We will discuss the settings and styles that help to automate the plotting of your projects, whether they include plans, profiles, cross sections, or a combination of these sheet sets. We will also examine the necessary settings required for your drawing templates to make the plotting process a breeze. In addition, we will cover some of the AutoCAD software plotting functionality that you can capitalize on. 2 Plan and Profile There are many Civil 3D and AutoCAD settings and styles that you need to understand prior to plotting your plan and profile sheets. In this section, we will break it down. Civil 3D Setup In Civil 3D, you need to setup your drawing or drawing template to apply the correct settings and styles. Settings and Styles Styles and settings will need to be developed for plotting plan, and plan and profile sheets. The settings tab is where some of the setup is done related to plotting plan and profile sheets. The following settings will need to be looked at. Profile Views View Frame Groups View Frame o Styles Match Line o Styles 2

3 AutoCAD Setup There are many standard AutoCAD settings that will need to be addressed. Below is a list of some of the AutoCAD setup that you will need to look at. Template Files In the template, you will need to setup sheets with the correct viewport scale as well as page setups. Also, Civil 3D leverages Sheet Set Manger functionality, and you will need to define attributes to automate titleblock population. There is also a special viewport setting that enables Civil 3D to identify the type of viewport it is. The settings are Plan, Profile, or Undefined. TIP: The north arrow block must exist in the title block. 3

4 Sheet Set File Setup a template.dst file that has appropriate sheet set fields to automate population in title block. The default DST file should contain project properties and additional project specific plotting settings. The following is a workflow for creating sheets. Creating Sheets Create View Frames (VF) Output Tab > Plan Production Panel > Create View Frames o Create View Frames Wizard o Choose Alignment o Choose Sheets (i.e. drawing template, etc.) o VF Group Settings o Match Line Settings o INITIAL Profile View Settings The VF s will be created in the current file 4

5 Create Sheets Output Tab > Plan Production Panel > Create Sheets o Create Sheets Wizard o Choose layout options o Choose existing sheet set file, or create new o Profile View Settings (recommended to edit now) o Data References The file you are in will get referenced into the sheets automatically. If you need to add more references, you can do so afterwards. 5

6 Editing Sheets The Create Sheets wizard will get your sheets 85% completed. You will then need to manually edit some portions. For example, you may need to adjust profile views, and profile view bands. To edit sheets, use tools in sheet set manager to manipulate sheets (e.g. numbering, naming, etc.) 6

7 Plotting Use tools in sheet set manager to publish or plot sheets. TIP: Regarding the match line hatching area, be aware. You may need to manipulate the reference layer color to slightly off-white (254,254,254) for it to plot white, and not black 7

8 Cross Sections Civil 3D Setup There are many Civil 3D and AutoCAD settings and styles that you need to understand prior to plotting your cross section sheets. In this section, we will break it down. Settings and Styles The settings tab is where some of the setup is done related to plotting cross section sheets. The following settings will need to be looked at. Settings tab o Section Views Section Styles o Styles Code Set Style o Styles Group Plot Styles 8

Then, you need to reference in the file that the corridor and existing surface is located in, and the sample line group can be setup to sample those sources automatically. 10 Editing Sheets Editing Create Section Sheets command will get your sheets 95% completed, however you may need to adjust the layout views Plotting Named Page Setup gets copied from drawing template automatically use tools in sheet set manager to publish or plot sheets. 10
