Friday night starting at 11:00, there was a pajama party, complete with a pajama style show, followed by an all-nighter. Only three brave souls were able to make it completely through the night. What a way to go, Kathleen Greer, Mary Boyd, and Cindy Barnett. Special prizes were awarded throughout the night given by Village Cloth Shoppe in DeKalb. This was a great experience, but even the three who made it through the night decided that this would probably be our first and last time for a sewing all-nighter.
8 Cindy Barnett Janet Lindsey Missy Lee Joan Ayers Martha Ludke Twenty-seven persons attended the 2014 Brandon Quilters Fall Retreat twenty-five quilters and two husband/chauffeurs. The delicious food prepared by Lake Tiak-O Khata s staff made up our buffet breakfasts and lunches and most suppers in the lodge building overlooking the beautiful lake. We more than stuffed ourselves at mealtime and worked it off at the sewing machines. Everything was in walking distance and most attendees walked to and fro from the chalet, Smyth Hall, to Pineridge Lodge, our sewing facility, to the Lodge where we ate our meals. Mornings started early as Martha Ludke was up before dawn brewing coffee for early risers at the sewing room before 6:00 each morning. Most sewed into the night and went to sleep by 11:00 each night, some earlier, some later. We had two side trips to quilt shops. Friday morning we went to Main Street Fabric in Ackerman. Saturday afternoon it was a trip to DeKalb for a visit to Village Cloth Shoppe. The retreat ran from Thursday morning around 9:00 until Sunday afternoon around 3:00. Everyone had a GREAT time!

10 Marilyn Rose Janet Lindsey Marilyn Rose Janet Lindsey Debbie Wilson Cindy Pannier Debbie Wilson Each quilter attending was given a bag containing instructions and all the materials needed to complete a folding case to hold various quilting tools. Everyone that completed their kit during the retreat received an extra prize a needle threader and case. See Billie s case below. We had a lot of fun, great fellowship, and shared helpful hints and sewing problem solving with each other. We even managed to finish a good number of quilting projects, as you can see. Kathleen Greer and Mary Boyd made goodie bags and stuffed them full of wonderful items. Then we had drawings for the bags throughout the retreat and each quilter received a bag. To identify our group, each participant was given a name tag that was a miniature quilt with their name on it. This was our meal ticket as our retreat fee included our lodging, meals, and rent for our sewing room. At the end of the retreat we turned in our name tags to assure their use next year when we once again gather. To take home, each quilter received a tag to hang on their rotary cutter with their name spelled out in beads and a tag letting the world know we love quilting. Each year participants receive a different charm. This year it was a small silver thimble to add to our collection on our retreat pins. For those that did not make it this year, hope the pictures here will inspire you to sign up for next year s retreat. See you there!
