2 Spring 2018/Summer 2018 Miniature Display at the Marple Public Library in Broomall, PA By Susan Sharratt The members of the Startin' Small and Ladies of Adventure miniature clubs were preparing to display our minis in the Marple Public Library in Broomall, PA. This is the third time we have displayed there and we were happy to reserve the month of October- National Miniatures Month. But how to come up with a fresh way to set up our display? We realized that most of us made a "mini" that's the same as another hobby we enjoy in full size. So Bill will contribute a "mini" stained glass conservatory, next to the tools he uses in full size. Toni and Susan have "mini" quilt shops in addition to life size quilts. Paula's tiny teapot will be along side one of her favorite full size teapots. Ann's "mini" workshop is next to a full size lathe and several small wood items she has made. Other club members contributed their items side by side with life size counterparts, both showing a single theme. A sign explains that we have hobbies that we also make in miniature. We hope library patrons understand that your hobby can be enjoyed in miniature as well as full size. M-1 Newsletter 2

3 The World of Fairy Gardens By Carol Reynolds Past President, C-634 C.A.T.T. members had a lot of fun working on their exhibit for the Ballston Women's Club Festival of Trees held the first weekend in December. Our theme was "The World of Fairy Gardens". We made three sizes of fairies. Starting with the smallest fairies, we used directions found in the Miniature Gazette from an article on the children's workshop in Seattle. Then we used directions found in Pinterest for a medium and large size fairies. Other than buying wooden heads and wire, we had fun going through silk flowers, beads, lace, embroidery floss, etc that members brought in. Creativity flowed through the group. In addition we used beaded dragonflies and butterflies purchased at craft stores. The tree was one of our most colorful and spectacular trees we've done over the past 11 years. We had a delicious Christmas lunch at 24 Garden Bistro. All but one member was able to attend. We had a wonderful time just relaxing and catching up on our family news and our holiday get togethers. Our winter schedule is reduced to one meeting a month depending upon the weather. (While snowbirds are gone.) We will continue working on the first of three dollhouses For Children Battling Cancer from January through March. While Peg Kniskern kept the dollhouse at her home, she continued painting and wallpapering the dollhouse while we worked on our fairy gardens. Now we will do the finishing work like flooring, trim, and furnishings. In April and May we will be working on the Crafting Hutch/Cabinets sold by NAME from the Sacramento Houseparty. Members have purchased 1" and 1/4" kits made by Ruth Stewart. They will be our display for next year's Festival of Trees. We feel energized after our fun Fall projects and looking forward to the Spring meetings. M-1 Newsletter 3
