakes. Come and see how changes in your design are replicated automatically to the section, elevation or detail. Learn how to place callouts on the 3D model making it more reliable, effective, and valuable providing a clearer picture of the design.
Workshops [Workshop 32] Quick Start: Corridor and Intersection Modeling [SS3] Mike Barkasi, Bentley This hands-on training teaches how to model the roadway corridor and intersection using an existing two lane urban typical section with curb and cutter and sidewalk. The pavement width is controlled by edge of pavement geometry. A T intersection complete with curb returns and side slopes is modeled using a civil cell.
[Lecture 11] Configurations, DGNLibs, and Workspaces: Putting It All Together [SS3] Bob Rolle, Bentley MicroStation's workspaces provide a powerful, yet flexible environment for delivering CAD standards. They allow for easier, faster updates of those standards and provide consistency between drawings. A properly deployed workspace will benefit the entire organization by centralizing resources and delivering them to project participants. Making standards easy to follow saves time and money by providing standardization within project workflows. A workspace consists of configurations to control how, when, and to whom resources are available. Key topics covered will include workspaces, configurations, and standards. [Lecture 12] Developing CAD Resources with the DGNLib [SS3] Kevin Jackson, Bentley Learn to centralize this shared resource across your organization and make your job of maintaining and deploying standards much easier. This benefits your users by creating a hassle free environment adhering to your organizations design practices and standards. Master the design and management of the design library file (DGNLIB). The DGNLIB contains important CAD Standards such as level definitions; render setups, clash detection settings, line styles, filters, cells, interface customization, text styles, element templates, dimension styles, and many more. [Lecture 13] Incorporate Project Explorer Into Everything You Do [SS3] Mike Barkasi, Bentley Explore more interactively resulting in higher quality of designs through improved coordination of project data. When you are working on a project, you work with many files, designs and models. Have you ever been irked when you have to flip through many of these files to get to the right model, and correct view? Wouldn't it be useful to have something simple that helps you do some organization? Project Explorer can become a central resource to organize your data. It provides users with hierarchical links to project data such as DGN and DWG files, models, references, and saved views PDFs, Microsoft Office documents and other supporting data can be linked. Think of Project Explorer as a hyper-linked table of contents to project data. In this session, users learn how to browse file contents and index DGN files for quick discovery of data and related information using Project Explorer.
[Lecture 14] Setting Up SS3 Workspaces [SS3] Ray Filipiak, Bentley 2014 NCLUG Summer Conference Workspaces are the foundation to the OpenRoads technology.
