We had three new members, some former members rejoin, and several guests. Excited to say the least, it looks like we are going to have good participation for the row quilt that Jean Corley is leading at the 5:30 workshop. The UFO challenge also got off to a good start. If you were not there this month and didn't get yours turned in it is not too late. Pat rolled the dice and the first one due in April is your number four on the list so get going on it and turn in your list and money at next meeting. The Marti Michelle class was just out of this world. I have said this so many times but it bears repeating - I have yet to take a class that I didn't learn something so here's hoping that more of you will be able to take advantage of the opportunity the next class we have. Remember to get you a name tag made for our March program. If you need ideas there are lots on the internet or call Gwen and she will help you find one. 2 ~ Programs ~ The March program will be a name-tag contest. There will be prizes! Your hearty participation will make this a fun night. (If you Google "handmade name tag" you will be able to see quite a few ideas for inspiration.) Starting in May we will be doing a five month mystery quilt. In September, we will follow Lori Holt s Bee Happy Sew Along on the Bee in my Bonnet blog. She will post a block each Monday. If the Library is available we will met the Saturday following the meeting and at QA at the Bed Warmer quilt shop to work on the blocks (10:00 till closing). The pattern is free but a set of Sew Simple Shapes is needed. The guild will purchase a set for our use at these meetings. I will post a picture of the quilt in the newsletter closer to September. You must be a member to use the set of Simple Shapes. Thank you, Cely ~ Marti Michell Workshop Recap~ We all had a good time, learned a lot and will now make drunkard paths blocks with no trouble. Sorry if you missed the class. I didn't show my block Monday night because I cut my purple fabric wrong and didn't have enough to make the blocks. I do make mistakes even if you don't think I do when I quilt. Marti's expenses for travel, class and lecture were $1, I collected $ in class fees. We will have another teacher in August from Kansas Troubles. More info next month. If using a GPS, there are numerous ways to get to this address. Otherwise, from Little Rock on I-30, take Exit 117 to Hwy 5. Turn right at light onto Hwy 5. Turn right on Salt Creek Road. Turn left on Mulberry Salem Road. Turn right on Brazil Road. Turn right on Holly Ridge Cove. Destination is 4th house on left. Park at an angle off the driveway. It s okay to park on the grass. Here is a list of open dates for hosting First Wednesday in Please consider being a hostess. We love gathering in various homes and sharing food and fellowship. Materials list if you are interested in taking this class at Quilt Mania: 12 square of felted, 100% wool for backing, center, and decorative loops (old sweaters offer great choices; mix and match colors, if you like.) 3 ½ wide strips of 5-6 different fabrics of choice (you will need 20 wedges if using the listed template.) An excellent source for row quilt patterns, this book includes easy-tofollow instructions/patterns that were not in Farm Girl Vintage. I plan to display several books at each meeting, and the library will be open if you would like to see what's available. See me if you would like to check books out. Myrna 3

4 ~ Meeting Minutes February 20, 2017 ~ The Saline County Quilters Guild met on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 612 Valley View Road, Benton Arkansas. 5:30 Workshop Jean Corley gave us more instructions on how to make the Row Quilt that she has perfected since making four of them this past year. She described her quilt as a scrappy throw. She also suggested that we use more black in the quilt. Jean distributed a handout detailing the appliqué row with four-patch and half-square triangles. She finished the quilt with the Big Stitch technique that we learned earlier in the year utilizing a Chenille Needle and Pearl Cotton Thread. Sondra Curtis called the meeting to order at 5:50 pm. No changes were noted to the January meeting minutes or the January Financial Report. Old Business: New Business: Dottie Atkins from Hot Springs Village invited our members to enter quilts in their bi-annual quilt show to be held July 14 and 15. Entry forms are available on their website. The theme is Peaceful/Friendship Quilts. There will be many vendors, boutiques, an auction quilt, and Quilts of Valor something for everyone. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Fay Poe Professional Workshops Cely Slover Saturday Workshops This Saturday February 25, 2017, the library is reserved from 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. to work on your projects. Jean Corley Day Time Stitchers Information for new members, Day Time Stitchers is held at the Saline County Library the 4 th Monday of every month. Bring projects you are working on and/or anything for Show N Tell. Terri Dobbs Quilt Show Gwen Rogers 1 st Wednesday Gwen Rogers will host the 1st Wednesday luncheon March 1. She will be serving ham. Please bring side dishes and desserts. Shirley Miller Membership Pat Wade introduced two new members tonight, Janet Webster and Susan White. Shirley Miller Sunshine Report Sidney Morris Charity Quilts Sidney invited interested persons to come this Thursday and share in the fun working on charity quilts. Twyla Moore Door Prizes Tonight s winners were: Linda Beavert, Carolyn Morris, Ann Harkey, and Cheri Johnson. Pat Wade Fund Raising Pat is asking the members to gather up their UFOs for the Done is Good challenge. There will be a form in the newsletter for you to indicate your six UFOs. Tonight s roll of the die turned up a four (4). This UFO is to be completed in April. You will receive one ticket if the top is done, if brought in when due, you will receive 3 tickets. Project #6 is not due until March Terri Dobbs, Twyla Moore, and Sheila Bird - Quiltmania Please contact Twyla Moore if you would like to be her roommate at Quilt Mania. Quilt Mania will be April 3-6, The schedule includes: Monday PM - Shellie Blake will teach a Mystery Quilt. Tuesday all day - Charlotte Williams will teach Crazy Cats. Wed AM - Cathy Faulkner will teach us how to make a Round Pin Cushion. She distributed the supply list for this class. 4

5 Fay Poe Quiltaholics Anonymous This group meets the first Monday of the month at the Bed Warmer Quilt and Sew at 10:00 a.m. The group is open to anyone and can be a good resource for anyone who might have questions about a project they are working on. Eddie Landreth: Newsletter The meeting minutes and any other newsletter submissions need to be in by Friday night following the monthly meeting Meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm Jane Hammonds Donation Quilt Gwen Rogers Programs Gwen will note the programs in the newsletter. March will be a handmade Name Tag Contest. There will be VERY nice prizes. Gwen suggested that the name tag reflects who you are, and have fun with it. Myrna Yandell Librarian Program: Tonight s program was presented by our guest, Marti Mitchell. Her trunk show was spectacular! She distributed handouts that reflected templates she made and used in her quilts. Even though I didn t have a front row seat for this demonstration, I could tell from the oohs and aahs from all the members that they were beautiful and unique. Show N Tell Melissa Landreth shared a purple 3-generation quilt her Mother and Grandmother worked on and that she finished. Linda Beavert showed us her Farm Girl Chicken Quilt and her Weaver Fever completed at the Bed Warmer. Ann Prince displayed a Strawberry and several adult bibs. Paulette Hutchings showed off her beautiful Christmas quilt. Ida Phillips showed us a needle turn appliqué with a flange binding. Debbie Gordon held up her Curved Log Cabin. Tiffanee Noack showed us her Georgie Boy receiving blanket made for a friend s dog and her own unique Library Quilt. Sheila Bird, Judy Huggins and Gwen Rogers showed us their Scrappy Bear s Path that was made in the class taught earlier in the day by Marti Mitchell. 5

7 Saline County Quilters Guild QUILTMANIA April 3 6, 2017 Here s some important information about our 2017 QuiltMania Retreat! Registration: Deadline is March 1, No refunds after March 8. Call Terri Dobbs at if you register, but are unable to attend. Do-Nuthins: If you aren t in class, you re a Do-Nuthin. As a Do-Nuthin, you re free to work on whatever you wish. Or, if you prefer, you can Do-Nuthin. Your choice! Drop-Ins: Daily drop-ins are welcome at Quiltmania to quilt, visit, or Do-Nuthin. You will be required, however, to pay the Feland Hall fee of $13.00 per day. Meals are not included in the Feland Hall fee. Goody Bags and Door Prizes: People who register by the March 1 deadline will receive Goody Bags. The contents will be unique, and will contain items donated by friends, sponsors, and guild members. General Information: 1. Pick up room keys Monday morning at Feland Hall. 2. Be out of your room by 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning. 3. If you need a roommate, let Terri or Twyla know. 4. Coffee pots are allowed in the rooms, but NO FOOD! 5. Snacks are welcome in the Feland Hall kitchen bring enough to share! 6. Clean out your leftovers by 10:00 Thursday. 7. Classroom is partitioned from the kitchen, but keep considerately quiet during classes. 8. There will be a give-away table. 9. There may be little games!
