1 Beadweaving for Beginners and Improvers FM O April Fri - Sun Sole occupancy cost Shared occupancy cost Non-Residential cost The location of many of John Constable s paintings, Flatford Mill runs over 120 Natural History and Arts courses in a unique and tranquil learning environment. Course Overview Beadweaving is the ancient art of creating jewellery and decorative objects with nothing more than needle, thread and beads. This weekend will be suitable for those who are new to the craft and those with some experience. Complete beginners can expect to go home with some finished pieces and the knowledge to create more. Course Description Over the course of this weekend there will be a variety of projects for you to work on depending on your level of skill. For those who have some experience you will be able to take your skills further by learning a new stitch or taking a technique further than you have before. If your experience is more towards the Advanced you will be encouraged to creat your own designs.

3 About the Tutor Claire began beadweaving around 20 years ago when she was signed up to an evening class by her sister-in-law for one evening a week. Due to family commitments she could only go to those classes for one year, however the beads had bitten and she continued to learn through friends and books. No such thing as you tube back then! She became a member of the Bead Society and shortly after that The Beadworkers Guild, and she is still a member of both today. She has been featured in the Beadworkers Guild magazine for members on 3 separate occasions and had the privilege of cataloguing the Guilds beadwork collection which is now ready to be added to for future generations to study. Teaching came along by accident approx. 10 years ago and as a result she became a tutor at The Suffolk College in Ipswich until funding for Leisure Learning classes was axed. Classes are now held in a variety of private locations. She holds 3 City and Guilds qualifications, levels one and two in Creative Embroidery and level two in Beadweaving. What to Bring Size 11 seed beads a variety of colours Size 8 seed beads a variety of colours 4mm crystals either bicone or fire polished Bugles 5mm Twin hole beads An assortment of accent beads drops, crystals, rounds, triangle whatever takes your fancy Beading mat Beading needles Scissors Nymo thread, fireline or other thread of choice Flat nosed pliers Pen and small note pad may be useful but not essential. All materials can be purchased from the tutor if required including basic supplies for those who have no prior experience.

4 Start and finish times Check in is from 1600, but the first formal activity is dinner at 1900 (with the bar open from 1845)followed by an evening session Residents: Please aim to arrive between 1600 and 1800 on the Friday to allow us sufficient time to show you to your accommodation and around the communal areas. Non-residents: You do not need to arrive quite so early but please can you be here by 1800 as we need to show you the communal areas as well. The course ends at 1600 on Sunday. If you are coming for the Saturday only, please arrive by 0845 in order to make a packed lunch. Dinner is included and there will be a session after dinner. Special Offer Bring a friend! If you are attending a course at Flatford Mill at the sole occupancy price, we are offering a special rate for a friend or partner not enrolled on the course to also stay at 50 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast.
