6 Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS) - Digital Signature Rules - Chapter 1, 105 Definitions; page 3: Signature handwritten or digital as follows: b. a digital signature which is an electronic authentication process attached to or logically associated with an electronic document. The digital signature must be: i. unique to the person using it; ii. capable of verification; iii. under the sole control of the person using it; iv. linked to a document in such a manner that the digital it signature is invalidated d if any data in the document is changed

7 LAPELS Digital Signature Rules Chapter 27, 2701 Use of Seals; page 24: 5. Electronic Transmission a. Drawings, specifications, plans, reports or other documents which h require a seal may be transmitted electronically provided the seal, signature and date of the licensee is transmitted in a secure mode that precludes the seal, signature and date being produced or modified. Drawings, reports or documents which are signed using a digital signature as defined in the rules shall contain the authentication procedure and a list of the hardware, software, and parameters used to prepare the document(s).

8 ApproveIt Signature Verification epersona information Public information includes a secured image of the person's handwritten signature, user profile information, digital certificate and a unique public key Private portion contains information that is only known or available to the signer, such as a unique, private password and private key. Can use a Trusted Person or other Certificate Authority Location of epersona file is controlled by signer. (e.g. Computer Desktop, Laptop or flash drive). The epersona can only be accessed upon entering the private password

9 ApproveIt Signature Verification Trusted Person as Signature Authority Acts as the certifying authority for the user epersonas. Signature is invalid unless accompanied by the Certifying Authority s certificate. Collects and maintains identification information for epersona holders on a signed request form that includes images of photo ID, seal and signature. The Trusted Person must also sign the form to verify receipt of this information.
