2 Hi Quilters, This month I would like to encourage ALL members to consider entering a quilt in our show. Even if you are new to quilting and you don t think your quilt measures up, Believe me when I say we have all been new at one time and every quilt that gets finished deserves to be in a show! It really is a showcase of our whole group, some of us only make small quilts, some believe the larger the better, some quilters paper piece, some applique, some do traditional patterns, some have art quilts, and some combine different techniques it s all quilting and it s all great to show! I am looking forward to seeing how many quilts get registered this month I challenge you to register 50 quilts this month! Make me proud! The second important item is the raffle tickets PLEASE take some packs of tickets to sell- one pack for our raffle quilt and one pack for the American girl doll raffle. If we all take our packs to sell or donate the amount, then we will all be helping to raise money for our show and ultimately our guild! When everyone participates, we fulfill our responsibility as a guild member, and we make it easier all around. Be PROUD of your guild and sell those tickets! If you aren t comfortable selling them, simply pay the amount yourself for one pack and give the tickets away to your friends or keep them for yourself! Have a Happy 4 th of July, Celebrate our Country s Independence! See you all at the next guild meeting! 3 COMMUNITY QUILTS I looked at all the wonderful quilts you have made so far and I can tell you that there will be a lot of happy children and seniors who will love to get them. Our count to date is 48 finished children s quilts with pillow cases and 60 lap quilts for the nursing homes. (I have already delivered 20 of the children s quilts to the Department of Human Services and 18 lap quilts tall the wonderful quilts you have made so far and I can o the Bridgman Retirement Home.) For each resident to have a quilt of their own at the West Woods of Bridgman Home (Jordan s), we need 58 more. They have a total of 100 residents. If we make more than 58, I will find homes for those, too. We are on our way and I know you will be happy to help meet our goal. How great will it be when everyone there gets a quilt! There will be a lots of smiling faces!! If you have taken kits to complete, thank you so much for participating. Thank you as well for those of you who did your own thing with your own fabrics. We are now half way through our year and busy with the quilt show, but I know you will take time to make more quilts for kids and our seniors. 4 Quilt Show October 17 & The Quilt Show ii fast approaching. All systems are go! Raffle tickets will be available at the July meeting and each member will be given 12 tickets to purchase or sell. A quilt registration form is in this newsletter. Additional forms will be available at meetings and on the web site. Don t forget to attach a hanging sleeve on every quilt. Directions are available on the web site and at the next meeting, if needed. More post cards are available for distribution. We hope you are getting quilt show info out to the public. Our charity for the silent auction quilts is Berrien County Cancer Services, The quilts will be displayed at public libraries in our community. Let s all participate in this charitable endeavor. See donated quilts on the web site and on face book. Different chairpersons need more helping hands and will be approaching you to serve or volunteer. Let s all take pride in our guild and make the show the best we can! ********** Quilt Show Boutique Our Members Only Boutique is coming together nicely. We have several members preregistered and will be offering some beautifully crafted quilted items. Our boutique is a special part of the quilt show and provides YOU an opportunity to sell some of your quilt related items. Remember this is for newly constructed quilt related items (antique quilts/tops/blocks are also welcome). You make the items, the Boutique sells it for you and you keep the profits (minus 10% for sales tax and miscellaneous expenses). Please see Cathy Benke, Cindy Shepherd or visit the guild website for preregistration forms. Further details will be provided at the time of preregistration. 4

5 Silent Auction We will display mini-quilts for the silent auction at St. Joseph Public Library and Lincoln Township Public Library in September, so we need mini-quilts as soon as possible. Suggestions (besides the obvious 4th of July) were picnics, vacation, beach, birthdays, canoeing,, gardens, ice cream, baseball and family reunions. We will have a 'Christmas in July' for our December month when we will not have a Guild Meeting. Suggestions were New Year's Eve, snowmen, Kwanza, shopping, baking, caroling, presents, nativity, snow angels and sledding. These were such great suggestions. Go to it!!! 7 Box Factory Gwen Jones has a fabric installation piece in the MAAC Show Opening June 20th and up until August 2nd. It is composed of 31 quilted tubes. July Vendor So South Haven The June Monthly Basket raised $ and was provided by Kathy Brown and Leslie Hilmer. Fund Raiser At the July meeting we will have die cut freezer paper cut outs. $2 - $4 donations per pack. Please look for: Cars, Maple Leaves, Stars, Teddy Bears and much more. 8 Library News Our July program will feature ways to use freezer paper, one of the staples of most quilters tools collections. We will look forward to new and interesting ways to use it. Maybe you will want to try these new methods to make some of the quilts or small projects in our collection of books on applique, so we will provide some of our favorites on the library table. We think you will also find it more convenient to browse the library shelves, now grouped by subject and color coded to help you find what you are looking for. Let us know if you find a must have book on your summer tour of shop hops, quilt shows, and internet browsing; we are happy to consider your recommendations while we still have a few $$$ in our budget. 9 Program July 10,2014 First, I want to thank everyone for all of the beautiful pieces of crazy quilting that were brought to the meeting. A special thanks to Kay Craw for explaining how to start a crazy quilt and inspiring us by showing her finished quilt, also her new project incorporated hexagons and crazy quilting I can't wait to see that one finished! Our July meeting will be how quilters use freezer paper. Please bring along scissors that you cut paper with, not your sewing scissors. We will be showing how to design a block by cutting simple shapes. We have a couple of things we want to remind you of, one is our quilting ruler challenge. This can be from a ruler you have or one you are planning to buy and try. We want to see your finished work at out October meeting. Dig through that stack of rulers and make a block or a small quilt to inspire others! Also, start looking in your closet or at a yard sale or goodwill for a 100 percent cotton shirt any size will do! We want you to bring it to the August meeting. We will be showing homespun quilts that month and we have a fun evening planned for you and your shirt. Don't wear it, just bring it!! We are having a wonderful time at our "Quilty Summer Fun". Our July 19th date is the next time we will meet, please sign up at the meeting. Please bring along what you have finished or fabric you plan to use, we are seeing lots of variety! I want to thank Laura Williams and Kim Otte for their wonderful demos and their samples of what they are doing! Thank you very much for all the preparation and the inspiration! As always a thank you to all of those special trainers that you have every month at your tables!! Without them we wouldn't be having all kinds of fun this year.
