3 Meeting Monday December 3 President Ian had great pleasure in welcoming our guest speaker Andrew Baillie. Announcements Monday December 10 is our Christmas meeting. Please remember to bring donations for the Salvation Army to collect on the night, for them to distribute to needy families. Please see the list of suggestions later in the Bulletin. All members and partners are invited to attend our CHRISTMAS DINNER MEETING on Monday, December 10 th at 6.00 for 6.30pm Ian thanked Mal for keeping in contact with Aaron Corlett from the Community Newspapers and Gail for writing up the story and sending an accompanying photograph to Aaron. We have been fortunate to have a number of articles printed in the Melville Times. District Conference March in Collie Early Bird Full Registration (Closes ). Includes all conference sessions, Friday and Saturday evenings. Please ensure you let Greg know if you are not attending a meeting before 10.00am on the morning of the meeting, (even earlier if possible). The Club has to pay for all meals ordered so Greg needs to know the correct number to order. The Club is losing money paying for meals when the members don t come and have not let Greg know. 4 Guest Speaker Ian and Selwyn Andrew Baillie ~ The New Electric Era in Motoring Sub Hub Editor WA News Betty Bright, Andrew Baillie and Mal Bennett Andrew Baillie was born in Paisley, Scotland, in 1972 and grew up in Newton Mearns, on the south side of Glasgow, before heading to Edinburgh University to study politics. In Scotland, he worked for the Daily Star, Edinburgh Evening News, News of the World, Scotland on Sunday, the Sunday Times and the Sun before accepting a job offer from The West in 2010 and heading to Perth with his wife and two young daughters. He s not regretted the move for one minute, even if he does still struggle to understand AFL and the driving habits of some Perth motorists.

5 Andrew Baillie is head of the Sub Hub at West Australian Newspapers, the department that designs and edits The West Australian, The Sunday Times and countless regional papers. In his spare time, he writes car reviews for the West WHEELS motoring lift out, which appears in the West on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The reviews are very down to earth and the easy language relates to possible users of the cars being reviewed. Andrew talks about all aspects of the car from comfort, practicality, design good and bad, performance and relates his findings to the possible buyers. His wife and two daughters often enjoy the opportunity to test ride in the cars he is reviewing and contribute interesting and thoughtful comments. Andrew spoke about the electric cars on the market and the various distance they can travel before they need to recharge the batteries. The cars vary in the time it takes to recharge. Drivers of electric cars travelling long distances outside the metropolitan area need to plan their journey taking into account when and where they can recharge the batteries Sausage Sizzle this Sunday December 9 Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help. Apologies were called for and Bruce put in an apology for Fred Soale. The minutes of the last AGM were presented and passed by Carole and Colin. The last Financial Report was presented and passed by John and Greg. Jeff then moved on to the election of Office Holders. He had received written nominations for all positions except for President Nominee, so we would like members to seriously consider taking on this role for the ongoing future of our club. The President Nominee would become President for the year 2021 to 2022.

6 If you would like to nominate for President Nominee you must nominate for election by sending written notice of the nomination to the secretary. The written notice must include a statement by another member in support of the nomination. 7 Invitation to MP Ben Morton s Christmas Catch Up We are very pleased to invite the Attadale Rotary members to Ben s Christmas Catch Up! This will be the 3 rd time we ve done this and we feel like we ve got it down to a fine art. Think wood fire pizza, entertainment, heaps of food and drinks of all varieties. It s a really great evening and everyone has a great time Hopefully you can come along! 8 DONATIONS FOR THOSE IN NEED AT CHRISTMAS Each year we ask members to donate non-perishable food or toys for those who are doing it tough at Christmas. Bring your donations to the Christmas Dinner Meeting and they will be collected by The Salvos and distributed to those in real need. Have a look at the suggestions below and remember that Ian advised that we should not wrap the toys as it makes it easier for the salvos to allocate them appropriately.

The set up and pack up Rotarians shall: Arrive at least 30 mins before the meeting starting time Retrieve the small Australian flags, the Sergeant's gavel and gong, collection box, international pig, President's dais, two bottles of wine and a gift coaster for the Guest Speaker The small flags shall be spread around the tables. The Sergeant's and President's items are to be placed on the President's table The microphones provided by Tompkins on Swan shall be turned on and tested At the completion of the meeting, all items shall be returned to the storeroom cupboard The hosts shall: Arrive at least 30 minutes before meeting starting time Retrieve the wooden badge holder cabinet from the storeroom and place it within greeting area Greet all Rotarians with a handshake and give them their badge. Greet guests and welcome them and introduce them to at least two Rotarians Greet the guest speaker if the Chairperson is unavailable After the meeting, retrieve all name badges, place them in the wooden cabinet and return to storeroom The chairperson shall: Read the Bulletin in advance and then contact Program Director for CV of speaker Arrive at Dinner Meeting venue at least 35 mins before starting time Greet and welcome the GS at the entrance and introduce them to the President and at least four Rotarians Assist the GS to setup his/her audio/visual and any other aids Show GS where to sit down for dinner on President's table and where to speak Invite the GS to stay for tea or coffee afterwards and ask them if they are happy to answer questions then Advise GS to speak for minutes (or as agreed with Programme Director) including questions Introduce the GS by name and topic when requested by the Sergeant or President Formally introduce the GS by written CV addressing name, vocation, qualifications, family (if appropriate), interests and lastly topic. This should take from one to two minutes only. Chair the speaker session allowing one question per Rotarian or Guest Terminate the session with the presentation of the gift coaster (from Secretary) Escort the GS to the door after the meeting (and to their vehicle if appropriate)
