Reminder from your President: This month, we all have learned how important it is to read your copy of Sunny Sue's Scraps. Many missed the opportunity to guess the Library's Mystery Quilt book. Thank you, Alison Dargie! Your mystery quilt is beautiful! Alison chose blocks from Tula Pink s book, Tula Pink s Sampler, 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. Hopefully, somebody else has been inspired to do the same. If so, bring your blocks to share with us. Everybody enjoys seeing a different version of the same quilt pattern. We have more books by Tula, check these out as well: #1008 Quilting from the House of Tula Pink #1100 Quilt with Tula and Angela And, if you would like to be the next Mystery Quilter, let us know. Calling all quilters We are looking for fresh, new titles for the library. If you are either trying out a new book or DVD or have browsed through one that looks interesting, tell us. The Red Table returns on the first Wednesday of each month. Donated books are sold for the price of a cash donation to the library. Shop. Be generous. Money goes towards the purchase of new additions to our shelves. The guidelines for book donations may be found on the website. To briefly recap, books should be clean and in good condition, pertain to quilting, and have a publishing date of 2009 or later. Remember, choose to use the library! Julie and Vicki, club librarians

2 Community Quilts SALE TOTALLED $1, YOUR GENEROSITY IS UNENDING! Not only do you keep bringing in wonderful quilts to bless our community, but today you brought in your wallets! It took less than three hours for you to fill your bags and clear out boxes and boxes of donated goods and fabric. Many thanks to the helpers who kept the lines moving and questions answered. We couldn t have done it without you. All usable but unsold items will go to other non-profit organizations, so the giving continues. October 4 9:00 Board Meeting 10:00 Announcements October 11 10:00 Business Meeting 12:30 Art Quilt Sues (Karen s Quilt Shop) Your Community Quilt Team, Cindy, Carol and Susan Quilt Donation Olympic Medical Center Foundation is the latest recipient of a quilt donated by the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club. Jeremy Gilchrist of OMC accepted the quilt at the September business meeting. The quilt will be auctioned at the annual Harvest of Hope Wine & Dinner Gala to be held October 21st at Sunland Golf and Country Club. 3 Welcome New Members: Emily Meyer and Sharon Pierce! Emily and her husband currently live in Poulsbo, but are house hunting in Sequim. They've hiked extensively in the Olympic National Park. She travels with her husband and her sister, and is sometimes gone three, four or six months at a time. She retired from the Federal Government as a civilian employee. Emily has been quilting for decades and makes quilts for family, friends, charities and veterans. Quilting and horses are her passion. She also volunteers for a horse rescue foundation. Happy October Birthdays to: Sharon has always been a creative person, most recently as an oil painter. She has sewn for years, for her family as well as for business. 4 Sandy Foster's Quilt Class 101 has begun. It looks like her students are having fun! We look forward to seeing what Sandy's students create.. Christmas Stocking Challenge.. Thanks to Martha Scott for coordinating this year s Stocking Challenge. The theme is Patriotic/Americana Christmas. Martha will be providing more information about the challenge and will be available to talk with you at Community Quilt meetings. There is a basic pattern for the Christmas stockings. We ask that you use this pattern so that so that every special stocking is large and strong enough to hold the stuffers Beyond size there are only two things that we ask that you provide on your stockings: The stocking must be lined and quilted to give it strength. We encourage you to quilt both the front and back of the stocking to add strength. Our stockings are treasured by the kids and will need to last for years. Provide a loop on the upper left corner of the front (heel side) so that the stockings can be hung from the chimney with care.. Patterns and other information will be available at the Christmas stocking table starting on September 13. You can also turn in completed stockings or, stocking stuffers (starting in October) at the table. NEWS FROM THE BAGUETTES: November 1 st, will be our last get together to make a bag this year. We will be making the Thread Catcher by Curry Bungalow. In fact, it will be our last get together for a while. I ve thouroghly enjoyed all the meetings we ve had the last couple of years but it s time to take a break. 5 News From the VEEPS As the year winds down for our VP duties, we would like to thank all the participants in our various events. We are still looking for people interested in the August St Andrews retreat. This is a great time to get to know other quilters, work on projects and just relax. Please let Valley know if you are interested. Kamp Sew A Lot is coming up later this month. This is a three day sewing retreat. It takes place at the Prairie Grange in Sequim and is a day camp only. At this time it is full. The studio tour was a great success. What beautiful studios.. 6 Education: Class Schedule Date Event & Instructor Note: Oct. 9 & 10 Jan. 17 & 18 Patsy Thompson Introduction to Ruler Work 101 and Beautiful Borders 102 Maggie Ball from Bainbridge will give us a lecture and trunk show on Wednesday morning and teach a class on pattern drafting in the afternoon. On Thursday January 18th Maggie will teach an all-day class called Six-Block Bear's Paw Sampler.
