1 OUR MONTHLY QUILT TALK Volume 32, No. 2 Saline County Quilters Guild Newsletter February 2015 Gwen Rogers, Editor Website: Website host: Eddie Landreth sewgenie2@yahoo.com President s Message Dear Quilting Friends, I survived my first night presiding over our meeting. Whew! If you missed it, we had a fun night of snacking, sitting, sewing, and chatting a lot. As a matter of fact, I was doing so much chatting that I didn t even get to work on the piece that I brought. Never even took it out of the bag. But it was a fun night even had some new members. Yippee! I love it when new people want to join us. And if you re one of those new people, we re glad you re here, and we ll do everything we can to make you feel at home. Speaking of new people, I found out that one of our new members, Shellie Blake, is quite accomplished and does long arm quilting, too. Not being one to pass up an opportunity, I asked if she d be willing to do a trunk show for us, and she consented. She ll be doing the program for our February meeting. Double Yippee! One other monumentally wonderful thing happened at the meeting. Eddie Landreth volunteered to take over our website. Folks, I can t tell you how happy that made me. I m pretty sure it ll make Kathryn Hodge happy, too. She s graciously built out the website over the last few years, and I do appreciate all the work she did. Kathryn, you re leaving your baby in good hands! 6 Final vote on the logo will be held at the February meeting QuiltMania Challenge Quilt Instructions: For those of you who plan to participate in the QuiltMania Challenge Quilt Contest, these are the rules: 1. Use two or more charm packs of the same fabrics. 2. The back of the quilt can be a solid piece of the fabric, yardage of the charm pack or backing of your choice. Only the front of the quilt will be judged. 3. Binding (if one is used) has to be pieced from the charm pack fabric. However, binding is not required. 4. The quilt must be at least 20 X 20, but can be larger. 5. The entry fee is $5.00. This money will go for prizes. To help you get started, consider a miniature quilt or a scrap quilt. How about a string quilt? Or, remember the watercolor quilts? Don t forget the wonderful quilt in last year s Quilt Mania challenge, made by Sheila Byrd, using paper hexagons to make her background. Remember in Jacket Jazz how we learned to change the texture of the fabrics using pleating, crinkling, shagging? So many options are available, and if you are having trouble, just go through your many books and magazines for ideas. They are full of wonderful ideas. The charms can be cut up, and sewn together in so many ways. I hope this helps you in picking a method that inspires you to go forward and make an amazing quilt. Good Luck to All.
