1 December 2017 President s Message Christmas comes but once a year and the same time every year. Why is it we are never ready? If you are like me, you are caught up in the hustle and bustle of preparing the gifts, (either buying or making them), meal planning and/or getting ready for vacationing or visitors arriving, not to mention all the additional socializing, potlucks, concerts, etc. It is an extremely busy time of the year and emotional as well. For some it is a happy time, for others it may be quite sad. But whatever the emotion, I hope everyone is surrounded by love, family and friends. I found the following amongst my keepsakes. I modified it a bit and thought I would share it with you. Of all the Christmas wishes you can share this time of year, there s one phrase in particular we love to say and hear. Those two words, Merry Christmas, put a grin on every face. We thought you d like to see each letter s meaning, in its place. M is for the manger filled with hay so soft and deep. A humble bed where baby Jesus cuddled down to sleep. E is for excitement that we feel the whole month through. We laugh and play, sing Christmas songs, and smile at people too! R can stand for red, a Christmas color, fun and bright. Combined with green it makes our decorations look just right. R also means researching for that perfect gift. To give a loved one a lovely joyous lift Y is for yuletide, which means the Christmas season A magic time of love and kindness. You are the reason! Guild Calendar 19 th December 2017 Guild Meeting 9:00 am Monthly Guild Meeting, Pot Luck Location: Landing Sports Centre Loft, Spadina Ave, Chilliwack 9 th January 2018 Exec Meeting 10:30 am Location: 8485 Young Road (behind the Waverly) (In the Activity Room), Chilliwack 11 th January :00 3:00 UFO Day Retreat Location Lynwood Retirement Residence 9168 Corbould Street, Chwk 16 th January 2018 Guild Meeting 9:00 am, Monthly Guild Meeting, Pot Luck Location: Landing Sports Centre Loft, Spadina Ave, Chilliwack 27 th January 2018 We Care Sew Day 10:00 3:00 pm Location: Sardis Library Page 1 of 10
2 C is for candles that can fill our homes with light. It also means the carols we sing that give us such delight. H is for the happiness we feel this time of year. Everywhere we go, we try to spread some Christmas cheer. R is for rejoicing, living life with love and joy. The most precious gift we can give to every girl and boy. I is for inviting, reaching out to make new friends Plates of cookies to deliver, Christmas cards to send! S is for the shepherds watching over flocks with care. And sometimes snowflakes that add to the wondrous air. T is for togetherness, seeing family near and far, Long trips to visit relatives by plane or train or car. M is for mistletoe, we hang so carefully A quick kiss now and then as we decorate the tree! A is for the angels who brought tidings of good news. To share those tidings with our friends is something we can choose S is for the star that guided seekers long ago. That Christmas light still guides us now, no matter where we go. We wish you, Merry Christmas! It s a lovely thing to say. We re glad you came to celebrate and sing with us today. There s only one more song to share before we soon depart, A Christmas tune that touches each and every Christmas heart. Merry Christmas, everyone, and best wishes for very happy holiday season! Lynn Garbay SNOW ALERT! In the event of a significant snowstorm our meetings may need to be cancelled. On the meeting day, be sure to check the website at 8:00 am to see if this is the case. Otherwise, the meetings will take place as scheduled. (this applies to both regular and executive meetings). ********* Page 2 of 10

5 The Boundary Bay Quilters Guild is having its first "international" bus trip next spring when we hit the road for the Quilters Anonymous Show in Monroe, WA, and, at this point, there are still a few seats left on the bus. This is a big show, about 500 quilts on display, put on EVERY YEAR by a big Guild! We will be leaving the Ladner Bus Loop, Delta, BC at 8 am on Friday, March 16, and returning to the same location by 8 pm. The cost for the trip is $52. This is just for the transportation. If you would like to participate, or have any questions, please call Dawn Fielden at , or send her an at daante10@hotmail.com. If you would like more information about the quilt show, please go to Library Report New Books available at our December Guild Meeting We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2018! 7 Are you thinking about Your New Year s Resolutions? We are only days away from closing the door on Time to say good bye to another wonderful year, no regrets, just positive thoughts. Throw away all those negative thoughts and bring into 2018 happy, loving, positive thoughts. And enjoy each new beautiful day. Some Quilting Resolutions: 1. Take an inventory of your sewing room, what Fabric & Gadgets you have & love 2. Love your fabric, what you have and what you will buy 3. Don t worry about those UFO s, if you no longer enjoy the project, donate it to someone who will love to complete it 4. Exercise! Cut more fabric, press that foot down on the sewing peddle, go Quilt Shows, Shopping 5. Take a quilting class or 2 or 3 6. Finish those old UFOs you love 7. Share quilting ideas, maybe demo one of your favorite techniques at a Guild Meeting 8. Work on something that makes you happy. 9. Accept all sewing compliments, say thank you and do not point out mistakes. 10. Sew and quilt how you want, not how someone else does it. May 31, June 1 and 2, 2018 Vancouver, BC The Vancouver Convention Centre Website Link: Be sure to check out the new challenges! 1. QUILTED Postcard Challenge 1. 8 I know that a lot of our members make these microwave bowl holders. Fons and Porter has issued a safety warning. Polyester batting, fabric and thread can melt and catch fire in the microwave; spray baste is highly flammable in the microwave; and any metallic (fabric or thread) are also dangerous in the microwave. If you have used spray baste, make sure you wash the bowl holder thoroughly before using. Use only 100% cotton (or other natural fibre) fabric, thread and batting, and no spray baste, for anything that will be used in the microwave. utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=fp-csi-fb Page 8 of 10
