Tuesday, October 20 th ; 5:45-7:45pm From Malta To The Moon Join Malta Town Historian Paul Perreault for a historical presentation about the Malta Rocket Test Station that took place right in our own backyard of Luther Forest! The Test Station was constructed in 1945 and ran through the 1960s. Rocket engines were assembled and put through stationary ground tests. These rockets powered some of the first satellites and missiles in America including Vanguard, Vega, Discoverer and Skybolt. This is a fascinating glimpse into our town's history! This month we will be discussing The Virginian by Owen Wister, the classic Western that set the tone for the genre. Tuesday, October 6 th ; 7pm Join us to discuss The Immortal Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes, in which a single painting connects two love stories separated by nearly a century. Thursday, October 8 th ; 11am This month we dig into two books: The Smitten Kitchen by Deb Perelman, and Thug Kitchen: The Official Cookbook. Bring samples of a recipe from either book to share. Wednesday, October 14 th ; 6:30pm Friday, October 16 th ; 6:30pm for ages 2-5 with a caregiver Story time introduces young children to books, music & other fun activities. Our story time includes the early literacy skills that children must master before they can learn to read. Wednesday Mornings October 7 th, 14 th, 21 st & 28 th ; 11am Thursday Mornings October 1 st, 8 th, 15 th, 22 nd & 29 th ; 10:30am Stella is a standard poodle who received her therapy dog certificate and she loves being read to! We will read writers through the ages for inspiration and learn about the process. Participants will write their own pieces and may choose to share them with the group. Writers of every level are encouraged to attend this free, fun and supportive workshop. This event is facilitated by teacher and writer Susannah Risley, who has been leading workshops with various populations for 17 years. It is funded in part by Poets and Writers with public funds from the NYS Council for the Arts, the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.
