2 Words of Wisdom from our Leader

3 What a year it has been. Several testing sessions, our club's 50th anniversary, an auction, several antenna parties, Field Day, the Tiger-Tri, Spokane Hamfest, the PARC picnic, the Lions' Club Bicycle race, hospital drills, the Hoot Owl Patrol, and contests by individuals as well as group (party!) efforts. We've shared knowledge and provided group analysis on technical -- and not so technical -- points. We've pooled our brains and muscles to raise towers and antennas. We've shared some great stories on the Sunday night net -- favorite memories, interesting jobs, gardening tips, and what circus act would you like to be? We've got some young members we are very proud of for their accomplishments both within and in addition to amateur radio. We've even taken turns wearing El Sombrero Gigante when our Eating Before the Meeting coincides with a birthday. Amateur radio brings together some diverse individuals. I know Bert and I credit this hobby with helping make some amazing friendships while serving our community. It's been a great year; we learned a lot, helped our community, and had fun doing it. Below are just a few pictures from this year. What great memories! The new year is just around the corner...time to think about 2011 and what it can hold for ourselves and our community. 73, Dave - WD7K Christmas party December 17, the ambulance training center 6:00PM This is also the Birthday of Patti Howe she is a daughter to, two of Hams in the club. Please wish her a great day. She will be eleven Cynthia's notes Since our next meeting on Dec. 17 is the Christmas Party, I won t spoil the fun by reading the Minutes. Here is my attempt to provide you with as much detail as possible of last month s meeting. HRO Raffle for a $150 gift certificate will be held Dec. 17. It s not too late to buy tickets. See Randy. See for info about the Christmas Party. WA State ARES Net is on 3985 Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. and Mondays at 5:30 p.m. You are invited to check in.

4 What is the purpose of the Sunday night net? It gives operators an opportunity to practice their radio skills; It is an official form of communication for the club; It is a good way to test your radio equipment; It is a benefit beyond what we can see, commented Bruce. Participation of all amateur radio operators is welcomed. Volunteers are needed to be Net Control. Contact Maria KE7DSK. Elections for all Officers and one Board member will be held at the Dec. meeting. All persons now serving are eligible for re-election. Nominations are now open. Also, nominations for Ham of the Year will be accepted at the next meeting. Jerry WB7NUE sent PARC a letter of thanks for winning the Kenwood TS480 transceiver at the Spokane Hamfest. We are thrilled too! A Hellicraft SX-28 HF Transceiver is for sale. Contact Randy N7CKJ. Dave thanked everyone who participated in the Hoot Owl. It was a Hoot. Café Press: Custom cups requested by club members are available for purchase on line. Mark Tharp, Section Manager, attended the meeting and brought door prizes. Thank you Mark! See you all at the party,,cynthia, KE7ZDJ RADIOSPORT FOR THE PANORAMALAND DX HUNTERS 12/10 T he Radiosport season is in full swing. Band conditions have been much better now then they have been for the past years. Cycle 24 is well under way. You will not have any trouble working your 100 DX entities for the DXCC award. A wire antenna and a box on the table will work just fine. If you are going to do anything with your amateur license you need to get up an antenna next spring so you can reap the benefits of sun spots from cycle 24. Remember it will be 11 years before they are back. The DX Cluster (VE7CC Free Ware) is loaded with hundreds of DX stations just waiting to contact you. There are also many Dxpeditions to rare DX entities each month. There are two going on right now. The republic of the Congo 9Q50ON. His QSL Manager is ON4BR. Also Lesotho 7P8RU. His QSL Manager is RV9WJ. The web site to keep tract of what DX entities are on the air is Announced DX Operations. If you need help sending QSL cards please let me know. We did well in the ARRL Sweepstakes. It is a 30 hour contest. There are 80 ARRL and CARL sections to work for a clean sweep. Our operators were Mark KB7HDX our section manager, Mark K7HPT from the SDXA, Lynn N2HS from PARC and myself. We had our Clean Sweep

5 by 12:30 Sunday. This year the North West Territories (VE8) and Puerto Rico (KP4) were easy targets. The tough one was South Carolina (W4). They just were not on the air. We were watching the VE7CC cluster on Mark's lap top for the stations we needed to finish our clean sweep. About noon up came a SC station. We set the FT-2000D to his frequency and what a pile up. The whole country was calling him. We lucked out it took us 2 calls. We ended up with 841 Q's. Four Clean Sweep Mugs have been ordered from the ARRL. The ARRL 160M CW Radiosport was held Dec 3 rd thru Dec 5 th a 42 hour contest. I ran it as Single Operator. I made 211 Q's including 64 sections plus 2 DX. They send 25 to 30 words a minute. My code speed is about 15 words a minute. I use CWget to copy the code and Writelog to send my report. I also use the same system to work the rare DX stations. You should give it a try. The Radiosport PSK Death Match Digital Duel was held Dec 11 th & 12 th. It was a 48 hour contest. If you run low power and have a wire antenna this was the one for you. The ARRL RTTY Round Up will be held Jan 8 th & 9 th. This contest is all done with 6 of the F keys on your computer key board. We will be working stations all over the world. Last year we worked 584 stations. If you would like to give it a try let me know. Gimmie AL7LB, Lynn N2HS and myself attended the SDXA Christmas party. The food was very good. Many awards were passed out. I won a gavel from the ARRL for the highest Sweepstakes score. I donated it to the club for the president to bring the meetings to order. Log Book Of The World (LOTW) 312, 815, 407 QSO records are in (LOTW) 37, 131 amateurs are registered in the system. ARE YOU ONE?? 73 Wilse WX7P wx7p@arrl.net SKYPE = WX7PDX This is Mark K7HPT working hard for a clean sweep during the ARRL Sweepstakes.. A Ham's Night Before Christmas
