WeGO Educational Workshop 2018: WeGO is looking for a workshop location between April 27 and May 16, 2018 as these are the only dates Rosalie Nielson is available to teach. Rosalie s workshop is for experienced weavers. Since Saturday and Tuesday guilds have already scheduled workshops during this time period, Marty suggested we wait and host in 2019 and possibly do Shibori weaving which is open to all skill levels. 8 Saturday Handweavers Guild Minutes for the meeting held on December 9th President: Elizabeth thanked everyone for bringing delicious food for the potluck and also thanked hostesses Stephanie and Deb. Next month hostesses are Teresa and Marilyn. Show and share did not disappoint as there were many wonderful items and articles that were shared. Vice President: Kathy reminded members of the challenge to weave something outside of their comfort zone. Secretary: Minutes were approved. Treasurer: Kathy Fennel gave the financial report. The new checking account balance is $2, Our savings account balance is $2, The grand total of all funds held by the guild are $5, The library fund has $ and the Scholarship fund has $ Workshops: Deb announced that both the Jennifer Moore and Robyn Spady workshops were full. She said members could be added to waiting list(s). Most members were interested in Jennifer s Double Rainbow class. Teresa will send out an for everyone to look at Robyn Spady s website so we can decide on her workshop. Send your top 3 choices to Deb. To be discussed at the January meeting. WeGO: Congratulations to Cindie Kitchen, Lucy DeFranco, and Kathy Fennell whose items were selected to be in the traveling show! The show is scheduled for May and June. The location closest to us is in Roseburg. The WEGO workshop will be sometime between April 27-May 16, It is a three day workshop with Rosalie Neilson on blocks and requires an 8 harness loom. There was limited interest (5-8 people) due to it possibly being on weekdays and possible conflict with the Rogue Valley Guild workshop in May. ANWG: Cindie mentioned that the newsletter editor is asking for pictures and events that the weaving guilds have. Library: A big thanks to Elaine Plaisance for her donation of The Weaving Book. Outreach: Nothing new to report. Book Report: Cindie did a book report on Weaving Iridescence Color Play for the Handweaver by Bobbie Irwin. She said it was concise and easy to understand. A lot of information and there are chapters on color, choosing yarns, weave structures, specialty fibers, sewing, care and projects. There is even mention of our guild member Elaine Plaisance! Announcements If you change your address, be sure to let Teresa know! Program The auction was a huge success with 43 items sold bringing in $455.00!! In January, we will discuss distribution of funds. Respectfully submitted, Vicki Guy for Thalia Keple 8

9 Rogue Valley Handweavers Guild Imagination Challenge: This year the challenge consists of selecting cones of yarn from our Guild stash that have caught your eye and inspired your imagination. This yarn will be then be your inspiration to create a weaving of your choice. Woven items will be exhibited at the June 2018 meeting which is also our pot-luck luncheon day. Happy weaving! Saturday Handweavers Guild Challenge Weaving Out of Your Comfort Zone - I want to challenge the guild to take a color or weaving draft or type of fiber that you don t like or a combination of the three and make something beautiful. - Kathy Walker Saturday Handweavers Guild December 2017 Silent Auction Gift the Guild Saturday Guild Scholarship Auction Report December 2017 The annual Gift the Guild silent auction to benefit the scholarship fund was held on Dec. 9, There were 27 members present and a total of 43 items were sold. The proceeds were $463. A wide variety of items were donated including: gift baskets of yarn and accessories, wine, cookies, socks, weaving and spinning equipment, bags of found yarns, and jewelry. Many items had multiple bidders. In January, the guild will decide how to designate the money and names will be drawn for the scholarships. Many thanks to all who participated in making this a very successful auction. Stephanie Peterson 9

10 Workshops Planned for 2018 Connect with Your Heritage: Weave a Tartan Presented by Linda Davis of Bend, Oregon May 4, 5, & 6, 2018 Connect with your heritage (or with someone else s!) while also learning important weaving skills such as making frequent warp and weft color changes, color blending and consistent rhythm and beat. Tartan lore and history, tips and tricks for weaving tartans, resources for selecting and designing tartans, finishing and a tartan calculator spreadsheet application will also be provided. With assistance from the instructor, students will select a tartan prior to the workshop and instructor will provide warping instructions for each tartan. Students can choose to weave a scarf, towel or runner. Warping to occur prior to the workshop. Students work on their own looms throughout workshop. Level: Advanced beginner and above. Loom required: four shafts (floor or table loom) Sign-up deadline is December Class prep will begin 3 months prior to class. Double Rainbow Workshop Presented by Jennifer Moore June 16, 17 & 18, 2018 This is perhaps the ultimate color sampler. You will begin by winding and setting up your loom according to Jennifer s system for working with multiple colors in a rotational sequence and bringing it to the workshop. A basic two-layered structure will enable us to mix and match our colors, creating an amazing array of color mixtures. We will also experiment with single-layered structures such as warp rep and warp-faced twills. This sampler will provide a remarkable education in color theory and how optical mixtures work in weaving. Level - Intermediate. No prior experience in doubleweave is necessary, but students must know how to warp their loom. Loom - 4 shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions. Sign-up now! Deb Keberle, Workshop Coordinator - debfred83@gmail.com Robyn Spady Workshops RVHG - October 24 & 25, 2018 SHG - October 27 & 28, 2018 The guilds will coordinate two different workshops with Robyn Spady. You can visit her web-site to see the list of workshops that she offers. 10
