1 2016 Event/Late Summer/Fall Class Listing The Backstreet Quilt Shop NEW: All class fees must be paid when you sign up for the class and all Club and Block of the Month (BOM) programs will now require a Credit Card to be on file when fees are charged. Deposits are required for any Quilter s R&R at the time of sign- up. March 1, 2016 Events Tailgate Express Saturday, August 20, am to 6pm - $55.00 per person (price includes transportation, food, discounts and prizes) The bus is ready for boarding and our bus mom Yvonne is ready to travel with you on this wonderful day of fellowship, food and fun! This Saturday you will visit The Backstreet Quilt Shop, Bad Axe, Sisters in Quilting, Marlette, Fabric Affair, Troy, Mabelenas Comfort and Supplies, Ortonville and Elaine's in Hadley. Each of you will have the chance to win a Grand Prize of $250.00, a bus price of $ and other give aways at each store. A 20% discount will be offered with each purchase at each store. You will enjoy treats served to you as you travel and your lunch will be to your order from Panera Bread (there will also be one of their cookies in the lunch box!!) Thumb Shop Hop October 13-15, $10.00 passports, available after August 1st Our annual store shop hop with Sisters in Quilting, The Front Porch, The Stitching Well, Sew Crazy and The Backstreet Quilt Shop promises again to be a wonderful fall trip around the Thumb of Michigan. The final sewing is being done on our featured quilt and this year the theme is Lighthouses. It is truly beautiful and designed by each shop. The Lighthouses chosen represent our Thumb area and features the fabric from Northcott Old Glory Stonehenge collection. Plan to buy your passport soon. Fall Quilter s R & R Thursday, November 3 Sunday, November 6, 2016 OR Thursday, November 10- Sunday, November 13, $ per person Bay Shore Camp at Sebewaing, MI will be our new host for our Fall Quilter s R & R. We will enjoy their spacious Family Center for our sewing and fun and their newly opened Amby Lodge next door will provide our time of rest with private rooms and bath. Let us do the pampering, cooking and provide the atmosphere for rest, relaxation and uninterrupted sewing time what a great time to get the holiday projects done.price includes lodging, all meals and surprises. 2 Monthly/Weekly Sewing Times: Finish it Thursdays This has become one of the best days of the week for us here and the classroom at the Backstreet Quilt Shop is all yours every Thursday, all day and the staff is here to answer questions or to help solve a quilting problem the fellowship is special and lunch is served at noon. Bring you own lunch or $5.00 per person to cover lunch expense. Beverages and dessert are on the house. Store host: Staff PMS Night What IS This???? Pizza, Munchies and Sewing of Course!!! Every 1 st Friday night of the month starting anytime after 4pm to 10pm the classroom is open and hosted by one of the gals from the store bring your machine or hand project and join us. You will be amazed at what you can get done and what fun it is with other quilters. Cost: $5.00 per person. Note: No PMS night in July or September because of the holiday weekend. Store Host: Staff The Whimpy Challenge Saturday - We had so much fun that we have decided to try it again only with a different twist...mark your calendar for Saturday, September 17 th and take the Whimpy Challenge that the gals from The Backstreet Quilt Shop are presenting. Your only hint Fat Quarters we have a great project planned that uses Fat Quarters. $20.oo per person 9am to 6pm or you can stay until 9pm if you so choose.. Price includes all meals and treats for the day... Monthly Clubs Dear Jane Club NEW NEW the 1 st Tuesday of each month at 1pm If you are a fan of the well known and much loved masterpiece, Dear Jane quilt made by Jane Stickle during the Civil War and completed around 1863 then join us. The sampler quilt is comprised of 169 square 5 blocks, each one different and is surrounded by a uniquely pieced scalloped border. We will be using the book published by Brenda Manges Papadakis in 1996 called Dear Jane and the new computer software program by The Electric Quilt Company to help us accomplish our goal. We will begin at the beginning, learn the art of hand piecing and start with the beginner blocks and move on to the intermediate and advanced blocks as our skills develop. Club Due: $10.00 monthly plus book Club leader: Barbie Mission Sewing Club the 2 nd Friday of August and October am 3pm Doesn t it feel good to give to others? And quilter s seem to do it sew well!! We have donated pillowcases to many of our local health agencies and we would like to continue to be bring joy and a touch of sunshine to others but we need your help. We need sewers, cutters and pressers. We need you!! We will provide the free lunch and each time we meet we will have a project and a charity designated for our donation. 3 Block and Tackle Club NEW NEW the 4th Saturday of every month at 9:30am starting in May The club will meet monthly with the sole purpose of sharing our love for the craft of quilting. Demos, sharing, giveaways, food and fun! And to top off the year, we will be taking a great ROAD TRIP! So why the name Block and Tackle? Perhaps you are familiar with Missouri Star Quilt Company; everyone seems to be talking about it. The Block, the company s magazine is published six times a year. If you are like most of us, you have looked through an issue and admired the great patterns and thought, Wow I love that! Someday I m going to make that. Well, wait no longer! As part of the club, you will receive a year s subscription. With each new issue, The Block and Tackle Club hostess will share demos of techniques presented, and we will try out a project or two from the current issue. OK, you say, so where does the tackle come from? On the remaining months of the year the club hostess will help members tackle some of those troubling techniques and interesting new gadgets that make the world of quilting ever evolving. You will have a chance to ask questions and request demos on the techniques that you may be struggling with or are curious about. Club Dues: $20.00 per month Club leader: Yvonne and Tina BOM Block of the Month Programs Brown Sugar Sampler BOM 56 by 70 starting the 1 st Saturday in September Brown Sugar Sampler by Brandywine Designs is another one of our wool sampler quilts using the warm colors of blue, peach, mauve, burgundy and green. Each large applique block will finish at 12 square and use the blanket stitch making this project an easy and relaxing sewing time. Wools are from the Marcus Brothers collection by Quilted Crow Girls. The Backstreet Quilt Shop is redesigning the borders to match the applique blocks. Monthly price includes all wool. Monthly Price: $45.00 plus pattern Teacher: barbie Christmas Keepsakes BOM 36 by 36 starting Friday, August 26 th Shabby Fabrics and Marcus Fabrics are joining again with Rachel Thomas Pellman in a joyous holiday wall hanging that will grace the walls of your home for years to come. Simple machine applique and using the fusible method of applique makes this 4- month project very easy to finish before the holiday decorations go up. Margaret has made our classroom sample and will lead the class. Dates are Friday, August 26, Friday, September 23, Friday, October 21 and Monday, November 21. 4 Classes: Supply list are available when you sign up for a class or if you reserve your spot by phone you must stop and get the supply list. When coming to a class that involves your machine please bring it in good working order and bring all general quilting supplies, small rotary mat, cutter, pins, scissors, etc. All classes require you to purchase a pattern and if buying your supplies from the store you will receive double punches on your punch card at the time of purchase. If you are attending a full day class bring a sack lunch or enjoy one our area restaurants and beverages will be provided. Mommy & Me Slippers A great gift idea for the gals on your Christmas shopping list. The pattern from Cool Cat Creations includes full size instructions for Child Sizes 5-13, Youth Sizes 1-4 and Women s Sizes Yvonne will lead this class on Monday, August 8 at 10am or Monday September 26 th at 10am. Class fee is $15.00 Nativity Ornaments Make these ornaments to help share the Christmas story with you children. Using the traditional log cabin pattern Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Angel are all soft and cuddly enough for even tiny children to hold. Barbie and Grace will lead this class on Tuesday, August 9 th at 1pm or 6pm and again on Tuesday, September 13 th at 1pm or 6pm. Class fee $15.00 Stacky Pop-Ups What a great gift for the crafter on your shopping list this holiday season...the Stacking Pop-Ups come in 4 sizes and can be used in many different ways, such as thread catchers, fabric trash, yarn basket or even small toys at Grandma's house. Monday, August 15 th at 1pm Class fee $15.00 A Frosty Night with Yvonne Let this delightful snowman welcome guests and family to your home during the winter months and brighten the frosty nights. Yvonne will lead you through machine applique and show you how easy it is to do the detail embroidery work on your machine too! Class will meet Wednesday, August 17 th and Wednesday, August 24 th from 9:30 am to 3pm both weeks. Class fee is $25.00 Little Logs Starburst - Cut Loose Press and Creative Grids have designed a charming table topper with the traditional log cabin block helping to make this miniature block perfect every time. Lin also will share her technique to an amazing miniature pop border on the final edge. Class is Thursday, August 18 th at 1pm. Class fee is $15.00 Tuffets This is an idea that will be on the top of my Christmas giving list this year. Tuffets 20 round will enhance any living area. When you go home after class take your completed tuffet with you. Class is Monday, August 22 nd at 9:30am and will be a full day. Class fee is $15.00 and the hardware (18 precut round board and 4 wooden legs) is available when you sign up for class for an additional price of $30.00

5 Table Toppers with Miss Lin You have asked for this class and Lin has said yes Lin has chosen 4 table accent projects for you to enjoy and learn a variety of techniques using Creative Grids rulers and patterns. Class will meet on Thursday, April 14 th, Thursday, June 9 th, Thursday, August 11 th and Thursday, October 6 th at 9:30 am 4pm. Each month the class fee is $15.00 plus pattern and supplies. Beginning Quilt Making 101 Barbie will teach the basic quilt skills that every quilter needs to know. Rotary cutting, pinning, pressing and how to apply borders. Each week the conversation will answer questions, provide encouragement and help you gain confidence in making your first quilt. Tuesday evening October 4,11,18 & 25 Class Fee: $40.00 plus pattern and supplies. Fold'n Stitch Wreath - Need a pretty seasonal wreath, or an unusual table topper? Whip up this dimensional design in an afternoon. Finished size is 21 diameter. Class is Monday, August 29 th at 1pm Class fee is $15.00 Bright and Bold Wool Appliqué Learn the basics of wool applique and find out how much fun it can be. Beckie has chosen Farmer's Market as the project. This nine=block wool applique wool wall hanging incorporates a variety of fun, simple shapes. Farmer's Market is a beginners project and the block size is easy to manipulate when hand stitching. Join us and let us introduce you to one of our favorite passions. Class is Friday, September 9 th at 10am or Monday, September 12 th at 6pm. Class fee is $15.00 Reversible Strippy Table Runner A pre-cut strip friendly project using (40) 2 ½ strips makes the front and the back. Add the binding of your choice and the table runner measures 16 by 64 when done. Beckie will lead this class time on Monday, September 19 th at 6pm. Class fee is $15.00 Geese West This technique class will show you how to make accurate flying geese (4 at a time) every time. This ruler by Eleanor Burns has become barbie's favorite. The pattern by Cindi McCracken Designs called Geese in the West is on barbie's to do list...class is Tuesday, August 30 at 1pm and Tuesday September 20 th at 6pm. Class fee is $10.00
