3 StoryGate Puppetry Europe s Inventors and Their Stories: Every invention has its story. Come and join the storytellers Simone and Michael in this show that combines puppetry with science and storytelling. Watch as their story-donkey Dan Brody leads you through years of (dangerous) experiments and tells you the story behind famous inventions. Duration 45 minutes. Up to 80 children per session. 4 Nano Wow What is nanoscience? It is the Science of the VERY small. Nanotechnology is already having major societal impacts from new technologies and advanced medical equipment to sports equipment and sun creams. How are our computers and phones getting smaller and faster? Nanoscience! What research area could potentially solve the problem of over 3 million people dying each year due to the lack of accessible, clean water? Nanoscience! Would the children in your class like to replace their school books with one sheet of flexible, electronic paper? How would this be possible? Nanoscience! What has the potential to provide fast germ detection and therefore allow instant diagnosis of a large number of diseases? Nanoscience! NanoWow is supported by funding from Science Foundation Ireland. AMBER is Ireland s leading materials research centre, based in Trinity College Dublin and working with University College Cork and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. 5 Elementary Engineering Roller-Coaster Fun for Everyone: In this engineering workshop, students will be introduced to the concept of kinetic energy the energy of motion. They ll do this by designing and building roller-coasters with loops, hills, and drop-offs. Students should be prepared to be challenged, be creative and have fun. Suitable for 4 th to 5 th classes one class only. In everyday life we use forces for almost everything we do. Forces are pushing, pulling twisting, squashing and stretching movements that cause objects to speed up or slow down, to change direction or to change shape.
