1 1811.,111111' 181/ I Saline County Quilter's Guild Newsletter Volume 29 No. 10 October 2012 Beth Lane Editor lblane@prodigy.net ~--- WEB Site Kathryn Hodge asdf3565@sbcglobal.net President i-vr 2ndvp Jo Schlecht Gwen Rogers Betty Watterson OFFICERS Secretary Treasurer Beth Lane Judy Huggins President's Message I am writing this the morning after our meeting. Wasn't that a great program last night. I!!??? Maggie Ball showed many bright and colorful quilts. We had a record number in attendance, over 75.!!! What a great turnout. We helped Miss Beulah celebrate her 90th birthday with a cake and card shower. We have a home for 1st Wednesday in November. Phyllis Kirtley has invited us to her house. She has a beautiful yard and spends many hours to keep it looking it's best. It will be a treat to see it. Phyllis has a lovely home with a great sewing studio. Wait till you see it. You're coming to my house in October. The directions are on the web site already. Kathryn is really on the ball keeping the web site current. My big problem is parking space so try to car pool if possible. It's o.k. to park under the trees or in the cui de sac and walk up the hill. I hope to see you then. Jo SUNSHINE Contact Marilyn Payne at or her at mjp126@att.net for her to send a card. ANNOUNCEMENTS FOUND - I have a pair of scissors from the quilt tote class. If no one claims them, I will just keep them. Fay Poe THANK YOU to Windy Wilt for all her assistance in proof reading the Newsletter each month and also for preparing the mailing for this Newsletter. Her article Patchwork Piecings adds so much to our newsletter. Beth Lane 1ST WEDNESDAY DIRECTIONS - JO SCHLECHT, HOSTESS From Benton, take Highway 5 to the Village. Come in the East gate, I'll call ahead so they will let you in.. You will be on Desoto Road Go approximately 2 miles to the intersection of Desoto and Ponce de Leon Drive. Tum right. Go approximately 2 miles to Ponce de Leon Lane, turn right. My house is at the top of the hill. My address is 10 Ponce de Leon Lane and mine is the only house there. It would work better if you would car pool because my parking is limited. My driveway will hold about 6 cars and there is parking under the trees There is a cui de sac that you are welcome to park on and walk up the hill. I hope you all can come. Jo

3 PATCHWORK PIECING BY WINDY WILT YEA! Fall is here... this is my very fav time of year, the sweltering summer should be behind us and the cooler weather really sparks my creativity! How about you? Or are you "creative" all year? Missed QA this month due to Labor Day and the library being closed. Wouldn't it be nice ifwe had an alternative meeting place for those holiday closures... any ideas? Gayle Lopez hosted l" Wednesday this month. She had a super turnout, 20+ members and Gayle invited some of her neighbors one of which is a budding quitter who was experiencing difficulty quilting with a hoop and was a bit discouraged. Several ladies were quick to offer advice and encouragement and when I saw Judy later this month she was so proud that she had mastered quilting without the hoop. What a super group of ladies in our guild, always willing to share their experience and ideas and not stingy with their "2 cents worth"! LOL Lots of yummy food as usual and a real favorite was brought by Judy Huggins. She calls it "Cowboy Caviar" and shares her recipe: 1 can Mexicorn-drained 1 can Rotel drained ~ cup sour cream ~ cup Miracle Whip Chop 3 green onions 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Stir and set overnight in fridge and serve with Fritos. D- T-S had a great turnout also... probably because I was presenting the program, wink, wink. LOL! I demoed how to make some nifty gifts in minutes. Since it was exactly 3 months till Christmas Eve I thought that would be helpful as we are always in need of stocking stuffers and last minute items and nothing says "LOVE" better than hand sewn. Gifts shown were a useful tissue holder, a drawstring fabric bag, a fat quarter apron, a wallet made from the bottom of a man's tie. The ladies were asked to bring needle and thread to the meeting for a surprise project. Materials were furnished for a fall pumpkin "stuffie" and we had a great "Sew along". Do you realize that sewing goes back to the beginning oftime when Eve first sewed fig leaves together?! And Ecclesiastes 6:b refers to a time to keep and a time to throwaway and 3:7 a time to tear and a time to mend... "sew" I shall spend the next few months whittl ing down my stash and sewing blessings. Thanks to everyone today for your kind words and encouragement. I am so blessed to be a part of this awesome guild! 8 PROGRAMS Heads up all of you Saline County Quilt Guild members. Your time to shine will be at our October program. Please participate by bringing an antique quilt. Be prepared to give us a short story about it. All participants will be given an entry for a drawing of a gift donated by an anonymous member. Jeanette Huff is scheduled for our November program. The December program will be a surprise. Our program in January will be Eddie Landreth showing some of his great works. Program Chairman - Jane Hammonds DOOR PRIZES SALE OF AUCTION BLOCKS is next month. If you haven't started your block for the auction next month, now is the time. The theme is anything in fall or fall holidays, or if you want to do spring, we'll take that too. The unfinished blocks should be 12112", that is because some like to put them together for a wall hanging or put in a quilt. If you choose to make something finished, that will be wonderful too. I like "finished" as I'm sure a lot more do too. Bidding will start at $5.00 and go up from there, so bring your money or check. MEMBERSIDP Terri Dobbs has consented to be the membership chairperson. She will be working with Cathy Faulkner to get our membership renewals in October. Thank you Terri!! You can renew your membership for 2013 beginning November, The renewal form is included in this month's newsletter.
