1 OUR MONTHLY QUILT TALK Volume 33, No. 10 Saline County Quilters Guild Newsletter October 2016 Eddie Landreth, Editor Website: President's Message Dear Quilting Friends, When I think I know how wonderful and talented a group our guild is, you go and make me that much more proud to be part of it. This past week closed out Saturday on such a high! We had a singularly fantastic and successful Quilt Show. Outstanding work by guild members, surprising community response, and overall, just a great experience. Gwen worked more in the last two years on that show than any one person should have to. (Now go back and read that sentence again. That s how true it is.) But she did it! She led the way all the way and we are in her debt. Kudos to you, Gwen! Then life happened. The very next day, one of our own suffered the loss of a beloved family member. I ve been in the guild long enough to see what happens when we lose a member, or when a member suffers a loss. Our hearts break. We want to do something. Are other guilds like that? Are they that close? I ve never been in another one, so I don t know. But I surely am glad I m in this one. This week I ve had a few quiet moments to think about what s going on in my little world. The spectacular highs and the sorrowful lows and points in between. You know, those same things that make up everyone s lives. Here s my conclusion: It doesn t take a village. It takes a quilt guild! Happy Quilting! Terri P.S. It s time to start working on your entries for the 2018 Quilt Show. I d love to see 100% participation! 2 ~ Quilt Show News ~ How about that quilt show?! To each of you who entered a quilt or quilts in the show thank you! Without you we wouldn t have a show. Thank you to all who worked at the show and to all who donated door prizes. Because of your generosity we were able to give out door prizes about every 15 minutes. This created a fun atmosphere for the attendees. Thank you to Charlotte for sponsoring the show and for the many door prizes; to Eddie for taking care of vendors; to Sondra for overseeing advertising; to Fay, Twyla and Jean for making ribbons; to Myrna for making sure our quilt racks were rented; to Terri for creating the layout for our show, creating numerous tabulating forms and for minding the admissions table. We had a record attendance: 959 including vendors and volunteers. Our admission tickets brought in $4,295. The gift basket which was generously donated by Pat brought in $158. We sold $477 in donation quilt tickets. We are grateful to our sponsors whose generosity helped underwrite the show: Pinwheel Fabrics, PVF, Allied Glass, and Pinecrest Funeral Home. A special thanks to Jeff Curtis for doing all the designing and layout of our advertising and program booklets. If you have not already done so, please report to Gwen any expenses related to the quilt show that you have incurred even if you have been reimbursed for these expenses. She is compiling an expense report for future reference. All of you who entered quilts are winners!
