1 Sue s Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club September 2018 The President s Words for August to Inspire a Welcoming Environment in our Club HUGS Borrowing from Sharon Witt, the word for the day is hugs! Research has shown that not only is humor great for good health, but hugs are just as important! Hugs! ZUCCHINI August 8 is Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day! So, before you share the overabundance of zucchini, go to your overabundance green fabric stash. Using the zucchini as your color inspiration, make your favorite quilt block. Wrap it around the zucchini, and anonymously, thoughtfully, place your present onto your neighbor s porch. TEACH "Live to learn, learn to live, then teach others." - Douglas Horton This is a great mantra for our club as our purpose is to share our experience and knowledge of quilting. Out of our present roster of 220 members, 1 in 5 members joined in the past year and a half. Not only should we be sharing with each other, but make sure you are including our new members. 2 Sue s Sew Day and Other Quilting Events The Next Sue s Sew Day is September 19, Dust off your sewing machine and let s get quilting. This month we ll be serving soup or salad and a sandwich (based on the weather). Sign up for the lunch is the first two Wednesdays of the month. Cost is still just $5.00. This is a great time to get some quilting accomplished and chat with other Quilters. This month we ll be doing a Hand Quilting Demo. You ll be able to watch and try your hand at Hand Quilting on a floor frame, in a small frame, and without a frame. We ll also be learn a couple different ways to work the quilting needle. Members Emeritus Clarification Note for Clarification, there has been some confusion on this point. This rule change was proposed, voted on, and approved unanimously, in the May Business Meeting of 2014, however, never changed in the Standing Rules online or in the President s Notebook. The current Board reaffirmed the vote. The online Standing Rules have been updated to reflect the Rule of 85. Note: It says in the rule that the person has to notify the President that they are 85 so membership doesn't have to be the age police. Article IV. MEMBERSHIP STANDING RULES 8. Any member of Sunbonnet Sue who has been a member in good standing for 25 years will be honored as Member Emeritus at the beginning of her 26th year. Any member of Sunbonnet Sue who has been a member in good standing for at least 5 years and has reached the age of 85 shall be eligible for the designation of Member Emeritus. Members must notify the President of their eligibility. The Member Emeritus shall no longer be required to pay dues, but shall receive all benefits of membership.

4 I'm so proud to have been accepted to show my quilt in the AQS Quilt Week in Paducah. My granddaughter Sage and I will be attending the show in September. Martha Library News Happy September! The quilt show has been put to bed, most of the guests have departed and the days are getting cooler. It s time to get back in the sewing room. Yippee! 7 COMMUNIITY QUIILTS SUNBONNET SUE JOINS AUGUST CELEBRATION FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FAMILY Cindy Smith, Mary Bess and Carol Prael were on hand to present a bed quilt and two train themed children s quilts to this happy family. COMMUNITY QUILTS INVENTORY REDUCTION SALE IS SEPTEMBER 26TH Your committee has spent countless hours receiving donations and sorting through bins and boxes. You will have to see it to believe it! So much stuff at such cheap prices! It never seems to work when an open time is posted, so arrive at club when you can and if we aren t ready for you, you can help us unload boxes. The big item this year is fabric. We will sell it by the pound. No cuts are smaller than a fat quarter. A featured category is a Batik Bonanza. We have lots. All proceeds are used to buy batting.
